Spider bike concept is made with airplane tech

Posted in Concepts by Shane McGlaun on June 28th, 2010

I used to work with a guy that was really into bicycling on the highway. He had a bike that was as expensive as many people’s car. The idea was to get as light a bike as possible so you can go faster.

A new bike concept on Yanko Design uses technology from aircraft manufacturing to make it light and strong. The bike is called the spider and is made from square aluminum tubing welded together.

I have spent more time and money on the computer I use for playing games than I care to think about. Computer gaming is an expensive hobby and gamers are often the first in line to buy new gear, even though the stuff they already have is faster than most people have or want.

Galaxy has offered up a few details on its dual-core GTS 250 video card. The NVIDIA-based card has a cool aluminum dual fan cooling solution to keep things chill when playing. Each of the fans is 7cm and are hopefully quiet.

Car Cam Voyager is a Black Box for your car

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on October 4th, 2009

Car Cam Voyager is a Black Box for your carIt would be pretty handy to have a black box for your car, just like airplanes have. That way if you got into an accident, saw a crime being committed or got beaten up by a cop for no good reason, you would have a record of the event.

That’s basically what the Car Cam Voyager does. It acts like a black box. It’s the first video camera for the car that allows you to record what is happening in real time while you’re driving. The device can display captured video on the 2-inch 320×240 screen and can record up to 48 hours of video on the road to a 32GB microSD card.

Guy glues flies to paper airplanes, somewhere PETA cries

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on July 5th, 2009

Some people have strange hobbies. Like this guy who forces innocent flies to carry paper airplanes made out of rolling papers. First he caches the fly and puts it in a plastic bag for safekeeping. Next he makes he plane. Once the plane is done, he “huffs” on the fly several times.(Seemed excessive to us, but to each his own) This is to get the hairs on the flie’s belly to stick to the superglue. Now is it?

After that, creepy dude goes outside with his new airplane toting slave and watches it fly. Other creepiness includes this dude waxing philosophic about that fateful day at Kittyhawk so many years ago. He says he sets them free when he’s done playing with them, but that’s not the same thing as leaving them the hell alone in the first place.

Audi Shark flying car concept

Posted in Automotive by Conner Flynn on March 2nd, 2009

Audi Shark flying car conceptIs it a shark? A submarine? A flying car? All of the above. And it’s the most badass flying car/shark/submarine I’ve ever seen. Kazim Doku’s Shark concept is how he envisions the future of Audi’s design: as a flying car. Design inspirations came from motorcycles and airplanes, and obviously underwater vessels.

Even the interior gets some sporty seats with the cockpit’s sculpture, so you can sit comfortably while flying to work and playing with some buttons etc. Check out a video below. Who needs roads when you can fly in this kind of style?

Vax77 Foldable 77-Key Keyboard

Posted in Musical Instruments by Conner Flynn on December 22nd, 2008

Vax77 Foldable 77-Key KeyboardIn recent years it’s become easier for the musician on the go to be able to travel lighter or save some space in the band’s van. Like the folding guitar, the Vax77 Foldable 77-Key Keyboard will neatly fold up so you can take your show on the road.

Folded in half, it will only take up 23.3″ of space. That’s small enough that you can put it in the front seat of your car or take it with you on an airplane. Some features include a 3.5-inch color LCD display, MIDI in/out and USB 1.1 connections, four pedal inputs and and many synthesizer presets. I don’t see a price, but I expect that portability will cost you.

Mitsubishi XD95U ProjectorAsk most people about projectors and they think of home theater setups, but many professionals use projectors to give presentations for business. This type of user doesn’t care as much about resolution as they do brightness and how compact the projector is.

Mitsubishi has a new projector that just launched called the XD95U that weighs only 3.3 pounds and is smaller than a normal sheet of notebook paper. The small size makes it easy to carry on the bus, train or in an airplane when working on the road.

Icon A5: Your own personal plane
This beauty will cost you $139,000 and it can take off and land on water and/or dry land. The controls are more like a car than an airplane, which should make it easy for you to get around. It’s fold up wings make it easy to store this baby in a garage or even tow it behind your car while on vacation. It has a 32 foot wingspan otherwise. It should be available for sale in 2010.

It’s the ideal vehicle for the traveler of the future. Remember, we were supposed to be flying around in our own planes by now. The plane conforms to the FAA’s new Light Sport Aircraft category, which means that it’s restricted to flying in daylight, under 10,000 feet with a top speed of 140mph. I’m sure it’s a breeze to learn how to fly it, since you can get the Pilot License required to fly it with about 20 hours of flight training. Awesome. I’m gonna go clean the garage.

You are cleared for paper cut takeoff

Electric paper plane launcherThere is a gadget for everything and we have the proof to back up that claim. The Electric Plane Launcher by Willow Tree Toys is the mechanical replacement for your biological throwing arm. This battery operated horizontal launching platform will catapult your paper airplanes up to a whopping 30 miles per hour, fast enough to produce a wave of envy in your rivals. It works by using a motor to spin two plastic wheels around, generating the force needed to push your paper bird of flight out and into the air to soar away from you. It’s like a scaled down version of a fighter catapult on an aircraft carrier, or at least we’re going to pretend it’s like that.

$15.95 will get you one of these along with the title “King of the Office Air Force”.
