Apple admits to some faulty Touches

Posted in Apple,News,iPod Touch by Darrin Olson on September 22nd, 2007

Apple admits that some of the new iPod Touches were shipped with faulty display screensIn response to complaints about dark screens on the new Apple iPod Touch the company admitted last week that some of the screens that left manufacturing facilities were defective, and Apple is looking for a way to remedy the situation.

According to reports from various blogs and Apples own iPod Touch discussion board, the screens on the new 16GB iPods from various weeks of production have a darker than normal display, and with some darker video scenes are almost unwatchable. Since these issues weren’t as notable with the original iPhone it brings up suspicions that the new Touches were designed with a possibly inferior, or at least different, display than the iPhone.

McDonalds partners with Telecom Korea to offer ordering food through mobile phonesWe all know that fast food is unhealthy for you but that isn’t stopping a lot of us from grabbing a quick burger and fries to go for a lunchtime treat. The one thing that could make it easier to swallow is not having to stand in line to grab your meal, which is something that McDonald’s is trying out in South Korea right now.

The burger giant has partnered with Telecom Korea on a new system that lets customers place their meal order via their mobile phone. Located at each table in the restaurant is a RFID reader and a menu with built-in RFID chips. The customer with the Big Mac attack then inserts the reader into their phone, looks at the menu, orders what they want and then the store will send back a phone message when your order is ready for pick-up. You don’t even need to worry about paying at the counter since the bill will appear on your phone statement.

nX6000 Bluetooth Headset Reviewed

Posted in Bluetooth,Headsets,Review by Reuben Drake on September 9th, 2007

CellPoint nX6000 Bluetooth headset is small, easy to use and has excellent noise cancellationCellPoint has recently acquired a couple of Bluetooth headset product lines from Gennum, one of which is called the nX6000 and we recently had the opportunity to review it here at the ‘Brick. This model wasn’t Gennum’s first crack at the mobile headset market. Prior to this version was the nXZEN PLUS 5500 and in our opinion they’ve done quite a nice job with improving the look while still maintaining a very quality product.

There are a few main features of the nX6000 that are important to point out, which are also key things we look for when choosing a good headset, the first of these being its size. This device measures only 1.75 x 0.8 x 0.5 inches and weighs a mere 0.38 ounces making it a feasible solution for multiple continuous hours of comfortable use. It comes packaged with 3 different sizes of ear tips and 2 different sized ear hooks. The ear tips are designed to fit slightly inside your ear which makes a much clearer sound and helps keep the device in place. Some headsets that do not do this will flop around when the wearer moves their head, making a loose feel. Even with glasses the device was easy to wear and fit comfortably.

BT Baby Monitor connects to an MP3 player, records voice and has a timer alertThe BT Baby Monitor 150 is set up with some advanced features not typically found in a standard monitor that actually seem fairly practical.

For starters the 150 is able to connect to your MP3 player and play back Hi-DS music, so you can download your infants favorite songs and play them through the monitor. Owners can also record their voice into the baby’s unit to play back at a later time giving the baby the familiar sound of your voice without having to get out of bed. If you do end up waking up the parent unit has a “talk back” feature that basically turns the monitor into a two-way radio, letting you talk to the monitor from the remote unit.
