Hands On: BlackBerry Storm launching Friday |
As I am sure you are all aware, Verizon Wireless is launching the much-anticipated BlackBerry Storm tomorrow. This device is RIM’s first delve into a touchscreen mobile phone and swing at taking some of the market share away from Apple and the iPhone. We had a chance to get our hands on the Storm on the eve of the launch day and had some fun playing with the touchscreen and its unique clicking technology.
Obviously the most interesting part of the Storm is the single big button of a screen so we’ll just cut to the chase. The touchscreen in general works as you would expect, sensing your touch on the glass and allowing you to scroll through things like lists, menus and across maps. What’s different about the touchscreen on the BlackBerry Storm which sets it apart from other touchscreen phones is that the glass display is like a single large, mechanical button.

Everybody always gets the goods before we do. T-Mobile Germany released the BlackBerry 8900 today, which offers improved performance over the original BlackBerry Pearl. This new Curve model has some of the following features: 480 x 360 resolution display, Wi-Fi connectivity, GPS navigation, 3.2 megapixel camera and DivX and XviD support. The most prominent feature is the new trackball, which should be tighter and cleaner than those used since the launch of the original BlackBerry Pearl. It will cost you(If you’re German) 4.95 Euros with a two-year contract. Otherwise it will cost you 359.90 Euros.
We didn’t see this one coming. Boy Genius has uncovered some pics and specs on a new Nokia flip that’s destined for AT&T. It’s super secret codename? “Wahoo”. Damn they’re creative. This quad-band clamshell has an interesting half-QWERTY keypad, internal 2.2-inch QVGA display, 1.36-inch external unit, push-to-talk, microSD expansion, and A2DP support. It sports a form-factor that’s similar to the BlackBerry Pearl Flip. Nothing on a release date. Wa-freakin-hoo.
One of the most popular form factors for mobile phones is the flip phone. Despite the popularity of the flip phone, it’s not typically a design associated with smartphones, which tend to be bar style phones resembling the PDA’s many sprang from.
