blackberrypearlflip8230-sbWhen it comes to smartphone most of them have the same bar or PDA style form factor. Those preferring to use a clamshell style phone don’t have many options with the current crop of smartphones. Clamshells are preferred by some people because they are more compact.

Alltel has announced that the Blackberry Pearl Flip 8230 handset will be available on its network starting in early May. The handset is a full Blackberry smartphone with the clamshell style and a SureType QWERTY keyboard underneath.

BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 from VerizonIf you’re a fan of Verizon you’ll be happy to know that the BlackBerry Pearl Flip 8230 will be with the carrier soon. It’s the first clamshell BlackBerry, so it looks a little strange, but it’s a good solid phone that’s been available for a few months from other carriers.

We don’t have any word on pricing and availability. We do know that silver will be among the color choices. The release date should be very soon since test units have gone out.

Verizon BlackBerry Curve 8330

Verizon Wireless has decided two of its more popular  BlackBerry smartphones are deserving of a new body color as college students get ready to return to school this fall. The cell phone company is unveiling pink versions of the BlackBerry Curve 8330 and BlackBerry Pearl 8130, priced at around $100 and $80, respectively.

Verizon had this to say about the features of these two phones: “The BlackBerry Curve 8330 is the smallest and lightest full-QWERTY BlackBerry smartphone, which makes the handset a natural fit for fashion-savvy students who need to manage their responsibilities at school, while staying connected to their family and friends. Additionally, students traveling off campus can take advantage of Verizon Wireless’ VZ Navigator(SM) service on their BlackBerry Curve to access maps, audible turn-by-turn navigation and information on more than 14 million points of interest.

“Kickstart”: First BlackBerry clamshell phone
You’re looking at the BlackBerry clamshell, dubbed the Kickstart. The Boy Genius has shared a handful of photos of the device and I know you can’t stop starring. BGR insists this isn’t fake. The phone has a Pearl-type keyboard, trackball navigation, and seems to have both an internal and external LCD screen. Nothing on specs, carrier, release date and all that jazz, but according to BGR it’s due before year’s end. We’ll keep you updated.

Pink BlackBerry Pearl from Verizon WirelessThe BlackBerry Pearl has been coming out in a number of new colors lately and we had heard earlier this month that the latest will be this new pink model with Verizon. We knew it was coming soon and today Verizon Wireless along with Research In Motion (RIM) announced that the Pearl in Pink is coming to Verizon stores and online starting tomorrow (Friday).

Gone are the days of smartphones lacking style and color according to Verizon as they describe the pink BlackBerry Pearl 8130 as “chic and sophisticated”, and it still packs all the same communication features of it’s bland siblings and Verizon’s tools via the EV-DO network. The pink version, just like the others can browse the web with the Verizon wireless broadband connection, has a speakerphone, 2 megapixel camera, media player, external microSD memory card slot, wireless Bluetooth and that not-quite-QWERTY keyboard.

Verizon releases the LG Voyager, LG Venus and Samsung Juke and Blackberry Pearl mobile phones in a new lineup for the holidays to take on Apple’s iPhoneVerizon went ahead and unleashed four new phones all at once targeted at the fall shopping season trying to get a share of AT&T’s iPhone dollars. The new lineup includes the Voyager and Venus from LG along with the narrow Samsung Juke and the Blackberry Pearl sporting EV-DO.

The headliner of this Verizon release party is the LG Voyager looking very similar to the iPhone from the outside with a large touchscreen on the face. Once you get your hands on the Voyager you’ll see that it’s a little bulkier than the iPhone and that touchscreen face actually hinges open to expose another display inside that faces a large QWERTY keyboard, hence the thickness. The Voyager also has V CAST Mobile TV, a microSD slot and a modest 2 megapixel camera.

BlackBerry Pearl 8100 SmartPhone

Posted in BlackBerry,Mobile Phones,PDAs,Smart Devices by Darrin Olson on September 7th, 2006

BlackBerry PearlResearch In Motion has come out with a new BlackBerry called the Pearl. The Black Pearl sounds familiar, but I cannot imagine pirating has anything to do with this.

Anyway, this smartphone is smaller than BlackBerry’s previous devices, which have been just a little on the bulky side lately compared to similar gadgets, so I guess this was probably due. You can see by the photo that to shrink down the keyboard, there are two letters per button. It has a small “pearl like” trackball navigation that is supposed to set a new standard …
