Pentax unveils GPS add-on for DSLR cameras

Posted in Pentax by Conner Flynn on June 5th, 2011

The O-GPS1 is a GPS unit that allows geotagging of images. It attaches to your camera and allows the camera to add latitude, longitude, altitude, UTC capture time and direction as image metadata. Then you can use the data to place images in mapping software like Google Earth or just use it to organize your files.

If you own the K-5 and K-r models, you can use the ‘Astrotracer’ feature which predicts the movement of celestial objects and uses the sensor shift mechanism to track the movement to give astrophotographs with single points, rather than star-trails. Stargazers will love this feature.

Acer Media Remote visits the FCC

Posted in Acer by Conner Flynn on March 9th, 2011

The Acer Media Remote is a compact touch device to control media playback. It has all of the usual functions like Play/Pause, Forward/Back, Volume, Mute etc. And it can also be used as a trackpad, to move your mouse cursor. If you use a PC as a Media Center in the living room this is a good thing.

The RMTP-S1Q connects to PC via an RF dongle and has a range of 8 to 10 meters. It also has a rechargeable battery as well, so you don’t have to mess with AA batteries and the controls are still visible when it is off.

dellmini10-sbOver in Europe subsidized price notebooks and netbooks are very common with most of the major mobile providers offering all sorts of notebooks to users at discount prices. The caveat is that you have to sign away years of your mobile broadband freedom to get the deals.

Subsidized notebooks and netbooks aren’t that common here in the U.S., but they are starting to gain in popularity. SNES PC mod

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on June 11th, 2009

SNES PC modThis casemod combines the shell of an old SNES console with the brains and guts of a modern PC. Anytime we see a CD sticking out of an SNES cartridge, we can’t help but smile. Modders quangDX and DuPPs took an old Super Nintendo and merged it with an Acer Aspire One A150 laptop. They call their new creation the aaSNES1.

And yes, they managed to mount a slot-loading DVDRW drive inside of the Super Mario World cartridge! But it wasn’t that simple. They didn’t have enough room inside the UK model SNES cartridge, but managed to cut things apart enough to get the drive to work. The eject button even ejects the DVD.
