Why you would want one, we can’t begin to guess. How you interact with it, we don’t want to know. It will cost you $27 if you want this USB-powered speaker. He looks pretty depressing to me. As if he’s begging you to save his dying species.

The Atlona HDAiR Wireless USB-to-VGA/HDMI Adapter launched earlier in the year, but it was missing one crucial ingredient: Audio. Well, now it has audio in this latest incarnation.

It’s the same exact product, but now with audio output in 3.5mm analog and embedded HDMI. The $219 device is available now and is also compatible with both Windows Vista and Windows 7.

It’s been awhile since we’ve seen a truly useful display adapter. Sewell’s latest will come in handy if you need to forcefully push high-def signals through USB. The Minideck USB-to-DVI / VGA / HDMI (video only) adapter uses the DisplayLink DL-195 chip, which gives you support for resolutions as high as 2,048 x 1,152, so 1080p and 1,920 x 1,200 LCD monitors are taken care of.

Pretty cool. And it doesn’t matter if your PC is new or old. Since it doesn’t require a newer Core i7 rig to operate, so your old laptop should be able to handle powering a 24-inch LCD via a standard USB socket.

The price of SSDs keeps coming down and as they get cheaper, they are getting more and more attractive to me. I would like to put one in my work computer to speed things up. The things that I worry about when upgrading a HDD is getting data off the old drive and onto the new one and then what to do with the old HDD after the SSD update is complete.

Imation has unveiled a new SSD Upgrade Kit today that includes an external enclosure for your old drive so you can use it as an external storage device after the upgrade. The enclosure requires no power supply, which means it can be powered by USB.

The economy and slow adoption haven’t been kind to many companies in the wireless USB market. These facts have forced many of the largest out of the market altogether. Long after we first heard of wireless USB, we are finally getting the first HDD to use the tech called the Imation Pro WX.

The drive uses wireless USB connectivity with a 30-foot range. The computer the drive connects to has to use an included dongle for connectivity. Imation claims the wireless connectivity is good for data transfer speeds up to 15MB/sec.

Like it’s predecessor, the new Pogoplug allows for USB drive sharing over the Internet. It’ll cost you $129, has no service fees, takes up to four USB drives, and has Twitter and Facebook integration. It will sync your content with a Mac or PC and let you share and watch movies, listen to music, or view photos directly through the Pogoplug website and on an iPhone.

It also has a drag-and-drop interface and sharing over social media sites like Twitter and Facebook. The only downside is that you are relying on the company staying in business in order to be able to share data.

Over the last few months, there have been several new upgrade hard drives and SSDs that have been announced for notebooks and netbooks. One of the common issues for computer users wanting a larger hard drive is getting the data from their computer over to the new drive.

Apricorn has announced a new upgrade kit called the SATA Wire that is a cable that connects to the SATA SSD or HDD and to your PC USB port. The kit also includes software for Mac and Windows machines to migrate data to the new drive.

BenQ is hitting the e-Book market with the nReader K60. The device has a 6-inch touchscreen e-paper display that uses SiPix Microcup technology to produce a native resolution of 800 x 600 pixels with 167 dots-per-inch and 16 grey scale.

The nReader K60 features 2GB of storage, which will hold roughly 4000 books and if you ned more it’s got a microSD card slot for more storage. Some other features include WiFi, a mini USB port, USB 2.0 port and a 3.5mm audio jack. The K60 supports a variety of file formats including ePub, PDF, TXT, HTML, JPEG, BMP, GIF, PNG, and MP3.

Dell’s thinnest laptop ever still isn’t shipping out to consumers, but at least the Windows 7 machine is now configurable over on Dell’s website. The base price is $1,799 and includes a 1.4GHz Core 2 Duo SU9400 CPU, a 128GB solid state drive, 13.4-inch WLED panel, 2 megapixel camera, 4GB of DDR3 RAM, GS45 integrated graphics, WiFi and a USB Ethernet adapter.

Sadly most of the components are not upgradable, but there are a few upgrades available if you have the money. You’re looking at a December 22nd estimated ship date.

If there is one common truth about external storage solutions it is that you always use more capacity than you think you will. This is especially true of you are the type who produces and consumes lots of digital media. Hitachi has announced several new external storage devices boasting 2TB of space.

The external solutions include the SimpleDrive USB 2.0 storage solution selling for $249.99. It works with both Mac and Windows computers. Hitachi also crammed 2TB of storage inside its SimpleTech line of solutions. The SimpleTech Pro Drive has USB, FireWire 400/800, and eSATA connectivity to go along with its 2TB HDD for $299.99.
