US detonated massive hydrogen bomb over pacific in 1962

Posted in Science by Shane McGlaun on July 5th, 2010

All most of us know about nuclear explosions today comes from the 60′s and movies. Back during the cold war, kids in school had bomb drills, which were weird considering the radiation could make it under your desk.

A new photo and story has surfaced that occurred back in 1962. The US strapped a hydrogen bomb to a rocket and fired it 250 miles above the Pacific Ocean. The bomb used was 1000 times more powerful than the one that leveled Hiroshima.

Lowest temp Olympic torch ever is made by jetmaker Bombardier

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on February 21st, 2010

Yes, the Olympic torch is cool, as in it looks pretty neat. But it’s also cool in regards to temperature as well. The torch of the 2010 Winter Games has been carried all over Greece and Canada since October 30, 2009 and gets to be the coolest one ever used thanks to a fuel mixture of propane and isobutane.

It was designed by design director Leo Obstbaum and built by jetmaker and high-speed train manufacturer Bombardier. In all there were 12,000 torches hand-assembled in Montréal, one for each carrier. It looks classy and futuristic, not just some stick that’s on fire.

Bomb USB Flash Drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on July 27th, 2009

Bomb USB Flash DriveThis USB drive concept is a throwback to the days of mustache twirling villains and bombs with crazy long fuses that usually blew up in your hands. It’s from designer Joel Escalona who probably likes to tie helpless women to railroad tracks while laughing maniacally.

Someone manufacture this thing already, so Joel doesn’t end up wearing black and white stripes and working on the chain gang. Sure it looks deadly(In a comical way) in black, but in red, yellow and white it just looks silly. Still, Joel thinks it’s “da bomb”, so what do ya say?

Axxana Phoenix: Bomb proof data protection

Posted in Security by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2009

Axxana Phoenix: Bomb proof data protectionThe Axxana Phoenix is a solid state flash memory disk array that backs up and stores your important data with no need of remote transfer. It claims to be the toughest data recorder in the world. It can withstand earthquake grade shocks of up to 40G and 5000 pounds of pressure.

It can stand up to extreme temperatures as well. It can survive 2000 degrees F for one hour followed by 450 F for another 6 hours. How about the ability to withstand 30 feet of water pressure and a piercing from a 500 pound rod dropped from 10 feet. Now that’s tough.

DIY Grenade MP3 player is the bomb

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on January 20th, 2009

DIY Grenade MP3 player is the bombObviously you shouldn’t try this at home. It’s not a real smart idea to start modding live grenades. This one was an inert hand grenade, therefore the creator still walks among us. Ingredients? 1 inert grenade, a 1GB Sansa MP3 player and a hacksaw. That’s all you need.

If this sort of lethal DIY project interests you, you can try your hand at making one. Just don’t lose your hand…er…arm. Torso. It looks like a fairly simple build and a basic description can be found in the link below if you want to have a look. This is one of those Field of Dreams deals. You know, “If you build it, they will come”. They, being the FBI, local police, Homeland Security etc.

Stealth Bomber Cycle: Flying on two wheels

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on January 15th, 2009

Stealth Bomber Cycle: Flying on two wheelsThis year marks the 20th anniversary of the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber. What better way to commemorate the anniversary than with a cycle by the crew at Orange County Choppers. As usual they took the basic look of the plane and made a cycle version. The bike even has some of the original titanium from the original B-2 aft deck and each wheel features scale models of B-2s in star formations.

It’s pretty awesome, for sure. But is it just me, or does it kinda look like a Dolphin? It almost looks toy-like. Very plastic looking. At any rate, it’s nice to know that our military has their priorities straight when it comes to spending our tax money. Hopefully this bike has some hidden firepower.

London to deploy bomb-proof garbage bins

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on November 2nd, 2008

London to deploy bomb-proof garbage binsAccording to the TimesOnline the lack of High-tech garbage cans in UK cities have pedestrians complianing. But not for long. Next year hundreds of bomb-resistant bins with “blast intelligent technology” and LCD screens displaying the news will be placed throughout London’s financial district.

Many bins had to be removed during the 1980s at the height of the IRA bombings as bombs were regularly left in them. So, London has been without places to put their garbage for nearly 30 years? I thought that’s what the BBC was for? I kid. I kid. Though putting the news on garbage bins has a certain irony to it.

Wrist grenade watch is the bomb!

Wrist grenade watch is the bomb!
It takes a special kind of nerd guy to strap a hand grenade to their wrist. First off it’s bound to be heavy thanks to it’s stainless steel case contruction. Plus it’s bound to get you all kinds of weird looks as you flip it open to see the time.

Chuck Norris may be the only person in the world that this looks appropriate on. It’s even water-resistant up to 3ATM, which comes in handy when you are pretending to be a Navy Seal. Comes in Army Green or Matte Black finishes with either a skinny canvas or wide leather and canvas wristband. They start around $125 each.

USB Memory Bomb is the bomb

USB Memory Bomb
Forget the fact that bombs do not look like this these days. They used to. In fact, every cartoon villain has hurled his share of these babies at an enemy at one time or another.

Unfortunately, hard as it is to believe, this hasn’t been made yet. It’s just a concept. So if you are an old school villain you’re going to have to wait to get your hands on one. If they stamped it ACME or TNT on the side it would be complete for all your needs.

Time Bomb alarm clock

Posted in Clocks by Chetz on October 26th, 2007

Bomba Alarm Clock How’s this for a bedside alarm clock? The Bomba Alarm Clock is a timepiece that is meant to give one the impression that something is about to go boom, and in that regards we think that it succeeds. Designed by Wil van den Bos the clock measures 4″ x 8″ x 5″ and has a network of moving gears that will keep your eyes fixated on it. At nighttime the clock gives off a blue illumination that can be dimmed, intensified or switched off if you don’t want to keep yourself weirded out all night long. Put a couple of radiological symbols on it and voila, it looks like one of those atomic bombs from the movies…minus the big numbers of course. Price: $70.

Bomba Alarm ClockA uniquely exposed design was given to the Bomba alarm clock by Dutch designer Will Vanden Vos, showing off all the gears and inner workings that run, like clockwork I guess. The design features the retro-style flip cards to change the displayed numbers like many very early electric alarm clocks used to have. Some light blue LED lights on each side make the numbers readable at night and a simple dial on the side lets you set the approximate time you would like the alarm to sound.

The old-school use of the flip card numbers and …
