Best Buy to host 3DS midnight launches

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on March 21st, 2011

Gamer anticipation is reaching critical mass as it is now less than one week until the Nintendo 3DS launches. Sure the line-up of launch games leaves us a little cold, but more games will come in due time and at least we will get to hold the 3DS in our hands.

Those who live in New York have another reason to be excited about the 3DS launch. Nintendo is throwing a midnight launch event. It starts at 9:00 PM EDT at the Best Buy in Union Square. There will be plenty of hands-on 3DS demos, food, music, and giveaways. Probably a bunch of people in costume too. Sounds like a good time. Additional Best Buy locations will also be selling the device at midnight, but maybe with not so much fanfare.

2012 Passat VW Super Bowl XLV spot uses the force

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on February 3rd, 2011

Volkswagen of America will run two ads during the Super Bowl XLV on February 6, one for the 2012 New Beetle and one for the 2012 Passat. Forget the first ad, it’s the ad for the 2012 Passat that caught our attention.

It shows a young boy in a Darth Vader costume trying desperately to actually use Darth Vader’s force powers around the house, to no avail. It is only when he stands in front of the new Passat and commands it to start that it works. The kid’s father has started up the car with a remote starter in the key-fob. It’s a cute and geeky ad. We love it.

TRON Cat costume

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on December 30th, 2010

It may not be Halloween, but why should that stop you from dressing up your cat in a TRON costume? It shouldn’t. If you have a dream, live it. Who cares if your cat never talks to you again. Some huge TRON fan is living the dream and has dressed their cat up in a light-up costume and posted a picture of it online.

The cat seems to like it since it can’t stop checking itself out in the mirror. Maybe the mirror is a gateway into the grid.

If you are looking to trick or treat as Samus from the Metroid game this year, you might want to pay attention to what this father and on team have created. 11-year old Joseph DeRose and his father have built Samus’ arm cannon. That’s the entire costume at the moment, but it’s an impressive arm cannon.

It features an array of LED lights with several settings, which is controlled by an Arduino. There’s also several sound effects from the Metroid games.

7 foot tall Halo Elite costume is scary

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on June 30th, 2010

The Halo aliens look scary on screen. I mean these are some bad-ass aliens, huge aliens, in armor. With guns. Everytime I play, I thank god I’ve never seen the real thing. Now I have. And I have wet myself.

This costume is so realistic, it’s scary. The animatronic Halo Elite costume was created by effects artist Pete Mander and could easily be used in a movie. It’s over seven feet tall and took countless hours to build. The man is a genius.

2020 Harley-Davidson concept is Batman approved

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2010

This concept design for a futuristic Harley-Davidson motorcycle looks a lot like Batman’s Batcycle from The Dark Knight. And that is an awesome thing. Might as well wear the entire costume and cruise around Gotham looking for crazies.

The design itself is low on details, but we don’t even care. Ten years from now I want to be riding this thing. That’s all there is to it. By then I might even be able to afford it in my Batcave.

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2009

SexBox 3600 adult consoleI know some of you guys don’t get out much and so your XBox 360 has become your girlfriend. This is like that, except more official-like. Silicon Xtal has filed a patent for an adult-oriented game console called SexBox. It plays interactive Adult Only rated video game software titles, and has proprietary software and firmware for access to associated AO content and other adult entertainment.

It comes with no controllers. Instead, for about $33 you get a schoolgirl costume and some lotion. And something they simply call a “roter”. I wonder if it will be a hit.

Well, if you’re going to nerd out, you may as well do it with officially licensed Wii accessories.

We’ve seen our share of Wii lightsabers, but they just aren’t endorsed by Lucas’ money machine. This one is. This lightsaber glows, and Bensussen Deutsch & Associates have plans for a matching blaster too. The accessories don’t make room for MotionPlus, but so what. They’ll be shipping with Star Wars – The Clone Wars: Republic Heroes, a game that doesn’t support MotionPlus.
