iPad 2 commercials already shot by Apple?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on November 8th, 2010

Word is that Apple has already started to shoot ads for a new iPad 2 in New York with British photographer David Sims. Take this with a grain of salt for now as there is no evidence, not even a leaked document or a blurry image.

However, you can bet an iPad 2 is coming at some point, but we will likely have to wait until at least next year. Until then we can all guess at just what the next iPad will offer.

Apple to extend iTunes song previews to 90 seconds in U.S.

Posted in iTunes by Conner Flynn on November 2nd, 2010

Looks like Apple has informed music labels that it is preparing to extend the length of iTunes Store song previews in the United States to 90 seconds. This would be for songs that are at least 2 minutes and 30 seconds long. Shorter songs will continue to offer the current 30-second samples. I don’t know about you, but I’m glad to hear it, no pun intended.

Apple’s email says that by continuing to offer their music on the iTunes Store, labels are indicating their acceptance of the new terms. Any labels who do not wish to agree with the terms must withdraw their music from the iTunes Store.(As if they have a choice. Where else would they go?)

iPad arriving in Walmart stores starting next week?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 10th, 2010

Way back in May we told you that Walmart would be offering iPads this year and it looks like that is about to happen. A photo of an email sent to Walmart store managers received by MacRumors indicates that the Apple iPad will be rolled out to up to 1000 stores by the end of October, starting next week.

The photos show that Walmart will be offering all six models of the iPad with initial stock limited to just five of each model per store. Never fear, the standard range of iPad accessories will also offered along with AppleCare extended warranties. Sources say that an additional 800 stores will begin carrying the device in November, and each store will have a live demo unit inside a case that will include a looping video demonstration of the iPad in action.

RIM BlackPad Tablet may be announced in November

Posted in BlackBerry by Conner Flynn on September 21st, 2010

We’ve been hearing rumors of a BlackBerry tablet for some time now. We know it’s coming. The company has even registered the domain www.blackpad.com.

Now the rumor is that the BlackPad will be announced in late November and should be arriving late in the holiday season. The pricing is said to be $499 which puts it in the ballpark with Apple’s low-end iPad. But can a Blackberry tablet compete with the iPad? RIMs phones haven’t fared so well lately.

Apple licenses tech from TV guide maker Rovi

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on September 20th, 2010

Apple never rests and as proof, an SEC filing today revealed that it has struck a “multi-year agreement” with Rovi in what may be a strategy to support the new Apple TV. The terms are secret, but will let Apple license Rovi’s technology over the course of the deal. Neither company has commented yet.

It’s hard to say what Apple would use the tech for. The company makes interactive program guide material that taps into TV channel lineups. It also makes software for set-top boxes to access and share media stored both on the Internet and the local network. So Apple TV is a good guess.

iPad headed to Target on October 3rd?

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on September 13th, 2010

Apple iPad launchRumor is that the iPad might hit Target stores in October. There’s no concrete proof yet, but some info from a tipster seems to suggest just that. Among the compelling evidence is a list featuring a mysteriously unnamed product that’s set to become available on October 3rd (in six different versions), and a series of images from a Target PDA that seem to show that the item numbers match the iPad prices exactly.

Also it will be located in the Digital Audio section, which is apparently how e-readers like the Kindle are classified, as well as iPods.

iPod nano without Click Wheel is coming

Posted in iPod Nano by Conner Flynn on August 26th, 2010

Looks like the September 1st event by Apple might add a new iPod nano that could do away with the traditional Click Wheel design. It sure looks that way judging by some new cases. It’s a radical departure from previous generations of the iPod nano.

The missing Click Wheel makes it all smaller. We won’t know for sure until the event, but this one is looking confirmed.

Next-gen iPod touch, nano, shuffle cases surface

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on August 26th, 2010

You know the drill. An Apple event is imminent and lo and behold some cases turn up online. Yep, we’ve been here before. These come from Chinese case retailer X-Doria. There’s a case for what appears to be a 4th-gen iPod touch with a camera, and one that’s described as a case for a “nano 6G,” which could be for a new iPod shuffle with touchscreen.

The iPod touch case looks like it has a curved back similar to the current model, while the nano / shuffle case looks like it will hold that 1.7-inch Apple touchscreen that was rumored last month.

Fox, others considering 99-cent iTunes TV rentals?

Posted in iTunes by Conner Flynn on August 24th, 2010

There had been previous rumors, but now a new source claims that Apple is deeper into negotiations with Fox’s parent company News Corp., as well as “other media companies”, regarding deals for the plan, which would give one or two days of viewing at half the price of a purchase. CBS and Disney are also considering it.

The rumors around iTV persist as well. It would cost just $.99 and have a “smaller hard drive,” a flash drive, and would rely more heavily on streaming than locally stored media. Some other detailed rumors have said that it would still stop at 720p, but that it would run a variant of iOS and could have an app platform.

More details on Microsoft’s Arc Touch Mouse revealed

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on August 18th, 2010

Microsoft hasn’t made it official yet, but the image above of the Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse showed up on a German online store. The back of the mouse is arched for comfortable use and folds flat for portability when on the go.

The mouse also boasts touch-scrolling, a battery indicator, and it can be used on most surfaces. There’s also a 2.4GHz nano transceiver for your laptop’s USB port.

Images of screen for iPod touch 4 surface

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on August 6th, 2010

Yesterday we saw some images of what is supposed to be an iPhone touch 4 mockup and case surface. Today we see some new shots of what it supposed to be the screen for the next iPod touch.

The images come from MacRumors and the site claims to have received the images from an Apple supplier. The screen clearly shows the hole needed for a front facing camera.

New iPods, smaller iPad and iPhone 5 in early 2011?

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on August 4th, 2010

Word on the street is that there will be a revised set of Apple devices coming soon (as if that’s a surprise), specifically an iPod shuffle with a touchscreen display, a 7″ iPad for early next year, and a fifth generation iPhone as early as next January.

We would guess that the 7″ iPad is the focus, since it would make the device all the more appealing in a smaller form factor. Time will tell what the items will be, but at least we know that there are always more Apple products falling from the tree.

Apple unveils Magic Trackpad

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on July 27th, 2010

The rumors were right and here it is. The Apple Magic Trackpad is a wireless touch input device that just debuted in Apple’s Store app for iOS 4. The glass-covered device sports an aluminum shell that replicates the multitouch area of Apple’s MacBooks.

The device is powered by a built-in battery, so you’ll need to keep it juiced if you’re going to use it a lot. The Apple Magic Trackpad will retail for $69 and uses no wires thanks to built-in Bluetooth.

Next-gen iPod touch to get front-facing camera? September release?

Posted in iPod Touch by Conner Flynn on July 8th, 2010

There’s no way to confirm this one just yet, but Apple might be working on a new iPod touch. Some iPod touch parts have showed up on several Chinese websites, which show a hole on the front of the device that’s likely for a front-facing camera.

There are also some new comments from an exec at UK retailer John Lewis, who said that a major iPod touch refresh is coming in September, and that it will match many of the iPhone 4′s features, including a 5-megapixel camera with HD video recording, a gyroscope and even FaceTime support.

Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse to be Apple Magic Mouse rival

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on July 2nd, 2010

A new product listing has listed a Microsoft Arc Touch Mouse for $70. So of course rumors of Microsoft working on a rival to Apple’s Magic Mouse have begun. The prototype pictured above comes with a similar arc-shape to the current folding Arc mouse from Microsoft.

Curved transparent plastic and frustrated total internal reflection (FTIR) will be used to track several points of contact. And remember, touch/multitouch is already natively included in Windows 7, so a mouse like this would compliment it.
