Samsung Galaxy S II hits 3 million pre-orders

Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on May 8th, 2011

Samsung is celebrating tonight as they have announced that they have reached up to three million pre-orders worldwide for its dual-core Android phone by the end of April, when it went on sale in Korea. Orders were expected to only go up like this as the phone reached global scale and peaked at 120 countries.

I’d call that a success. In Samsung’s home country, it sold 120,000 of the phones in the first few days. The company had initially predicted 10 million Galaxy S IIs shipping for the entire year. These numbers will level off, but they help Samsung threaten competitors like Apple.

LG Genesis arriving soon on US Cellular

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 5th, 2011

U.S. Cellular would like to keep this a secret, but that’s not gonna happen. It is out of the bag. They have an Android-based LG handset coming soon. A clam-shell, dual-screen Android. AndroidCentral slipped all of the details.

You can expect Android 2.2, a 1GHz Snapdragon processor, 430MB internal memory/8GB microSD, and 5-megapixel camera. The front/external display is 3.5-inches (480×800) while the internal is just 3.2-inches (480×800). It’s a unique take on a familiar form factor and that should be the appeal. Apparently it will also have Android too, since iReadyGo is looking for six senior Android developers. No word on pricing or availability yet, but we will just wait for the real deal.

Amazon tablet shipping later this year?

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on May 3rd, 2011

Well, we knew that it was on the way, but when will Amazon ship an LCD tablet? That’s the question. And according to DigiTimes, we have our answer. By the second half of 2011. The tablet is said to feature a Fringe Field Switching LCD display and touch panel from E Ink Holdings, the company behind the Kindle’s EPD e-paper displays.

Quanta will apparently be manufacturing the device and production should top out at about 700,000 – 800,000 units per month. Take this with a grain of salt for now. This isn’t confirmed by anyone yet.

LG Revolution Press Shot Spotted

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 1st, 2011

The latest shots of the LG Revolution show a date of May 25, 2011, so we can surmise that Verizon will release it on that day. That is not a new strategy, HTC and Samsung have also used launch or release dates in press image screenshots, and LG has done it before as well. Then again, you never know. Keep your fingers crossed.

The Revolution would be either the second or third 4G LTE phone to be released. The Thunderbolt is already out, the Droid Charge has been delayed and the Droid Bionic has been pushed back too. The Revolution is a single-core device with WVGA resolution, which might make it less attractive to some, but it does include Netflix for Android which is a bonus.
