Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on March 23rd, 2011

Do you have trouble getting just the right amount of toothpaste onto your toothbrush? If so, I shudder to think what other simple concepts you have not mastered. But this concept toothbrush can help. The handle is a syringe for your toothpaste.

Basically it makes sure that you always have the right amount. This would be perfect for messy kids who want to squeeze the whole tube onto their brush each time. So this could save you some money in toothpaste. The concept is called the Twist & Brush and comes from Spanish designers Awamura-ganjavian.

Two years later, only 600 products use Amazon’s frustration-free packaging

Posted in Amazon by Conner Flynn on September 12th, 2010

Product packaging is often ridiculous. We all know this. That’s why Amazon introduced Frustration free packaging two years ago. Sadly, only 600 of the millions of products available on Amazon.com have been modified to reflect the simpler packaging needs of online customers.

Why is this? We know that customers love it. When manufacturers switch to more streamlined wrappers their products get a 73% reduction in negative feedback. Amazon is trying to take this message directly to product manufacturers. For instance, Philips recently saw success with downsized packaging for its Essence toothbrush and plans to “expand frustration-free packaging options with Amazon.”

Every hospital I have ever seen used UV light to kill airborne germs, the tech is known to work well. A new gadget has turned up called the UVmini that uses this tech to kill germs on your toothbrush.

Self-standing toothbrush

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on June 23rd, 2010

This self-standing toothbrush concept looks great. Plus it eliminates the need for those tacky toothbrush holders. The DEWS toothbrush, designed by Ryan and Harc, has a nice fat, weighted handle that keeps it upright, even if you try to knock it down.

This is such a great idea I’m surprised it doesn’t exist already. Hopefully someone will make this happen. Now, if it could only automatically dispense toothpaste, it would be perfect.

The 40 Second Electric Toothbrush

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on April 4th, 2010

We’ve never seen a toothbrush like this one before. These Hammacher Schlemmer super toothbrushes promise to clean all of your teeth in just 40 seconds. This bizarre looking device looks like it was designed to brush Predator teeth. It has four heads that will clean the front, back, and chewing surface of your top and bottom teeth all at the same time.

The brushes do their thing 810 times per minute and are mounted on self-adjusting pivoting heads. Sounds like a powerful cleaning. It uses two AA batteries which will give you 60 uses after a full 12-hour charge. It comes with four soft bristle brush heads and a tongue cleaner.

Looking for some multi-function in your Steampunk gun? Then this one is for you? It’s basically a Steampunk Swiss-Army Knife. This steampunk metapen gun is almost as small as the world’s smallest gun as well. It’s made from all the usual materials, brass ,copper, wood and steel.

And it does more than just shoot Victorian-clad villains dead. There’s a fork, knife, spoon, lighter, USB drive, watch, lamp, screwdriver, pipe, toothbrush, sawing blade, nail clipper and two extra mines. Pretty awesome.

Concept toothbrush doesn’t have bristles

Concept toothbrush doesn’t have bristlesFabio Dabori’s sponge-loaded toothbrush acts more like a buffing or waxing machine for your teeth. It kinda makes sense. Bristles can be uncomfortable. And you wouldn’t take a bristled brush to your car finish right? The Giro Sponge concept is an electric teeth cleaner that features a soft, round head that is gentle for babies and grown-ups with sensitive teeth and gums. Apparently Dabori has patents on the idea and is hoping to get it on store shelves soon so you can get a good shine on those pearly whites.

Researchers make brushing your teeth a game

Researchers make brushing your teeth a game
We all know that kids hate brushing their teeth. That’s why since the dawn of time, so many of them end up as toothless seniors. Now there’s a new way to trick them into brushing. Researchers at the National Taiwan University have come up with something which turns brushing your teeth into a webcam-tracked video game.

With an LED toothbrush, a camera mounted above a mirror, and an LCD display, kids can watch plaque and debris get fragged in a cartoon mouth while they scrub. The system tracks three-demensional movement of the child’s hand, covering 24 separate areas of the mouth. Kids who tested the system ended up brushing twice as well as those who hadn’t used it. Check out the video below.

Shake-A-Brush upgrades your toothbrush

Shake-A-Brush
Are you bored with your plain old toothbrush? If so, this should spice up your bathroom time. The Shake-A-Brush electric toothbrush power adapter will turn any regular toothbrush into a motorized one. All you have to do is insert the toothbrush into the adapter and it will vibrate.

Great idea. Now, it probably won’t compare to those Sonic Care Toothbrushes as the bristles still won’t move, but this would be great for those of you still attaching your toothbrush to a cell phone set on vibrate with duct tape. Stop being a cheapskate already and just buy the real deal.

Bristlebot 2.0 computer chip robot

Bristlebot 2.0 computer chip robot
If you want a little robot pet, here’s your ticket. Over at Evil Mad Scientist Laboratories, they created the odd Bristlebot robot using some odd supplies. Namely a battery, a toothbrush head, and a cell phone vibrator. Now, one of the website’s readers has combined those ideas and invented the new chipbot, which is a Bristlebot made from an old computer chip.

You know how geeks are, many of us are more likely to have an old computer chip lying around than a spare slanted toothbrush head. Basically, you just fold the chip’s pins down and slant them forward and follow the old Bristlebot instructions. Before you know it, you’ll have a speedy little geek companion.

Solar-powered toothbrush eliminates toothpaste

Posted in Solar Powered by Chetz on November 28th, 2007

Solar powered toothbrushThis next evolution in the toothbrush will undoubtedly cause much hatred within the Crest and Colgate companies. A Japanese company called Shiken has made a prototype solar-powered toothbrush that would eliminate the need to squeeze out a bit of toothpaste every time you brush your teeth. The Soladey-J3X is a toothbrush that holds a titanium dioxide rod in the brush tip underneath the bristles. When you put the brush into your mouth you get the bristles wet, which also wets the rod which then releases electrons. The electrons then react to the mouth’s natural acid which breaks down the plaque that accumulates from the natural bacteria found inside that hole at the front of your face.

The Soladey Ionic no toothpaste toothbrush

The Soladey Ionic no toothpaste toothbrush

Now here’s an interesting new concept in dental care. Throw out the paste. Instead of using toothpaste, the Soladey Ionic Toothbrush uses energy created from light.(fluorescent tube, light bulb or the good old sun) It converts light into negative ions which when mixed with saliva and water can clean the bacteria from your teeth. This is all thanks to a titanium ionic conducting rod which creates the negative ions. It kills the bacteria and gets rid of bad breath.

I hear ya. What about that minty fresh feeling? Well, I suppose you could keep a tube of toothpaste around just to satisfy your strange craving. Or maybe they could make the bristles on this new brush have a minty flavor.
