Radioactive usb sheep, with goggles

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on September 13th, 2008

Radioactive usb sheep, with gogglesIt takes a special kind of nerd to have a glowing radioactive USB sheep on his desk. One who wears goggles even. It’s based on the Seamour Sheep comic series, which follows the misadventures of Seamour and presumably his…sheep. Just plug this little guy into your USB port, dim the lights, and enjoy the smooth soft hues of a glowing electric sheep. Much like these animals, the placing of his USB cord seems unfortunate, but at least no farmer is backing him to the edge of a cliff. You can own one of these limited edition of 500 radioactive sheep for $69. Seems expensive for a glowing sheep, but what do I know?

Cat’s Paw USB flash drive

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on September 11th, 2008

Cat’s Paw USB flash driveOn the sickeningly cute side of USB flash drives come these Cat’s Paw drives. The Cat’s Paw USB flash drive comes in just one memory size, 2GB, but on the other paw hand you can choose from blue, black and white colors.

The price is a steep $61.38, but maybe it could be your new lucky charm. Sort of a modern day rabbit’s foot that holds data and occasionally grants wishes. It should be noted that if you have actual cats, they’re going to wonder who lost a paw and if they are next. I like to think that the white/pink one is a limited edition of four that they acquired after holding Hello Kitty down in a butcher’s shop, but that’s just me.

Scantoaster puts the Internet onto your bread

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on September 11th, 2008

Scantoaster puts the Internet onto your breadWhen you think about it, it’s kind of weird that toast is such a hugely popular food. I mean it’s basically burnt bread that’s ready to crumble in your hands. What’s weirder are all the new ways we’ve found to enjoy toast. We can even make it in our PC’s and decorate it with a frakken cylon. The Scan Toaster printer concept takes it all a step further, from designer Sung Bae Chang.

Details are a bit thin, but it connects to the internet via USB and can print images or text on bread using a flexible “module” unit heated by a wire. What it means is that you could read the news on the very breakfast that you eat. The Scan Toaster concept was a finalist in the 2008 Electrolux Design Lab competition. Sadly, it may be awhile before it hits the kitchen.

StellarWindow lets you stargaze with USB

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2008

StellarWindow lets you stargaze with USBStellarWindow comes from students in Japan and consists of software and a USB dongle, to assist those who love to gaze out at the night sky. It will give you all of the names and stars in all of the constellations. Because hey, you like to look, but you probably don’t know everything. The software works with the USB dongle that has a built-in compass and tilt sensor.

When the software is installed and the USB dongle connected, the dongle will figure out where you are and can point to things in the sky at your location. The software also sports built-in voice recognition so you can ask it to find certain celestial bodies. The software isn’t available to buy just yet, but the students have formed a company and they plan to release the StellarWindow software sometime this year for about $244. Seems a tad expensive, but if you really love stargazing, I imagine it’s A LOT cheaper then your telescope.

Thumb drive/bottle opener is actually useful

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2008

Thumb drive/bottle opener is actually usefulCompleting the USB flash drive trifeca for this evening is the TrekStor drive/bottle opener. Since you already have a USB drive and you probably already have a bottle opener, why not combine the two? How many times have you found yourself opening bottle after bottle, getting blitzed while moving data around? More times then you can remember since it’s all a foggy haze.

It can store between 1GB and 16GB of data. Use it as a keychain and you’ll always have your data with you and never be thirsty. It’s not even a bad looking drive. Of course after a few beers everything is better looking, isn’t it? It will cost you about $10 when it’s released next month.

Evangelion USB Flash Drive

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2008

Evangelion USB Flash DriveFans of Japanese manga Evangelion will love this USB flash drive inspired by the series so much that they’ll toss their old flash drives aside. Then there are those who will keep it in the box and preserve it like an Egyptian mummy in the hopes that it is a collector’s item that will make them rich one day. Dream big my geek friends. Dream big. When was the last time you heard someone say, “I’m so glad I kept that USB drive in the box. It made me the millionaire I am today.” Whatever the case, the flash drive is designed like the Mecha’s cockpit and will come in 2GB capacities. Just use the damn thing!

USB Flash Drive Finger fresh from crime scene

Posted in USB Flash Drives by Conner Flynn on September 8th, 2008

USB Flash Drive Finger fresh from crime sceneWe’ve told you about the awesome muscle car flash drives from Jasonscreations. This is another one of his works. A bit more morbid, but probably great for Halloween or a gift if you want to give someone the finger. From his Etsy shop: “Each finger is freshly cut and removed from the local morgue (no, not really….well…..maybe) and equipped with 1gig of memory. Now, you can finally give that geek in your life “The Finger”. Hot swappable, plug and play, no drivers needed.”

It will definitely get you some attention while you type away at your favorite coffee shop. I wouldn’t leave it lying around unless you’ve told anyone who lives with you beforehand. They might not see the USB part and call the cops.

USB Ladybug mouse is cute, clickable

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on September 7th, 2008

USB Ladybug mouse is cute, clickableYour mouse says a lot about your personality. If you like portability and great design your mouse of choice is probably the arc, while a Baseball fan would love this dorky mouse. Maybe you love the Olympics, but use these Olympic Mascot mice year round.

What I’m saying is that our mice are as varied as we are. What kind of person would use these Ladybug mice from Brando? I’m thinking girls mostly, maybe strange scientist dudes that collect bugs and put holes in the lid. I have no idea, but they look good out in the grass and for $12 you might as well get all buggy. If it doesn’t work out as a mouse you can always mod it to be a desktop Roomba or something.
