Onkyo MHP-UW2 iPod wireless headphones

Posted in iPod Accessories by Conner Flynn on October 9th, 2008

Onkyo MHP-UW2 iPod wireless headphonesHow great was the advent of wireless? Wires suck. Wires trip people, electrocute, strangle unsuspecting users and just generally get in the way. Headphones wires are no exception. The Onkyo MHP-UW2 Bluetooth headphones come with an emitter that attaches to your iPod and broadcasts music for up to 8 hours on a full battery.

Recharging takes 3 hours via conventional AC adaptor or USB. The headphones look pretty cool, but the problem here is the emitter. It’s huge and fugly and kind of offensive, like a ball and chain. Not really wireless. You didn’t buy a small iPod just to make it huge later, now did ya?. In fact, it kinda looks like a pogo stick for your iPod. The price is $200.

Firefly Squid USB flash driveSo you love the ocean. You have everything that Jacques Cousteau has ever done on DVD and you spend all of your spare time in the water cataloging undersea critters, not to mention being in the broadway production of Finding Nemo. So it’s no surprise that a plain old USB flash drive just won’t fit into your life.

This flash drive on the other hand is perfect for your fish-fetish. Apparently the firefly squid is a big deal in Japan. Each spring it comes to the surface for an elaborate mating ritual filled with blue bioluminescence. But I’m sure you knew that already fish-geek. It’s only $70 and holds 2GB. Just don’t set it on your Aquarium sink, it might confuse your fish.

Aptus unveils USB motion control games

Posted in USB by Conner Flynn on October 7th, 2008

Aptus unveils USB motion control gamesLast month we told you about Aptus’ new line of Mini-Motion controllers that will be available for different games. Here’s some more info on the games. The games planned are called Cars of Fury, Hoverboard, and Home Run King. Yeah, they don’t sound all that swell. The skateboarding game comes with a miniature skateboard controller; the car game has a USB car; Hoverboard has a hoverboard etc.

They connect to the PC via USB. In the Cars of Fury game, you race the RC cars around the track and try to blow up the other guys. As far as the Hoverboard game, you’ll be racing in power-tunnels at mach speeds and doing tricks. It all sounds very crappy and just as we thought, it would appear that these are just fancy joysticks with little or no motion control.

DIY Eraser USB flash driveJoining such USB drives as the Aigo and the bottle opener USB drive, here’s another that’s actually useful for more then just holding data. The eraser flash drive. Because sometimes you gotta, you know, erase stuff.

Instructables will show you how to make one, if the one you have now is just too ugly or with a broken case. Then you’ll know the joy of being able to erase whenever your USB drive is near. Assuming you still use a pencil, that is.

Silverstone introduces the carbon fiber Raven gaming mouse

Posted in Computer Components, gaming accessories by Shane McGlaun on October 7th, 2008

Silverstone Raven Gaming MouseI have covered a myriad of gaming mice here over the months and one thing most all gaming mice have in common is that they are all wired. Gamers don’t really want wireless products because of the lag they introduce. A new gaming mouse from a name that computer enthusiasts will probably recognize is now available.

The mouse is called the Silverstone Raven. Raven has adjustable sensitivity from 400 to 3200 DPI and connects to the PC via a USB cord. Adjustments to sensitivity are made with the rotating thumb button on the side. 3200 DPI isn’t as high a resolution you can find in gaming mice, the Razer Lachesis will do 4000 DPI, but 3200 is enough for most gamers.

External hard drive in an NES cartridge case

Posted in External Hard Drives by Conner Flynn on October 6th, 2008

External hard drive in an NES cartridge caseEtsy seller NES Box didn’t like the fugly exterior of their external hard drive, and so did something about it. That something was to drop it in an old NES cartridge case. The cartridge was just the right size, allowing the drive to fit in perfectly.

It’s powered by USB, so you won’t need any external juice. Created by them, it’s a one of a kind item.(Until someone else makes one) So it will cost you $180 if you want one. The only problem with putting things in old NES cases is that it might get lost among your other cartridges if you aren’t careful. Or your friend might borrow it instead of an actual game.
