A stylish new JVC home theater system is coming in May for around $600 that will fit the need of urban loft dwellers. It is called the NX-T10.

The NX-T10 is a 2.1 channel system which can be hung on a wall or placed on a table. It consists of a low-profile main unit, two compact omni-directional main speakers and a powered subwoofer. The speakers can be hung on the wall as well.

I know what you’re thinking. That this would be large than your current wallet and make you sit all unlevel, like having George Costanza’s huge wallet. But who cares? This is an awesome geek wallet. We’ve seen a lot os SNES cartridge mods, but this is a first.

The SNES cartridge has been modded to hold a photo ID on the front, but it has also been gutted like a fish and outfitted with a hinge so that you have storage space on the inside. If that isn’t enough, it has an LED that can be turned on and off. It also plays game music and noises. Crazy, right? If you are just aching to hide your cash in one, you can build one of your very own.

Windows Vista and its many flavors are looked on with disdain by many and pointed to as one of the reasons Apple is posting record growth despite the poor economy. Despite that, many people still use Vista and may be looking to upgrade from Windows XP to Vista.

For those looking to upgrade Microsoft has announced that it is now offering Windows Vista Ultimate in a (RED) version that includes some exclusive additions. The downside is that the new exclusive content doesn’t make Vista any more useful or stable.

One thing that many projectors have in common is large size, high cost, and long startup/shut down times. The startup and shutdown times can be a big hassle if you are in a hurry to get a presentation or movie going or in a hurry to get home after a big presentation is done.

Sanyo has introduced a new projector called the PLC-XW57 that is very portable with dimensions of (W x H x D) 13-inches x 3.15-inches x 9.3-inches and weighs 6.4 pounds. Despite the smaller size of the projector, it has 2000 lumens of brightness and a 1.2x optical zoom short throw lens. Fast start up allows the projector to work with a cold bulb and users don’t have to wait for the bulb to cool at shutdown.

Every time I buy something online, I worry about the safety of my credit card information. Many feel the same way and one of the things needed to make consumers more comfortable is additional security for credit card transactions.

Gemalto has announced what it calls the world’s first optical reader for online banking that is sized to store inside the wallet of users. The small credit-card size optical reader means that customers can have the reader on them at all times.

Kensington has itself today some new accessories for notebook, iPhone and iPod users. A small range of devices prices between around $30 and $60 and should all be available at retail by the end of this month.

I’m still not sure what to make of this, but apparently there is some new miracle heater called the Heat Surge. It’s Chinese technology that you just plug into any standard wall outlet. Supposedly it only uses about as much energy to run, as a standard coffee maker, but will produce 5,119 BTU’s as on-board heat turbine silently forces hot air out into the room so you feel heat instantly. It has a UL listing and everything. Even if all that is true, the odd part is that those anti-tech, iPhone shunning Amish are busy as Christmas elves building mantles for these heaters, trying to keep up with demand so that customers can get their new fake fireplace before Christmas. If you ordered a mantle in the last 48 hours, the heater was thrown in for free. But now it will cost you from $249.00 to $337.00.

This is all centered around the Heat Surge Roll-N-Glow fireplace that actally rolls from room to room. How the Amish got involved in this I have no idea, but I do know that as they slave away on fireplace mantles, barns are going un-built, shunnings and exiles seem few and far between. What’s next? Will they trade in the horse and buggy for a Model T? It all seems like some sci-fi plot, where huge events are foreshadowed by strange behavior. What are they really doing? What happens when we take these heaters into our homes? Could this be the long dreaded Amish invasion that some of us have feared, where they turn the tables and take our technology, leaving us to plow fields and milk cows? Will I punished by our new masters for writing this? Probably not, since they have no internetz. Still I’m growing an old man beard and wearing plain clothes…just in case.

I like watching video on my iPhone when I am out of the house and need something to do to kill a few minutes. The catch is that every time I watch a video my kids want to watch too and I end up having to hold the phone far enough away that everyone can watch. Putting the iPhone flat on a table doesn’t work well.

We’ve covered our share of Batman related gadgets, some good, some bad. But lately gadget makers seem to have rediscovered a long lost love for the Bat-Signal. They’re putting it on everything as if it were just invented in the latest movies. This strange looking clock is no exception.

It used to be that a portable hard drive had to be plugged into the wall AC outlet to be able to operate. Over time, some smaller capacity hard drives could be powered by the USB port totally, making them much more portable. Today even some larger capacity portable drives are powered by the USB port.

Memorex announced its new line of portable hard drives today that are completely USB powered. The line is called the Memorex Essential TravelDrive. All of the drives are 2.5-inch and are compatible with both Mac and PC systems and backup software is included with the drives.

Samsung had a little mid-year coming out party yesterday as it unveiled a bunch of new flat panels and associated home theater gear. One of these upcoming releases is the new Series 8 850 and Series 8 860 LCD HDTVs, pricing between around $2,700 and $3,500.

Four models make up the Series 8 850 and 860, consisting of two each 45.9- and 52-inch televisions. All units will be available in September and unique features include a slim, narrow bezel with a touch of color around the edges and support for RSS feeds from USA Today. Another 802.11n wireless router is set to debut from the networking folks over at D-Link. This one is the D-Link DIR-628 and it will price somewhat cheaply at around $120.

The D-Link DIR-628 offers dual band 802.11n Wi-Fi technology with selectable 2.4GHz or 5GHz connectivity options, according to D-Link. D-Link has also built into this router technology which will supposedly prioritize network traffic so items like VoIP phone calls get the most bandwidth.
