900K DS systems, 600K Wiis sold this week

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on November 29th, 2010

Nintendo saw a resurgence in sales during Thanksgiving week. Starting from November 21 and running through this past Sunday, the company shipped 900,000 DS, DSi and DSi XL systems as well as 600,000 Wii units.

It credited the spike to the usual Black Friday push as well as new colors for the devices. The company didn’t say whether or not either figure was a record for the week, but both are well above Nintendo’s average sales results through the rest of the year.

If you like the added control you get with the Wii when you are playing a game that uses MotionPlus, but hate that the accessory for MotionPlus adds extra length and weight to the Nintendo controller, then check this out.

Sure, Nintendo is integrating MotionPlus into controllers now, but maybe you prefer third-party controllers. Well, this one is from Sunflex and is called the Snakebyte Premium Remote XL+ Controller for Wii with MotionPlus. The controller comes in white or black and features a speaker, vibration feedback, and integrated memory to save settings.

W!! External Hard Drive Casing looks like a Nintendo Wii

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on October 12th, 2010

Is that a Wii? The packaging would lead you to believe that it is, but actually it’s a W!!. A hard drive enclosure that looks like a miniature black Wii. Get it? W!!? Very clever. It will house a 2.5-inch SATA hard drive and offers a USB 2.0 connection that you can connect to your PC or Mac.

As an added bonus, the package includes some tiny Wiimote-like key chains that are also whistles. Umm. Okay. It’ll cost you $9.70, which isn’t bad for a fake Wii that will hold your hard drive.

Review: Nyko Wand+

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on August 31st, 2010

Nyko sent us a review unit of the Nyko Wand+, so we checked it out to see how it works. Nyko’s Wand + is designed to be the best controller on the market for the Wii. It requires no extra attachments for accurate motion control, since the Wii Plus add-on is built into it for full 1:1 movement tracking. So it is compatible with all games that use the Wii Motion Plus attachment.

It’s the first and only Wii controller on the market that has Wii Motion Plus built-in. For now. It’s the same size as the standard Wiimote, but it feels lighter and much more comfortable in your hand. It looks way cooler as well. We played several games and sure enough, it worked smoothly. Just as good as your typical Wii controller and it did seem more precise, which made gaming better.

Call of Duty: Black Ops MadCatz controllers

Posted in Controllers by Conner Flynn on July 14th, 2010

It’s time for the next Call of Duty. Just like last year, Mad Catz is producing a bunch of licensed Black Ops peripherals for the Wii, Xbox 360, PS3 and PC to go along with the game. Above is the 360 controller, which features precision aiming, which is just a lowering of the analog sticks’ sensitivity when you want more precision.

You can toggle it by using the “combat” buttons on the controller’s back. The price should be just under $50 for the console pads and $100 for a Cyborg Rat PC mouse which comes with a 2GB USB dog tag.

Wii controllers for people with really small hands

Posted in Wii Accessories by Conner Flynn on June 15th, 2010

Do you have freakishly small hands? If so, the Wiimote is probably too big for you. Good thing Power A has your back with this new MiniRemote and MiniChuck. These controllers are 35% smaller. Great for those of small hand, little people, grandmothers and kids.

This retails for $49.99 and is due out in September. They are fully compatible with MotionPlus, and feature large buttons that are easy to find with your tiny fingers.

Nintendo Wii sales down 21 percent in a single year

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on May 6th, 2010

When the Nintendo Wii was released, people called it gimmicky with it’s motion controller, but in spite of that, the console has done really well. But the fact that it’s aging and doesn’t have many grown-up games may be shortening it’s life as a console.

According to Nintendo’s fiscal report, the company sold 20.53 million Wii consoles last year, which is a 21 percent drop from the 25.95 million from the previous year. However this is still Nintendo’s third-best year ever. Will sales of the Wii pick up? I’m not seeing it.

Nintendo Wii Classic Controller Pro hits the US

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on April 20th, 2010

If you own a Wii and are still playing it, you’ll be happy to know that the Classic Controller Pro is now available in the US. The controller features another row of shoulder buttons and ergonomically friendly grips to help you, well, keep a grip.

It can also be plugged straight into the Wii Remote controller for wireless connectivity with the Wii. This classic blast from the past comes in either black or white. We aren’t sure which games it works with, but we know that it works with over 450 Wii, WiiWare and Virtual Console games.
