Verizon pastes iPhone map screen on Droid X ad

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on November 30th, 2010

It’s a little embarrassing to be Verizon today after they have inadvertently embarrassed Motorola themselves through a holiday promo. An ad to promote the Droid X’s voice-guided Google Maps is using a digitally inserted screen cap of the Maps app from the iPhone instead, which not only runs on a rival platform to Android but was written by Apple itself. Oops.

It might not be such a big deal, but this puts Apple on a device that Motorola has repeatedly used in successful anti-iPhone ads. Accidents do happen, but this one should have been caught.

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on November 30th, 2010

MicroVision’s latest offering is an all new pico laser projector called the MicroVision SHOWWX+ that’s designed just for Apple gear. iPhone and iPad users will now be able to view their screens in a 100-inch frame with 15 lumens of video at a 5,000:1 contrast ratio.

The projector can run for up to 2 hours on a full battery, which is a bit disappointing. You won’t be watching long movies I guess. It comes with a connector for Apple devices and a price tag of $450.

Find your Android/BlackBerry phone for free with iTag

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on November 29th, 2010

Apple is offering their Find My iPhone service for free now, but that doesn’t mean that Android and BlackBerry users are left out in the cold. That’s because iTag is offering their Premium Membership for free for Cyber Monday.

iTag allows you to locate your device via GPS at any moment. The feature is already available for free to users, but the premium account allows you to backup your contacts over the air, which is very useful if you lose your device without backing up your data first.

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on November 22nd, 2010

That’s the word on the street. That Apple will be launching an iPad 2 next April. Of course we all knew that Apple wasn’t going to stop with just one iPad. Analyst Brian Marshall of Gleacher thinks that the iPad 2 will be coming out once the CDMA version of the iPhone hits the market.

The rumor can be traced to Digitimes, who says that Apple has commissioned several companies to roll out high density interconnect boards for the device. We know it’s coming and right now April seems like a good bet.

Destroyed Apple Products

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on November 19th, 2010

There’s something beautiful about a destroyed Apple product. Michael Tompert and photographer Paul Fairchild must think so too since they thought it would be a good idea to destroy a range of Apple products, and they photograph them.

Some of the products used include and iPad and iPhone. I guess it really compliments the product if it is beautiful both intact and destroyed. You can see the rest of the photos of the destroyed Apple products over at Fubiz.

Official Google Voice finally reaches the iPhone

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on November 16th, 2010

After a very long delay, Apple has posted Google Voice for the iPhone. It’s free in the App Store. The app lets users make outbound calls using a Google Voice number at its reduced rates and also supports free outbound messages. You can also check texts and voicemail with push notifications when they come in while the app is closed.

The app needs a Google Voice account of course. This comes after more than a year of controversy over its appropriateness for the store. Apple says that it never rejected the app but had let the title languish for months even after an FCC investigation. But it’s here now.

HyperMac will now be called HyperJuice

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on November 1st, 2010

You might remember that HyperMac had some problems with Apple, when Apple wanted them to stop selling their MacBook charging cables and car chargers. Well, the ruling was in the latter’s favor. So Hypermac will now be known as “HyperJuice” instead.

Somehow we don’t think that the rebranding will help them stay out of trouble with Apple.

That leaves the black iPhone 4 all alone. And no, there isn’t a placeholder for the item. This may be a sign that the white iPhone 4 has in fact been canceled. We’ll keep you posted if we learn more on the matter.

Apple cancels white iPhone 4?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on October 27th, 2010

The saga of the White iPhone 4 continues. Last night Apple announced that the company would further delay the release of the white iPhone 4 and now some additional information points toward the fact that Apple actually has no plans to roll out a white version of the iPhone 4.

The “delay” might actually suggest an iPhone 5 release time-frame of June or July 2011. Of course, no one knows for sure. I guess there’s always Colorware standing by to spruce up your device.

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on October 18th, 2010

NOOSY China is an unauthorized third-party Apple accessory manufacturer who has come up with a HDMI adapter for the iPad, iPhone and iPod touch (4G). It will allow you to output the display of your device to your larger HD display.

However it isn’t clear if the adapter will support audio over HDMI or not. We also aren’t sure if it supports DRM protected content over HDMI, but the site shows images of Star Trek on the iPad and on a connected TV so there ya go.

White iPhone 4 spotted in New York

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on October 16th, 2010

The guys over at Pocket-Lint caught a glimpse of a white iPhone 4 which was being used by a mysterious man. They approached the owner and asked how he got his hands on the white iPhone 4 since no one else has managed to do so. He mentioned that Apple’s HQ in Cupertino has plenty of white iPhones, so he had a friend “fix him up” with the model.

We had heard that Apple isn’t too happy with their suppliers when it comes to matching the white color of the phone’s parts, so it will be a while before this issue gets sorted out.
