Batman 4GB Bat Stick Flash Drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2011

We love Batman gadgets around here and here is the latest in flash drive form. It’s called the Bat Stick and is a 4GB flash drive shaped like the “Bat-Mobile”. Looks more like the Bat-Boat if you ask us.

It’s made from recycled stuff, so that’s cool. Better get this guy quick though. Only a single unit was created, using a broken Batman toy, some tape, some glue and a memory stick. It will cost you $40 on Etsy.

Create your own android with this paintable Android figurine

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on July 23rd, 2010

Dyzplastic’s blank Android canvas is awesome. You can make it into any droid that you want. Give it a Joker face, make it into R2-D2, whatever floats your boat.

This $6 Do It Yourself geek project will be available at Comic-Con this week and should pop up for sale on Dyzplastics in early August. The possibilities are endless. Create an Android Steve Jobs or make it look like an X-Man. I want one.

Fake painting blocks cellphone signals

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Conner Flynn on May 17th, 2010

We aren’t sure why you would want to block all cell signals in your home. Maybe if you are a super villain or a spy this would come in handy. Maybe you just want people to stay off the phone and focus.

Anyway, this cell phone jammer is disguised to look like a generic painting of some boats. People will just think you buy crap art and they will stop visiting you because you live in a dead zone. It will cost you $150. Hey, art uglier than this costs a lot more.

Posted in iPad accessories by Conner Flynn on March 27th, 2010

If you want to import your photos onto your iPad then you’ll be happy to know that Apple has finally put the iPad Camera Connection Kit up on the Apple Store. You’ll be able to stare at pics of little Billy blowing out his Birthday candles or little Sally petting a goat at the farm. Whatever floats your goat, I mean boat.

The camera kit is only $30, but you’ll have to wait a bit as it ships in late April. But after that, you have a nice fancy digital photo frame.

Versus network comes back to DirecTV

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on March 16th, 2010

Last summer I was all set to watch some MMA fights on the Versus network on my DirecTV service. When I went to watch the fights Versus had been pulled from DirecTV and in its place was a page that said Versus wanted too much money and DirecTV pulled the station.

I was not happy. If you were in the same boat, Versus is coming back to DirecTV. DirecTV and Versus have announced that the two firms have settled their differences and the Versus station will come back to all DirecTV packages that had the station before.

Rich, geeky, and live by the water? We have the toy for you!

If I were loaded and could stand to be in the 650-degree Texas summer heat longer than it takes to sprint from the house to my car, I would totally buy the Jetlev Flyer. The thing is a combination of a jet ski and a jetpack.

You strap into the pack, which has twin nozzles behind the pilot and a pair of handles that control the thrust allowing control over altitude. The long yellow hose you see in the picture here attaches to a motor on a boat that trolls along behind the Jetlev Flyer.

Wal-Mart is buying Vudu movie service

Posted in Set Top Boxes by Conner Flynn on February 22nd, 2010

According to the New York Times, Wal-Mart will acquire Vudu, the online movie service. Looks like it will be a good match since Wal-Mart sells a boat-load of DVDs. Vudu gives them an easy way into the streaming market without having to build something from the ground up.

For Vudu it’s good as well. They’ve never been profitable, despite having their players embedded in increasing numbers of TVs which may have turned that around eventually. Walmart should make it easy to build on that momentum.

Hacked Wiimote saves scientists money

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 15th, 2009

Hacked Wiimote saves scientists moneyHacking a Wiimote is nothing new, but William Luxemburg from the Delft University of Technology is using the Wiimote and an LED light as a water-level sensor, measuring evaporation. The image tells the story. Just a tub of water with a Wiimote pointing at a plastic boat.

It’s simple and cost-effective and yields the same, or better results than pressure sensors that cost $500 or more. He re-programmed the Wiimote’s output and when it was connected wirelessly to a laptop he was able to receive real-time information on what the water level was doing in the tub.

RC Feed Boat

Posted in Outdoors by Conner Flynn on August 3rd, 2009

RC Feed BoatFishing can be fun, but really boring if they aren’t biting. This remote controlled Feed Boat can give you an edge against your gilled adversaries. The device comes with a built-in sonar sensor so it functions as a fish finder.

The remote control features an LED display that will always show you just where the best spot to fish is. It will also show you the current water temperature. It has a range of 948 feet and a tipper for 4.4lbs of bait as well as an underwater LED light. How does a pair of jet motors sound? That ought to help you get through overgrown waters.

6 In 1 solar robot kit

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on May 28th, 2009

6 In 1 solar robot kitThis 6 in 1 solar kit can be built into a dog, boat, car, plane (static and moving), and even a windmill. Looks like a great way to learn a bit about robotics and solar energy. Only £13.00, which is odd because I don’t think they get much sun in the UK, so not very much play time with this thing.

Still, rain or shine, you get a bunch of variety in one kit. Six robots are better than one. Buy a few kits and soon you’ll have a solar robot army.

Pirates and Ninjas battle in dodgeball smack down

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on May 20th, 2009

dodgeball-sbI have fond memories of dodge ball games form my elementary school days. You could always tell who was good at the game by the looks on their face when the coach rolled out that metal rack with all the red plastic balls on it. A smile and a woot meant watch out, a frown and a look of terror meant dodge ball fodder.

A game that pits pirates and ninjas in a dodge ball death match is now available for the Nintendo Wii. The game is called Pirates vs. Ninjas Dodgeball. If pirates and ninjas don’t float your boat, you can also play as a team of zombies, aliens, robots, monsters, or mushroom men.

MIT working on Virus powered batteries

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2009

MIT working on Virus powered batteries Typically a battery functions with lithium ions flowing between a negatively charged anode, usually graphite, and the positively charged cathode, usually cobalt oxide or lithium iron phosphate. But three years ago, an MIT team reported that it had engineered viruses that could build an anode by coating themselves with cobalt oxide and gold and self-assembling to form a nanowire. The “virus batteries” have the energy capacity and power performance similar to rechargeable batteries.

The prototype battery is a coin battery, but the idea is that cell and larger batteries could be made from this process and that one day it will power cars, boats and everything else. As it stands right now, it can go at least 100 charges before performance goes down. That will change of course.
