Wireless iPhone 4 alarm dock does nothing, but looks good doing it

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

See that alarm dock for your iPhone 4? It does nothing at all. Just holds your iPhone 4 and gives it a place to call home while you sleep or do other things. Just sits there like… Well, like a lump of wood. It comes from designer Jonas Damon and is made from beautiful beach wood.

Your iPhone is going to act as your alarm clock either way right? Might as well give it a decent spot to sit in and class up your place. It won’t charge your device, won’t pump out awesome sound, but it does come with a free app to turn your iPhone into one of those clocks with the flipping numbers.

Samsung takes 200K Galaxy S II pre-orders, passes iPhone 4

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 3rd, 2011

Samsung has to be quite happy with the Galaxy S II. The company has taken over 200,000 pre-orders across all three major Korean carriers between Monday of last week and the launch on Friday. 160,000 of these were at the country’s largest carrier, SK Telecom.

It gets even more impressive. The pre-orders passed 10,000 units in the first 29 minutes and doubled that in over an hour. This surpasses iPhone 4 pre-orders last August and sets a new high for Apple to beat.

LG Optimus Big Officially Announced

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2011

After rumors in March about the LG Optimus Big smartphone, LG has just officially introduced the new phone in South Korea. It also appeared in a photo alongside an Apple iPhone, which showed off its “big” status, so the LG Optimus Big has been confirmed as real, with the name LU6800.

Features include a dual-core 1GHz processor, 4.3 inch WVGA display, 5-megapixel autofocus camera, and Android 2.2 OS, which is likely upgradable to Gingerbread. No word yet on if we can expect this device in the US yet.

Photo of ‘iPhone 4S’ with Larger Screen?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 25th, 2011

This photo comes from MIC Gadget and they claim that it could represent the “iPhone 4S”. The image shows a white iPhone 4, or what looks like an iPhone 4, but with a larger display. It could be just a mockup, but at any rate it clearly has a larger display and edge-to-edge glass.

They didn’t say how they got the image either so we have no way to say if this is genuine or not, however it seems like this is a move that Apple would make with the next iPhone. It also closely resembles some leaked renders and images that surfaced earlier in the year. Stay tuned on this one.

Verizon Moves 2 Million iPhones in Two Months

Posted in Verizon by Conner Flynn on April 21st, 2011

It sure helps to have friends in high places. Just ask Verizon who made friends with Apple and then went on to activate 2.2 million iPhones in the first quarter of 2011, the first in which it offered Apple’s phone.

AT&T on the other hand, which had previously had an exclusive on the iPhone in the U.S., activated 3.6 million iPhones during Q1. Remember, Verizon only started selling the phone in February, so their total only spans two months of availability. Verizon must be feeling pretty good right now.

According to some people in the know, Apple’s next-generation iPhone will have a faster processor and will begin shipping in September. Production of the new device will start in July/August and it will be very similar to the iPhone 4.

That’s great news for Apple fans and it still leaves us plenty of time for more rumor and speculation. Put your thinking caps on and start guessing at what we can expect from the iPhone 5.

White iPhone 4 goes live at Three UK

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 18th, 2011

The white iPhone 4 has been a huge pain for Apple and for anyone wanting one. But now it looks like the wait may finally be over. That’s because UK carrier Three has just put up a product page for the white smartphone.

The 32GB version is priced at £159 ($259) on a £35 per month agreement. The first white iPhone 4 handsets will ship on April 20, or this Wednesday. According to the product page at least. Hopefully this will be the end of it and you can hold it in your hands very soon.

iPhone 4 to surpass Nikon D90 as Flickr’s most-used camera

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 18th, 2011

Looks like the iPhone 4 is about to hit another milestone. It will soon be the most popular camera on Flickr. The site’s Camera Finder shows Apple’s phone ready to overtake the Nikon D90 and it has already passed Canon’s EOS 5D Mark II, Rebel T1i, and Rebel XSi.

Flickr notes that the graphs only track shots with metadata identifying the camera and might omit shots from any platform that has had the information omitted. Some editing tools also either have the option to clear out metadata or will do it by default. D90 users and other DSLR users are more likely to use editing tools than iPhone owners and that will certainly skew the results. Still, we don’t doubt the power of the mighty iPhone 4.

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 15th, 2011

Good news for those of you waiting on this snow white phone. It gives everyone something to look at while we are waiting for the iPhone 5 too. So are you buying a white iPhone or will you wait for the new iPhone 5?

JBL AirPlay-Enabled On Air Wireless Speaker System Ships

Posted in Speakers by Conner Flynn on April 11th, 2011

JBL has now started shipping their new On Air Wireless Speaker System which is specially designed for iOS devices. This is among the first AirPlay-enabled speakers capable of streaming iTunes 10 music or Internet radio directly from your computer. We also love that it looks like it belongs in a spaceship cockpit.

This speaker system can use your existing Wi-Fi or Ethernet to connect to your PC or Mac iTunes library and makes the link with Apple’s AirPlay technology. It also sports a small LCD screen so you can see the album artwork and song info when an iOS device is not docked.

Apple confirms glitch with Verizon iPad 2

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on April 10th, 2011

Remember when iPhone owners complained about AT&T’s network and could not wait for the day they could use their Apple devices on Verizon’s network? It wasn’t so long ago. Well, we have iDevices on Verizon now and guess what? It isn’t all it was cracked up to be. The grass always seems greener on the other side.

Verizon iPad 2 users are having reboot problems. Apple calls the number of users with problems “small”, but they have acknowledged the problem after message boards went crazy this week with customers complaining they are having difficultly accessing Verizion Wireless’s 3G data network.

Google pulls GrooveShark music streaming service from Android Market

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on April 7th, 2011

The already controversial GrooveShark music streaming service is not finding it easy with mobile platform vendors. GrooveShark’s mobile music streaming application was already booted out of Apple’s App Store last year, and now they have been booted from Google.

GrooveShark for Android was removed from the Android Market this week. But don’t worry, the GrooveShark for Android application is still available from the company’s website and can be installed on any Android device that allows sideloading. The iPhone version is also available, though only installable on jailbroken devices. It ain’t easy getting your mobile Grooveshark on. It seems there are too many sharks in the water and not enough chum.

Pinball Magic turns your iPhone into a pinball machine

Posted in iPhone by Reuben Drake on March 17th, 2011

Who doesn’t love a game of pinball? Sadly those quarters add up and it can get expensive. Plus Pinball machines take up a lot of space. That’s why we play virtual pinball games on our phones and computer, but this doesn’t equal the same kind of fun.

Pinball Magic won’t give you the same experience as a full-sized pinball machine, but it will give you the experience of playing pinball on a machine designed for tiny people. It will work with a free pinball app that’s available from the Apple App Store, and it works with all iPhone and iPod Touch models that use iOS 3.0 or higher. Just $64.

White iPhone 4 coming in April?

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

According to Concord Securities analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the white iPhone 4 is finally going into mass production this month. The goal is apparently to ship them in April, though the initial run will likely be restricted to GSM models and not include the CDMA version by Verizon. Right now we don’t know of any timeframe for a white CDMA phone.

Apple has promised white models since the iPhone 4′s launch way back in June of 2010. But Apple has had to delay several times and their most recent goal is for a “spring” release. And when the iPad 2 was announced last week, Steve Jobs emphasized that white tablets would be available at the same time as black ones.
