Apple just launched the latest version of their iOS for the iPhone and iPod Touch, and it is now available to download from iTunes. Some of those new features to the iPhone and iPod Touch include a bunch of bug fixes for the iPhone 3G which should speed things up. There’s also a fix for the proximity sensor issues on the iPhone 4.

New features in iOS 4.1 include HDR Photos, the ability to upload HD video over WiFi, TV show rentals for your iOS device and Game Center.

Motorola is pretty happy about their Droid line. There’s the great sales to be proud of along with the fact that the Droid 2 supports Flash. So the company hasn’t hesitated to get it’s digs in on Apple. Here is the latest.

The company has posted a full-page newspaper ad that parodies Apple’s “there’s an app for that” campaign, with the tagline “there’s a phone for that”. The question is, is Flash support an important factor to buyers?

Panasonic has launched its new HJC120 and HSC200 headphones. Both are certified for Apple’s iPod and iPhone and both models offer a built-in microphone and remote. They can also access the VoiceOver function of the iPod shuffle, which is nice.

The remote control is water resistant for extra protection. The HJC120 is a canal type of headphone with an ergonomic design and a 90mm OctaRib speaker, while the HSC200 has a water resistant speaker housing with 12.4mm speakers for more dynamic sound.

Generally when we catch photos and details on new products via the FCC the things are seen in maybe one blurry shot like we had with the Griffin PartyDock not long ago. The FCC has been at work on the iPod touch for it to get the certifications to hit stores in the coming weeks.

The FCC has taken the new iPod touch that was unveiled yesterday, torn the gadget into pieces, and filmed the whole thing. This is something rather new that I haven’t seen the FCC do very often with the complete teardown. We usually have to wait until iFixit and other sites like it get the gadgets to see a teardown.

It isn’t really a surprise, but Apple has announced iTunes 10, complete with a brand new logo. The standout feature of iTunes 10 is Ping. Think a music-centered social network like Last.fm.

It will let you get your social fix by following people, even artists, establishing a “circle of friends,” do the whole comment thing, check out custom song and album charts, and find over 17,000 concert listings. Ping is also making the jump to the iPhone and iPod touch, and it’s available with iTunes 10 today.

With all of the news at today’s event, you didn’t think that the iPod Touch would get away unscathed did you? The new iPod touch now includes the Retina Display from the iPhone 4, an Apple A4 core, 3-axis gyroscope, Game Center, and FaceTime support thanks to the addition of a front cam.

Pretty sweet huh? It also has a rear cam that is capable of HD video. $229 gets you the 8GB version, $299 for the 32GB, and $399 for 64GB.

So another thing that Apple is showing off today is iOS 4.2, which will be everything iOS 4.1 is, plus some iPad-specific extras.

The most interesting thing here is AirPlay, Apple’s redub for AirTunes, with the addition of being able to stream music and video from your computer to your i-device over WiFi. You can expect that Apple will launch iOS 4.2 for iPad, iPhone and iPod touch devices in November.

Apple has announced iOS 4.1, which has several important bug fixes and some other interesting additions. There are fixes for the proximinity sensor issue, Bluetooth, and also improvements to iPhone 3G performance.

Some of the new features include High Dynamic Range photos, HD video uploads over WiFi, TV show rentals and a Game Center. High Dynamic Range photos will take a pic that actually takes three separate photos, one with highlights, shadows, and midranges. It combines them together to make HDR photos, which have more detail and depth.

Keeping gadgets like the iPad and iPhone charged up when there are multiple devices in the same house can be a challenge. We have four Apple devices in our house and we only have one charge cable plugged in. We end up jockeying the devices around for charging and that gets to be a pain.

A new dock from PhotoFast has surfaced that is perfect for people with multiple Apple devices. The dock is called the iPADock and has two slots that can support up to four iPhones or iPods for charging. A single slot can also support one iPad as well.

Apple has had it’s share of problems lately and now an Apple supply manager has been arrested, accused of taking more than $1 million in kickbacks from suppliers of accessories for the iPhone and iPod.

Paul Shin Devine allegedly used his position at Apple to supply about half a dozen Asian suppliers with information which put them in a better position to receive Apple contracts. Devine allegedly used several foreign bank accounts and a false company called ‘CPK Engineering’ to process the payments, and he is now in the custody of US Marshalls.

Yesterday we saw some images of what is supposed to be an iPhone touch 4 mockup and case surface. Today we see some new shots of what it supposed to be the screen for the next iPod touch.

The images come from MacRumors and the site claims to have received the images from an Apple supplier. The screen clearly shows the hole needed for a front facing camera.

Pictures of a so-called protective case for the upcoming iPod touch have surfaced, and if they’re on the level, it would seem to confirm that the next-generation iPod touch will sport a camera, and maybe a built-in flash too, like the iPhone 4.

Take this with a grain of salt. Until Apple confirms it, nothing is certain, but remember that we’ve heard talk of a camera on the iPod touch before. Several times in fact.

Things are looking great for Android. Google chief Eric Schmidt must have been feeling elated when he revealed that his company is now activating 200,000 Android phones a day. That number is 25 percent higher than the 160,000 per day from late June and is double the 100,000 phones that were being switched on just three months ago. People really love them some Android.

Schmidt said he wasn’t sure how long it would continue. He isn’t concerned about the free licensing hurting revenue since many Android owners run Google searches that pop up ads and generate revenue from impressions and click-throughs. He noted that iPhone owners also make money for Google that way.

Word on the street is that there will be a revised set of Apple devices coming soon (as if that’s a surprise), specifically an iPod shuffle with a touchscreen display, a 7″ iPad for early next year, and a fifth generation iPhone as early as next January.

We would guess that the 7″ iPad is the focus, since it would make the device all the more appealing in a smaller form factor. Time will tell what the items will be, but at least we know that there are always more Apple products falling from the tree.

BlackBerrys and iPhones are so last week. The American consumer has voted with his wallet and it turns out that Android is his favorite OS of the last quarter. NPD has just announced their findings for Q2 2010 and they conclude that 33 percent of phones sold during the period had Android on board as the OS.

This is the first time, since 2007, that RIM has not been in the lead for most purchased smartphone OS in the US. BlackBerrys accounted for 28% of the market and Apple’s iPhone is third with 22%. Motorola and HTC are the two big reasons for Android’s soaring ascent.
