iFixit and TechRepublic have teamed up to give us a peek at the innards of Dell’s new thin and light ultraportable Adamo. They wanted to see how it stacked up against Apple’s MacBook Air, so they compared build quality and specifics.

What did they find? Well, the Adamo features a 11.1 volt 40 Watt hour battery, compared to the Air’s 7.2 volt 37 Watt hour battery, and accounts for a greater percentage of the weight of the computer than the Air. The Adamo looks like it features a lot more technology in an only slightly heavier package.

We have some disappointing news about the Dell Adamo. Turns out that the Adamo’s battery is not able to be replaced by the user. Just like another laptop you may know and love. The hell you say?

Well, it is replaceable, it just has to be sent into Dell for the procedure, thereby inconveniencing you and making them some more money.(We assume.) We don’t know how much the company is going to charge for that.

After a few months of waiting, the Adamo has finally been announced. Dell has officially announced the first machine in the Adamo line, the 13.4-inch model from CES.

It features a 1.2GHz Core 2 Duo U9300 with integrated Intel X4500 graphics, 2GB of RAM, and a 128GB SSD, and it weighs only four pounds, which is a pound more than the MacBook Air. It will cost you $1,999. Seems like most of that money goes toward stuff like a magnetic cover.

Not long ago Dell’s Adamo got official at CES today. The laptop was presented oh so briefly in all it’s anorexic glory and then it left the stage without any specs or even a price. So we still don’t know much. Just that it’s seriously thin and represents the new luxury design franchise in Dell’s laptop lineup. We’ll let you know more when we know more.

The MacBook Air was introduced this year and despite all of the limitations imposed on the machine by its thin profile, many a Mac fan and Windows user alike were impressed. The image of the thin little machine in an envelope is one that has now been copied by many notebook manufacturers.

We talked a bit about Dell’s Adamo teaser page before. It was widely reported that it had been confirmed by Dell that Adamo would be a MacBook Air competitor after a post on one of The New York Times’ blogs.

Have a look at this teaser site and while you’re at it, this site. Looks like Dell has a laptop coming that could be both lighter and thinner than the MacBook Air. A Dell that is sleek? Is that possible? Apparently.

Tatelman, Dell’s VP of consumer sales and marketing seems to have given it away, when asked about whether or not Dell had an Air-like product in store. Tatelman’s reaction? His “mouth gaped open and his eyes darted away from my face”. Tatelman then said:
“I think we need to get some iconic products out there, so people associate Dell’s brand with other things.” That would be goodbye to clunky, and hello to sleek.
