Posted in Computers by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2011

I remember typing away on the Commodore 64 all those years ago. If you have fond memories as well, Commodore USA has a new Commodore 64 prototype. The basic version is $595 with an 1.8GHz dual-core Intel Atom D525 chip, NVIDIA ION 2 graphics, 2GB of RAM and a 160GB hard drive.

Delivery is scheduled for “early June” and you can add features like an additional 2GB of memory, a Blu-Ray drive, up to 1TB of storage, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and Bluetooth. Who would have thought that we would be using a C64 in 2011?

The folks over at Commodore USA are ready to bring the old school and slam it down on your desktop. The company has announced a new line-up of computers that resemble the original Commodore computers from back in the day.

The best one has to be the one shown above, which is apparently a completely new design, inspired by the original Commodore. Inside this Commodore P64 you’ll find an 2.66 GHz Intel Core I7 processor, NVIDIA GeForce GT 330M with 512 MB, 2 TB hard drive, 4GB DDR3 SDRAM, and a BLU RAY drive.

Commodore Invictus Keyboard

Posted in Keyboards by Conner Flynn on May 31st, 2010

The Commodore Invictus keyboard from Cybernet is a new Asus EEE PC Keyboard alternative. The company recently licensed the Commodore name and it has some nice specs to go along with it. It packs an Atom processor along with a touchscreen display, wireless HDMI, chicklet-style keys, the nVidia ION chipset and a 5-hour battery life.

Now that you are drooling, we sadly have no word on pricing or availability yet for the Commodore Invictus. Hopefully we will get more details soon so we can order one.

Commodore name licensed for a line of keyboard PCs

We remember the good old days of computing. The old Commodore of the 1980s brings back some good if graphically challenged memories. Barry Altman, President and CEO of Commodore USA, now has the rights to the Commodore name. And now, if we are lucky we can have a keyboard computer with the Commodore logo slapped on it.

Apparently it’s based on the Cybernet ZPC-GX31, the exact configurations and pricing are not available yet, but hopefully soon.

The folks over at Retro Thing, well, they love retro things as much as we do, so they’ve released their own version of the classic Atari 2600 joystick. This version is made from clear plastic and when you plug it in it lights up with a blue LED glow.

The Clear Classic USB Joystick package includes the Stella Atari 2600 emulator and over 80 games. Classics like Pacman 4K, Seawolf, Atari 2600 Soccer, Ladybug, and Invaders Plus. The joystick is compatible with almost any emulator that runs Atari, Amiga and Commodore software and even supports MAME and modern games that use a standard USB joystick.

Apple approves Commodore 64 emulator for iPhone

Apple rejects Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhoneWell, it took awhile, but Apple has finally approved the C64 emulator for the iPhone. It’s the first officially-available emulator and the first app that runs code. That code is old, but still. It was the code that was the problem, due to a clause in the iPhone 2.0 SDK that prevented apps from containing their own executable codes.

But iPhone 3.0 contains a new feature for in-app purchases that the C64 emulator will take advantage of to let users purchase additional games. You can get the app now with five games for only $4.99.

Commodore 64 cake

Posted in Computer Cases by Conner Flynn on August 12th, 2009

Commodore 64 cake It’s been a while since we’ve seen an awesome geek cake as retro-liscous as this one. A genuine Commodore 64 Cake. It was made in honor of some guy’s 30th birthday.

It has some super nice detail work on the frosting, like all of that keyboard lettering. Even a power cord. Though I don’t remember Pong being available for the C64. It sure looks tasty. This guys wife, who made the cake, is a real special woman and if things don’t work out for them she can make me a cake anyday.

Apple rejects Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhoneCheck this out. A fully-functional, licensed Commodore 64 emulator for the iPhone. Pretty sweet. But sadly, Apple rejected the app “based on the SDK clause specifically prohibiting interpreted or executable code.” Lame.

The app would have played classic games and even run Commodore 64 BASIC. The full list of features are as follows: Full speed, Commodore 64 emulator, SID sound emulation, Auto-save, to continue exactly where you left off, Realistic joystick and beautifully crafted C64 keyboard, Portrait and Landscape play, Vertical and Fullscreen gaming (auto rotate for iPod users).

Commodore’s MLB-themed gaming rigs

Posted in Commodore by Conner Flynn on November 26th, 2008

Commodore’s MLB-themed gaming rigsMLB fans will love these MLB-themed gaming PCs from Commodore. Whether they will hit a home run with them is hard to say, but Baseball fans now have their own fancy machines. The officially licensed desktops feature an exclusive C-kin high-definition paint job and a Core i7 inside.

Don’t expect them to be cheap. The paint job process alone is much like the one on your car. Not some vinyl sticker. It’s baked on. The MLB range of Commodore Gaming computers is being launched now with a choice from four teams, New York Yankees, Philadelphia Phillies, Boston Red Sox and New York Mets. Additional teams will be added in the coming weeks.

Keyboard with built-in PC

Keyboard with built-in PC
Desk top space is a precious thing. We save it wherever we can, but it just seems to get reclaimed by something else. This should help. The ZPC-GX31 will save you desktop space by putting an Intel Core Duo PC with a CDRW/DVD drive and a card reader inside a “normal size keyboard”.

Some features are Dual Display capabilities, 4MB of DDR2/667MHz RAM, 1Gb LAN and DVI interface. They claim that this is a complete personal computer that takes up no more space than a typical keyboard. Just put it on your desktop, plug in a monitor and you are done. You can customize the ZPC-GX31 All-in-One PC to fit whatever your needs may be, which makes the price range anywhere from $629 to $1099. While it does admittedly look like an old Commodore 64 I still have to ask myself, is this the future as far as home PC’s are concerned?
