Acer recalls 22,000 laptops

You might remember that back in October Acer had to recall some Aspire laptops. Well, now the United States Consumer Product Safety Commission has issued recalls on Acer’s AS3410, AS3410T, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ, and AS3810TZG laptops.

Those are all 13.3″ models. They are being recalled due to bad internal wiring of the microphone. Apparently three incidents of short circuiting have been reported so far, which causes the laptop’s plastic cases to melt. Hopefully not while on your lap.

Acer has unveiled a couple new laptops at CES that are designed to run the new Intel Core i3 and Core i5 processors. Both of the notebooks use the Acer gemstone style with deep colors and rounded edges. The machines also both run Windows 7 Home Premium.

The Aspire AS5740G-6979 has an Intel Core i5-430M CPU and a 15.6-inch 1366 x 768 screen. The machine has 4GB of RAM, ATI HD 5650 RAM, a 500GB HDD and a DVD burner. Other features include a track pad that supports gestures, 802.11N WiFi, Webcam, and a 4400 mAh battery. The machine will sell for $749.99.

Acer goes to the Olympics with special notebooks

acerolympics-sgThis winter Olympics are set to kick off this winter. I can’t imagine what sort of undertaking hosting the Olympic games is. I am sure that it take hoards of computers though. Acer is a worldwide Olympic partner and the company has unveiled some special edition hardware to celebrate.

Acer has special edition Aspire 1810T, Aspire 4810T, and Aspire 1210 notebooks. The machines sport the Acer Olympic logo on the cover and the wrist rest area. Acer also has a special edition G245H LCD that has the Olympic logo on it too.

Acer Aspire One 532 Pine Trail NetbookDetails have come to light regarding a new netbook from Acer, the Acer Aspire One 532. It will be the companies first netbook to feature Intel’s new Pine Trail platform and will feature a 10.1 inch LCD display with a resolution of 1280 x 720, an Intel Atom N540 processor and Intel GMA 3150 graphics.

Other specs include 1GB of RAM, either a 160GB or 250GB hard drive, 10/100 LAN, a 3 cell battery, 0.3 megapixel web cam, 3 USB 2.0 ports, WiFi, VGA out and audio jacks.

Acer aims to be the first with a Chrome OS NetbookThe dual-booting Aspire One was the first Android netbook available. It hasn’t exactly sold like they had hoped, but Acer wants to be first again and see if lightning will strike with Google’s Chrome OS next year.

Acer has actually been developing a Chrome-based netbook since mid-2009, and Chairman, JT Wang tells DigiTimes that he wants it to be the first netbook out there when Chrome OS is released in the second half of 2010. We have a while to wait, but it’s nice to see Acer still not afraid to stray from Microsoft OS’.

On a laptop of this size you would expect an integrated TV tuner, but sadly there is none. As consolation you do get Acer’s touch-capacitive media control interface and surround sound via it’s 5 built-in speakers.

Aspire 1420p tablet looks sexyLook at this guy twisting and posing for the camera. Acer’s Aspire 1420p tablet was caught showing off at a Chinese press event. And yes this sexy beast is coming to the states, according to a rough product page found on Acer’s US site.

It looks like it packs an 11.6-inch LED-backlit multitouch screen with WXGA resolution, an Intel Celeron processor with integrated graphics, up to 8GB RAM and 320GB HDD, 802.11b/g/Draft-N, Bluetooth, a multi-card reader, webcam, and optional 3G.

Acer goes official with Aspire 5738-6165 3D notebook

acer3dnotebook-sgWe spied the Acer Aspire 5738DG online a few days back and today the notebook has gone official. The special thing about the new machine is that it is the first notebook from Acer to support 3D content. The machine turns normal 2D content into 3D.

The special notebook has a TriDef 3D screen measuring 15.6-inch wide. The resolution is 1366 x 768 and the panel has 220nit brightness. Graphics for the machine are via ATI HD 4570 with 512MB of VRAM. Acer uses Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit for the OS.

aceraspirerevo-sbAcer has announced that its AspireRevo is now available in America. The AspireRevo is a great little nettop that is designed to mount behind a TV or LCD screen making a slick little HTPC machine. The little nettop sells for $329.99.

For the money, you get some nice specs including graphics via NVIDIA Ion. That means that the nettop can support full 1080p HD video and play casual 3D games. The machine uses the Intel Atom 330 dual-core processor.

Acer unveils the Aspire Z5610 AIO computer

acerz5610-sbEvery time I look around there is a new netbook computer being unveiled or a low cost notebook, which is what the masses want thanks to the poor economy. There is a building demand for other types of computers as well like the all-in-one desktop and Acer has unveiled its latest AIO called the Z5610.

The machine will run Windows 7 Home Premium and uses the Touch Pack for Windows 7 for its 23-inch multi-touch LCD. The fact that the machine runs Windows 7 means it should ship sometime after October 22.

Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ 11.6" NotebookAcer has announced the Acer Aspire Timeline AS1810TZ notebook which sports an 11.6″ screen with an HD resolution and is LED backlit. This one has a full sized keyboard and delivers up to 8 hours of battery life on a single charge.

This notebook is just one of several announced by Acer, but this model is the thinnest and lightest, weighing just 3.08 pounds. This notebook will launch on October 22 with Windows 7 installed for $599.

Acer Aspire 5738DG 3D notebook launchedOh goodness, the silly 3D craze continues. Now Acer has an official 3D notebook. Acer didn’t go the hardware route, instead this relies on a software solution called Acer 3D CineReal, a special 3D coating on the screen, and polarizing glasses. Oh boy.

It comes with the TriDef suite of software containing the TriDef Media Player which will play your movies back in 3D, while TriDef Ignition converts games from 2D to 3D and applications supporting DirectX 9 and above.

acerandroid-1I am not a big fan of alternative OS’; I prefer to use what I know and what my software works with in the form of one flavor or another of Windows. I do admit that Android has my interest piqued and I would like to play with the OS a bit. If you feel the same way, the Acer Aspire One with Android and Windows XP is available for pre-order now.

Amazon.com is offering the netbook for pre-order at $349.99 with free shipping. That is a great price considering the machines has both Android and Windows. Other specs include a 10.1-inch screen, Intel Atom N280 processor, 1GB of RAM, and a 160GB HDD.

Acer recalls some Aspire laptopsHave you recently purchased an Acer Aspire laptop? If so, you may be interested to know that Acer has issued a product recall for certain models. Some of the laptops have a microphone cable on the left hand side, under the palm rest, which may overheat when extreme pressure is applied.

The models in question include the Aspire models AS3410, AS3810T, AS3810TG, AS3810TZ and AS3810TZG which were manufactured before September 15th 2009. Hit up the link for more details to see what you should do if you have one.
