Clearwire has been rolling its 4G WiMax network out into cities around the country via its own network, Sprint, and other partners. The 4G network offers very fast speeds and today Clearwire has announced a new device called the iSpot.

The iSpot is a mobile WiFi hotspot that provides 4G speed WiFi to any Apple device including the iPod touch, iPad, and iPhone. Clearwire says that the device is made specifically for Apple gear, but any WiFi enabled device can use it.

Apple fanboys have long gloated about the “fact” that Apple users are safe and secure compared to PC users. It’s utter nonsense of course and here’s further proof. Owners of the iPhone, iPod touch or iPad need to be careful. Visiting a web page and loading a simple PDF file might actually set off a security bug that affects all iOS 4-powered devices.

All it requires is for the user to visit a web address using Safari, and the site will automatically load a simple PDF document that holds a font which hides a special program. When the IOS 4-powered device you are using displays the PDF file, the font will begin the stack overflow condition that allows embedded code in the font to gain full control of your device.

Nielsen put out some interesting smartphone numbers today. There’s the usual market share numbers that put Google, RIM, and Apple at 27 percent, 33 percent, and 23 percent in sales to new smartphone subscribers. But more interesting are the numbers having to do with brand loyalty.

Those numbers don’t look good for BlackBerry. Here’s how it breaks down. 89 percent of iPhone owners plan on getting another iPhone, while 71 percent of Android buyers plan to re-buy, but only 42 percent of BlackBerry owners plan to stick around.

You have to live under a rock to not know about the issues that iPhone 4 users are having with the antenna on the new smartphone. Apple has admitted there is an issue and has offered up free cases for users to fix the issue.

Apple is even refunding users that bought the bumper case with their smartphone. Motorola is taking the chance to make fun of the iPhone 4 and its need for a case in its new ad for the Droid X.

Yeah I have wanted to kill my iPhone on a few occasions by hurling it at Steve Jobs’ testes. I really like the phone, but the thing can be frustrating at times, especially when the battery goes dead after half a day’s use.

I bet there are scores of Android fans out there who would heartily say piss on Apple. If you are one of this cadre of Android fans, we have found your club t-shirt. This shirt is on a French site called t12lve creations and the shirt is dubbed Andromod.

Samsung just couldn’t resist taking a shot at Apple over the whole Death Grip issue. As Apple is beginning to process the iPhone 4 bumper case refunds today, Samsung UK took a moment to gloat and have some fun by posting a Galaxy S ad.

The ad references the Death Grip and reminds users that the Galaxy S has strong cellular reception. Apple fanboys won’t like it, but it’s pretty funny. Nice one Samsung.

Steve Jobs can’t be happy about this. Apple has another iPhone 4 problem. This time, the elusive white iPhone strikes again, by being delayed again. All we know is that it will arrive sometime “later this year.”

Here is their statement: “White models of Apple’s new iPhone® 4 have continued to be more challenging to manufacture than we originally expected, and as a result they will not be available until later this year. The availability of the more popular iPhone 4 black models is not affected.”

I think that anyone who has tried to buy a new Apple product like the iPad or iPhone on launch day and the days and weeks thereafter knows that shortages are common. The main reason for shortages of Apple products like these is that Apple can’t get enough screens.

LG Display builds the screens for many of the Apple products including the iPad and iPhone. LG has stated that it will not be able to meet the demand that Apple has for screens.

FaceTime is nothing new really, but Apple is good at making you believe that it is revolutionary. FaceTime is actually very restricted. For one thing, you need to be within the area of a Wi-Fi network and then you can only call another iPhone 4 owner, not someone with another phone.

Then again, that’s the kind of control Apple loves. The FacePlant app shows users which of their contacts can receive video calls, which saves you a lot of time. FacePlant isn’t approved by Apple, but if it ever is, it will be available for free.

Apple’s recent offer of free bumper cases for the iPhone 4 is generous. Not as generous as a well engineered phone, but still. The move will cost quite a bit. One analyst had previously speculated that a full hardware recall would set Apple back $1.5B. Apple has announced a figure that is a bit easier to swallow.

The free bumper cases for the iPhone 4 will cost the company $175 million. But one still has to ask, how does such an engineering snafu get past Apple in the first place? One wonders if they were trying to save money for some reason. This whole issue is very unlike Apple.

You could get a band-aid for the iPhone 4′s antenna problem, or you could just be brutally honest and get this “End Call” iPhone 4 decal to remind you not to touch it there.

This is a much better solution to the antenna problem than the free Apple bumpers. And no, you won’t find it at the Apple Store. It hits a little too close to home for them.

Apple is giving away cases to all iPhone 4 owners, but what if you don’t want to use a case? It sucks that Apple’s bad design forces you to use a case. Yeah, they love their customers, just as long as you shut up and put a condom on your phone.

Well, these Antenna-Aids just might fix things without the need for a case. They are little colorful band-aids that stick right over that problem area on the new iPhone 4. The boo-boo if you will. The iPhone 4′s great unhealed wound, created not by skinning it’s knee on the playground, but rather from bad engineering, the equivalent of genetic inbreeding in the factory.

Here’s some more iPhone 4 drama. A mysterious software issue has been haunting some users. It’s otherworldly and all spooky like. There’s a bunch of discussion on the Apple forums about blank email messages appearing on the iPhone that can’t be deleted. The date that appears on those messages is December 31, 1969.

Almost as soon as iOS4 became available, some users began seeing these emails appear in their MobileMe or Gmail accounts with no sender, no subject, and no content. The date on the messages was shown as 12/31/69, but some users saw 1970. No big deal really, except that these unwelcome hippies who are emailing well before their time can’t be deleted permanently.

There’s no mobile version of Firefox for the iPhone yet, but the Firefox Home app lets you sync your desktop browsing session to your iPhone and browse it via Safari while you’re on the go. It’s not a real browser like Firefox, but we weren’t even sure that Apple would give the go ahead to Firefox Home.

The iPod Touch has been feeling pretty neglected lately with all of the iPhone 4 and iPad news. So Speck has come out with two new Fitted Artsprojekt cases. The cases have been designed by some of the world’s most progressive artists and members of Artsprojekt.

They should add a touch of sophistication to your device. The designs are printed on soft fabric and then fitted onto Speck’s hard-shell cases. The two new cases feature designs by Jared Nickerson, who created the “Mother Nature” theme. The second case has artwork from J. David McKenney.
