Warner Home Video has announced its first BD-Live enabled Blu-ray film is coming. The film is The Dark Knight, the latest Batman film that was the last performance of actor Heath Ledger. I saw the movie at the theater and it was fantastic.

Dark Knight throwing knives make dangerous stocking stabbers

Posted in Weapons by Conner Flynn on November 23rd, 2008

Dark Knight throwing knives make dangerous stocking StabbersYou’ll notice, I didn’t say stuffers. You won’t want to stuff a stocking with these, but rather chuck them until you stab the stocking, so that everyone knows that the Batman was there, making for a chilling and very creepy Christmas morning.

The Twin Bat Throwing Knife Set is made of solid 440 stainless steel that can probably slice and dice the flesh of anyone you gift them too. Two authentic bat shaped throwers are included as well a nylon case with belt loop. They’re cheap at only $9.99. “The stockings were hung by Batman with glee, when he threw some Bat knives that nearly hit me….”

homerWhy are geeks drawn to Legos? They’re fun sure. You can create original stuff and recreate almost anything imaginable. It probably has something to do with why the pyramids were constructed in Egypt. Humans just need to create. And since the dawn of time geeks have been the most innovative and creative. Here’s a look at a bunch of random cool statues all done up in lego. Statues used to be made from bronze, steel, gold, concrete… But the age of Lego is at hand.

1973 GT Opel Batmobile is one odd Bat-carAccording to the description on this eBay auction, some nutty doctor in California took a 1973 GT Opel and converted it into a Batmobile to bring to the hospital for kids. The kid part is a noble idea. But a 1973 Opel? It’s unique, we have to give him that.

The auction ended at $9,000.00. Some of the specs include: a SONY Digital Navigation System #NVX-F160, SONY Pre-Amp XDP-U50D, SONY 10 Disk CD Changer CDX-U404, SONY Hi-8 VCR, Pioneer CD player DEH-85 in the dash….comes with the batman theme on cd!, Alpine Bat Phone #91530, Super Nintendo NES Game system with Batman Forever game, SONY Interface Equalizer #XE-744 and a whole lot more. Strange, but we dig it.

Prices for Blu-ray players to drop for Christmas

Posted in Home Theater by Shane McGlaun on November 10th, 2008

Batman BeginsBlu-ray was able to beat HD DVD early this year to become the HD format champion. After it won the format wars many hoped that the price for Blu-ray players would become more affordable. So far that price drop hasn’t really materialized.

According to ABI Research, the Blu-ray price drop may finally be here. ABI says that prices for Blu-ray players this holiday season could be as low as $150 to $200. Amazon has a Samsung Blu-ray player for $200 that includes four Blu-ray movies with it. According to ABI Blu-ray hardware makers need to reduce prices to gain the momentum needed to penetrate the market further.

In-ear headphones for Superheroes & nerds alike

Posted in Headphones by Conner Flynn on October 5th, 2008

In-ear headphones for Superheroes & nerds alikeLook, we all know you’ve taken the Superhero thing way too far. Just the other day I saw you ride by on your modified Batman big-wheel and return hours later with your ass kicked. And that wasn’t the first time. It might be better to give your butler a break from tending your wounds and just chill. Listen to some music while you’re living out your fantasies through comic books.

And these are the perfect headphones. This way you can still feel like a hero without suffering the indignity of getting a wedgie from the Joker. These headphones are from the Greenhouse electronics company and clearly inspired by our favorite bat and spider. In fact you can choose from 13 different models, all with a frequency response of 20Hz-20,000Hz, an impedance of 16 ohms, and a maximum input of 3 megawatts.

Rock the Bat Cave with the Batman Boombox

Posted in music by Conner Flynn on September 18th, 2008

Rock the Bat Cave with the Batman BoomboxHow does Robin crank up the tunes while Batman is out cleaning up the streets of Gotham? With Batman’s boombox of course. While it’s not shaped like a bat-wing or anything, it has a strange shape that resembles a…bat-something or other, with colors that go more with the comic books then the movies.

Features include such things as a tuner with LCD display, the ability to play CDs, CD-R and CDRW format, dynamic bass boost, line-in for portable MP3, player support, and top load media. It’s not hard to imagine Batman entertaining Catwoman one night and as he goes to put on some soft romantic tunes, the sound of Robin’s hardcore heavy metal deafens him as it sends bats flying everywhere. After a moment he switches CD’s, but sadly Catwoman’s purr is now gone. Such is the sad and lonely life of the Batman. Sigh.

