GTS World Racing hits iPhone

Posted in Mobile Phones by Shane McGlaun on August 12th, 2008

GTS World RacingNow that Apple has launched the iPhone App Store, the iPhone has become a serious mobile gaming platform. I have downloaded a number of iPhone games and most often find the iPhone very good for gaming. A few of the games I have tried have problems with controls, but for the most part quality games work fantastically.

A company called Handmark has launched its first arcade-style racing game — called GTS World Racing — specifically for the iPhone that takes advantage of the accelerometer built-in the iPhone for controls. To get the car in the game to accelerate, brake, and steer you move the iPhone itself. The way you control most games for the iPhone reminds me a lot of the Nintendo Wii.

Noreve iPhone 3G Diamond Pouch is Perfect for the Insanely Rich

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Shane McGlaun on August 11th, 2008

Noreve iPhone 3G Diamond PouchThere is no shortage of insanely expensive gadgets and accessories for the wealthy geek that feels the need to show off. The catch is that some of the really expensive handsets — like the Vertu Signature — can show off how rich you are, but really don’t offer much in the way of cool features and usability.

What if you are one of the really rich types that wants a phone that actually works well — like the iPhone 3G — but the iPhone just isn’t expensive enough for you? You could go with the iPhone 3G and then swath it in the most expensive iPhone 3G accessory ever — the $15,000 Noreve Diamond Case.

Sony Ericsson ultra-slim T700 3G mobile phone
The Sony Ericsson T700 is now official. And officially sexy. They obviously took a page from Apples design team. Measuring only 10mm thick, the slim candybar phone boasts 3G connections and high speed HSDPA. The handset also offers a 3.2MP camera, stereo Bluetooth, two speakers and a memory stick slot. It will also geotag photos, but instead of packing full GPA, it uses cell-tower data to roughly work out your position. The Sony Ericsson Ultra-slim T700 phone should be available in the fourth quarter of 2008.

Apple to stream your iTunes to your iPhone?

Apple to stream your iTunes to your iPhone?
Not sure how much we are willing to believe this, but AppleInsider has found a patent that apparently shows music over the internet streaming to your iPhone and iPod touch. You wouldn’t have to sync content to your device. Instead, you’d sync only the metadata and stream whatever you wanted direct from your computer. Like i said, we aren’t sure if we’re buying this just yet, but it’s interesting. My guess is that there may be just a smidgen of truth to this, but we’re missing some kind of important piece of info. While you’re waiting on this, get an iPhone arm.

Pictures of Apple’s new MacBook leaked?
No one seems to know for sure if these are the real deal, but we might, just might be looking at Apple’s new MacBook. It’s hard to say what’s going on in the photos, but it looks like the back of a metal laptop lid and the inner panel of a display. And it says MacBook on it, which lends some credibility. The rumor has been that the next line of smaller laptops would be made from aluminum just like the bigger ones. Bottom line: There’s no way to know if these pics are real or fakery. We’ll be keeping an eye on it for you either way.

The Apple “iThink” concept

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on August 2nd, 2008

The Apple “iThink” conceptConsider this a concept that that might have been and may still be, should Steve Jobs get a bit too enamored with The Matrix. It could be the next hot Apple item, leaving the iPod and iPhone in the dust. Designer Paul Micarelli came up with it.

The Symbiosis™ Neural Interface:Direct brain-computer link means your mind and computer are one. It sports Intel Fusion™, Quantum Processing that uses the power of the atom to instantly compute at the speed of thought., Holographic Data Storage thanks to the iThink’s tiny internal holochip with an amazing individual capacity of over 666 Yottabytes for seemingly infinite augmented memory, Intra-neural Communication lets you mentally allow or block any kind of signal you want. With the iThink, it wont be long until you are docking yourself like some Borg in the hive collective, rather then docking your iPod.

iPod Touch getting 64GB, GPS?
A few days ago we told you about Apple’s plans to spruce up their iPod line soon. Now there is much speculation that the iPod Touch will soon be geting 64GB capacity and possibly even GPS.

I would say it’s very likely. Even probable. More storage is a must. And if you’ve got some form of GPS already in your ipod, that’s all many people need. It’s just keeping the product up to date and competing. A GPS in an iPod will take a bite out of many other GPS devices, so long as pricing is nice.

Jive multi-platform capable computer announced

Posted in PCs by Shane McGlaun on July 28th, 2008

Jive ComputerMost users will agree that a Mac computer costs more than a similar Windows based system. One reason for the increased cost of Mac systems is that Apple doesn’t license its operating system. This means that you are only supposed to be able to get the Mac OS on complete computers built by Apple. That little fact doesn’t stop some from trying to make Mac clones– like Psystar.

The problem with firms like Psystar that try to sell Mac clones with the Mac Os pre-installed is that it breaks the software license and leads to Apple suing the firms into oblivion. A company called RSOL PC has announced a new computer called the Jive that it says is Multi-platform capable. The Jive machine can be had with no OS or pre-installed Windows, Ubuntu, and Fedora.

Beats by Dr. Dre Headphones get launch date and lower price

Posted in Monster by Shane McGlaun on July 23rd, 2008

Beats by Dr. Dre HeadphonesWay back in January at CES 2008 we first heard of the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones from Monster. The headphones promised new technology that would bring sound quality to headphones that was not previously seen in consumer grade products. The catch was the price was right at $400.

Monster has announced that the Beats by Dr. Dre headphones will be available on July 25 and will be exclusive to the Apple store and Best Buy. The headphones are being aimed squarely at users of the iPhone and iPhone 3G as well as iPods.

Suo Xin ZT888 with Apple call buttons

Suo Xin ZT888 with Apple call buttons
The Suo Xin ZT888 is a nice looking mobile phone from China that comes with an extra genuine leather case/battery for some reason. This caught my eye because of the call buttons. I’m pretty sure Apple doesn’t approve and I can only guess that they are trying to fool some morons into thinking that this is the new iPhone they’ve heard so much about.

This luxury phone comes in white and black, both with gold and sports a 2.4 inch display and 2.0-megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Dual SIM slots, microSD slot and other basic functions like Calculator, Calendar, Memo, Alarm, World time, stopwatch and games. It will cost you $115.43. Probably the cheapest phone with an Apple logo.

iTunes is a smoke free zone

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 20th, 2008

iTunes is a smoke free zone
We entered the Politically Correct or PC age sometime in the 90′s, and the effect that it has had on censorship, whether blatant or mild, continues in one form or another to this day. Take the above image for instance. Moronic as it may seem, the cigarette in the hand of the man in the Mad Men promotional image was digitally removed when it was placed on iTunes.

Apparently Apple thinks that anyone who sees (a rough poster outline) of a man smoking, will begin smoking a pack a day immediately. It proves one thing I’ve known for years: Consumers are not nearly as stupid as those in charge of making such idiotic decisions as whether to remove a cigarette from a TV character’s hand or not. Yeah, people have been having trouble getting their iPhone to work for like a week, but they have the cigarette until control, never you fear.
