Mini USB Lightsabres for tiny duels

Mini USB Lightsabres for tiny duelsThe manufacturer claims that this $45 Star Wars USB Lightsabre is a lamp that connects to the USB port to charge up its battery and glows in the dark with a blue light, is “a lamp”. At 33 x 6cm, that’s not much of a lamp. It’s a toy, plain and simple. Jedis are shrunk down to tiny proportions and put into a ring for an all out death match, where they use these babies to slash each other to bits. I’m not entirely sold on the fact that such a small lightsaber can be fun for my desk, but since it glows and all, it must be true.

Logitech Speed Force Wireless racing wheel for Wii announced

Posted in Logitech by Shane McGlaun on August 21st, 2008

Logitech Speed Force WirelessThere’s no denying that playing the Nintendo Wii is very fun with its unique control method. The one thing I don’t like playing on the Wii is driving games. I don’t care for steering the vehicle with the Wii remote turned sideways. I have wished for a real steering wheel on more than one occasion and Logitech has finally made my wish come true.

Logitech has announced the first force feedback wheel ever for the Nintendo Wii. The racing wheel is called the Logitech Speed Force Wireless racing wheel and is licensed by Nintendo. The wheel is easy to set up and store thanks to one-piece design that does not use pedals. Controls for brake and throttle are located on the wheel. Logitech equipped the wheel with an expandable lap rest that allows you to play while sitting on a chair or couch.

The Swing: USB hub gets classyUSB hubs being the neccessity they are, it’s always nice to see one that looks like it could class up the joint. And this one really is a nice bit of architecture. They merged a Newton’s Cradle with a USB hub. The Boynq Swing gracefully suspends four USB cables underneath an arch. It just sits and waits and looks classy.

Aside from it’s awesome design, it’s pretty much your typical USB hub, sporting DC power for multiple high-powered USB devices and fuses to protect against power surges. It’s got a sweet look and I hope other hub designers are taking note. We’d like to see more like this.

Yang Ying digital camera balances light & dark side

Yang Ying digital camera balances light & dark sideThere really isn’t a lot of info about this camera, but obviously it stands out from the pack by offering to balance the light against the dark side of the force in one handy camera. It will likely get you in your zen place as you do the whole tourist thing. One half houses the lens and LCD screen, the other apparently holds the flash memory and a USB port.

You see? Life’s delicate balance in a camera. The trigger is in front so it would be like using an older camera. We’d love to see this concept become reality, but we’re not sure the world is ready for such perfect harmony. It would surely heal and bring us together, much like the black and white cookie.

Zonet mouse pad with USB hub & microphone

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on August 18th, 2008

Zone mouse pad with USB hub & microphoneFor most of us a mouse pad is just a thing piece of material that we roll our mouse along. That’s really all a mouse pad is good for. But it becomes a lot more useful when you add a usb hub and a mic. Which is exactly what Zonet has done with the The Zone ZUP8020 Multifunctional Mouse Pad.

It makes sense as it combines some key peripherals to save you desk space. It sports a four port USB 2.0 hub, integrated stereo speakers, built-in microphone and built-in audio in and out ports. It’s a bit thick for a mouse pad, but maybe this will add some spice to your mouse area. If the design were thinner I think it would be a winner. Only $20.