Israeli students design batsuit for flight

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on September 9th, 2008

Israeli students design batsuit for flightSick and tired of waiting for Bruce Wayne to market one through Wayne Industries, students at the Technion-Israel Institute of Technology have designed a winged flight-suit very similar to Batman’s outfit. The suit could allow humans dropped from airplanes to glide on their own just like the Dark Knight. First they estimated the size of the wings and tail needed for stability and how strong they would have to be to stand up to the drag forces they had calculated.

Interestingly, after wind tunnel tests, they discovered that flying in a “Superman” position would be impossible due to drag. Which really sucks because I had my blue pajamas all ready to go and the Superman position is really cool. It took about 100 trials, but they finally refined their original design into what they think is the perfect model and finally concluded that it would take a special kind of guy to use it. Either Batman himself or a super fit pilot who could comfortably wear the suit and use it to its fullest. It’s great news and all, but I’m bummed about the whole Superman thing.

BatRest for iPhone has nothing to do with Batman

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on September 3rd, 2008

BatRest for iPhoneI like watching video on my iPhone when I am out of the house and need something to do to kill a few minutes. The catch is that every time I watch a video my kids want to watch too and I end up having to hold the phone far enough away that everyone can watch. Putting the iPhone flat on a table doesn’t work well.

Seskimo has launched a new stand for the iPhone, iPhone 3G, iPod touch, and other phones that holds the device upright in a landscape orientation. The stand is called the BatRest and is made from plastic and folds to the size of a credit card. Three different colors are available including translucent, white, and black.

Return of the USB-powered Batman spotlight

Return of the USB-powered Batman spotlight
We first told you about the Bat Signal spotlight back in March. But back then no one had seen the latest Dark Knight flick yet. So it’s only natural that we would see another version now that the movie has come out. In this DIY version, they’ve updated the Bat Symbol itself to the one from the new films.

See, that’s why Batman never showed up when you called. You were using an outdated bat symbol. This one looks much cooler. You’ll need a couple of old bottle caps, tinfoil(Some of you already have hats you can tear a piece off of), cheap USB light, small piece of clear plastic, cardboard, soldiering iron, hot glue gun, paint, and some time. Then you’ll be annoying your cubicle mates in no time.

Dark Knight Xbox 360 on eBay, will cost you
This rare Dark Knight Xbox 360 was spotted at the Microsoft game exhibition in Taiwan. Every self respecting nerd and his comic book dealer want to get their hands on it, but that just isn’t going to happen. Turns out there were only 110 made and it looks like the only way to get one is on ebay, where they seem to be going for $800 and up. It only comes with a 20GB hard drive and the same accessories as the $300 bundle. You better go find a money tree and shake it real hard. There’s always this thing.

Batman Learning laptop, for when you mate with Catwoman

Batman Learning laptop, for when you mate with Catwoman
Here’s an interesting laptop to get your child if you’ve recently spawned a next generation hero by getting it on with Catwoman or some other costumed freak. Or if your kid is named Robin and you dress him up in a tiny costume maybe. Oregon Scientific is making sure they get a slice of the Dark Knight pie, by offering your children this laptop sprouting bat wings. When closed it looks like Batman’s chest. Or as your child would say, “It look like dada” just before you leave for the next Comic Book convention.

C’mon people, even the kids in Gotham don’t sport Bat laptops. It’s known as the Batman Powerwing Laptop and runs on 3 x AA batteries for $89.99. If any of you adult geeks without kids get this thing for yourself, I suggest you don’t brag about it. For the rest of you, make sure that you let your kids play with it too.

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition

Xbox 360 Dark Knight edition
And Dark Knight mania continues. If we aren’t spotting a DIY Tumbler or learning how Batman spends his nights, we are coming across some other Batman inspired Doodad.

In this case we’ve got an Xbox 360 under protective plastic with the Dark knight logo branded onto it. This is apparently a “limited edition” or one of a kind Dark Knight Xbox 360 shown off by Microsoft over in Taiwan. That’s about all we know. Zip,zero, zilch, nada. One can only drool and imagine batwing controllers.
