Nintendo Wii and DS set US sales records

Posted in Nintendo by Shane McGlaun on December 12th, 2008

Nintendo WarehouseMy son is one of the proudest kids in the neighborhood when it comes to video games since we have a Wii, PS3, and an Xbox (all for work naturally). The thing most of the kids want to play is the Wii and many of his friends are asking Santa for a Wii this Christmas.

The catch is that the Wii is still notoriously hard to find, despite the fact that Nintendo is making more of the consoles this holiday season than it did last year. Nintendo has announced that it has set US sales records with its Wii and DS game systems.

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of December

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on December 8th, 2008

iPhone hitting Walmart by the end of DecemberRumors that Walmart would begin selling the iPhone soon have been around for a few days and we now have an answer thanks to Bloomberg. Yes, you’ll be able to get an iPhone at Walmart, and probably by Christmas. Store representatives at several locations confirmed that employees are being trained to sell the handset, which will hit shelves by the end of the month. This makes Walmart the second retail chain to sell the iPhone, and also the largest.

Any truth to the whole $99 4GB model deal? That isn’t confirmed, and is looking unlikely. The $99 iPhone will probably happen eventually according to some, but others claim that a Bentonville, Arkansas location will sell the 4GB model as well as the 8GB and 16GB versions, which have been confirmed at their normal $199 and $299 prices.

Apple iPod shortage for Christmas?

Posted in iPod by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2008

Apple iPod shortage for Christmas? We’re used to shortages during the holiday season. The Wii comes to mind. And you are probably aware of Amazon’s kindle situation. The iPod may be next. Word is that Apple is having trouble keeping up with the demand for the iPod as more and more customers place purchases during this holiday season, they may run out. The information comes from a research note from Kaufman Bros. analyst Shaw Wu. The Amazon.com stock levels seem to confirm the notion as well, since it currently takes up to 5 weeks to get your 8GB second-gen iPod touch. It’ll take 3-5 weeks for the 16GB version.

It looks like the shortages may be model specific and color specific, as some are more popular. Wu concluded that Apple may very well sell 21 million iPods in the holiday quarter.

Guinness Bottle Opener Cap makes getting drunk easyIt’s beginning to look a lot like a redneck Christmas…I mean how much do you have to drink during a typical day, to say to yourself, “I need that there hat!”. If you see nothing odd about this bottle opener hat, then chances are pretty good that you attend Nascar races while simultaneously courting your sister. In case it’s not obvious, the Guinness Bottle Opener Baseball Cap has a metal hook on the brim to tear off caps, and it’s officially licensed by the beer company and all.

The cap sells for $25, which isn’t too bad if you absolutely must have it. But you’re probably thinking that your teeth have done the job thus far, and they can probably open another couple hundred beers. Cuz that $25 should really go toward brew.

Tokyoflash launches the NiTokyoflash, those wild and crazy watch makers just never take a breather. Which is great for us, because if it wasn’t for Tokyoflash, watches would be boring. They’re back, having never left, with their latest wristwatch known as the Ni.

This design is at once stylish and minimal. The Ni is made entirely from stainless steel and features a polished finish, with horizontal grooves on the face and strap that give it a great look. The time progresses in one direction. Touch the upper button for an animation before the time is displayed. Each LED on the bottom line indicates two hours, the line above indicates a single hour, a combination presenting the current hour. Groups of 10 minutes are presented on the center row and single minutes on the upper two lines.

Amazon Kindle sold out: Three month delay

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on November 28th, 2008

Amazon Kindle sold out: Three month delayAmazon is having some trouble. Maybe they didn’t count on Oprah selling so many units. Maybe they just are really bad at stock management. Whatever the case, shipping on the Kindle ebook reader is currently listed as 11 to 13 weeks time, completely overshooting Christmas and making deliveries at some point in Q1 2009. This will be the second year in a row that the retailer could not meet demand. Last year, with the device being new, Amazon could at least use the excuse that they were ramping up production.

It was back in October that Oprah Winfrey endorsed the Kindle. Amazon is also rumored to be preparing the Kindle’s replacement, which was once expected to be on the market this holiday season, but now it is expected to be delayed until Q1 2009.

Micro-trains run on time in this pocket-watchTwo tiny trains circle around this clock perched atop a mountain. This watch could easily cross the line into cheesiness, yet somehow it’s more cool then cheesy. The watch is made by Mr. Christmas, a company that actually has some cool Christmas gadgets.

The small trains move around the clock when you wind up the stem. Even plays the song “I’ve Been Working on the Railroad.” Okay, that part is cheesy. For $19.47, what the heck. Get into the Christmas spirit you grumps. These are two mini trains on a watch for god’s sake. That fit in your pocket.
