Sometimes gadgets make it to market that should have stayed at the concept stage. Such is the case with the really weird looking Avatar 1259B Watch that is available to purchase at Yanko Design.

This is one of the rare concept watches that Yanko shows off that you can actually buy. It uses 12 LED lights on the circular face to show hours, five LEDs show tens of minutes, and nine other LEDs show the minutes.

Plush Tauntaun with frozen Luke Skywalker

Posted in Star Wars by Conner Flynn on May 20th, 2009

Plush Tauntaun with frozen Luke SkywalkerIt’s one of the most classic scenes to ever grace the silver screen. Han Solo goes in search of his buddy Luke. When he finds him, Luke is nearly dead from the cold. So when Han’s Tauntaun kicks the bucket, he slices that sucker open and places Luke inside it’s gooey belly warmth.

Yeah, this is like that, but plush. It’s a plush Tauntaun with frozen Luke Skywalker by Heidi Kenney. Luke can be removed and inserted again into the Tauntaun’s belly, which has a zipper. The Tauntaun will be part of the Stitch Wars exhibit, which will feature everything Star Wars/stitched.

Shinoda flexible display

Posted in Television by Conner Flynn on May 7th, 2009

Shinoda flexible displayThe Shinoda flexible display is a unique display that is capable of High Definition video despite its curved shape. This is possible thanks to its underlying plasma tube (PTA) technology and the intricate stitching of panels together to form a nearly seamless 3:2 display, making it possible to reach the 720p vertical resolution.

The Shinoda flexible weighs just 16 pounds and they are very close to mass producing such panels. So hopefully we will be seeing these in homes very soon.

GTA: Chinatown Wars DS Lite

Posted in Nintendo DS by Conner Flynn on March 19th, 2009

GTA: Chinatown Wars DS LiteEarlier in the week, the Nintendo World Store in New York celebrated the release of Grand Theft Auto: Chinatown Wars for the DS. To honor the occasion, there was a special midnight release party with the usual free stuff and special giveaways.

The above DS Lite was one of those giveaways. And yes, I feel your pain and also wish I was there. Lucky bastitches. Check out the GTA:CTW chopstick styluses, which I’m sure gives Nintendo all kinds of ideas about a game that teaches one how to use them.

Stitch takes a bite out of an LCD Display

Posted in LCD by Conner Flynn on March 8th, 2009

Stitch takes a bite out of an LCD DisplayNothing too cutting edge here, but if you have an unhealthy love of Disney characters and already own the Stitch humidifier, you might consider this Stitch LCD Display.

It’s a 20-incher that features 1680 x 1050 pixels, HDMI, D4, and even a B-CAS card reader. While stitch may be taking a huge bite, he hasn’t taken a bite out of the price, which is around €800. The mouth even opens up and it features stitch’s body clinging to the rear.

Huge remote control gets you off the couch

Posted in Remotes by Conner Flynn on March 6th, 2009

Huge remote control gets you off the couchDo you want a remote that will get you off your butt and help you shed some of those couch potato pounds? Here’s just the thing. Change the channel like playing DDR. Some creative guy with dreams of a huge remote saw an over-sized novelty remote at Brookstone and it was destiny.

He stitcheed together two PS2 Dance Dance Revolution mats, a PS2-to-PC controller converter box, and some homebrew source code. It works, but I think I’ll stick with the palm sized version. This would however be a great preventative device for those people who get so obese that they need a crane to break their wall and take them to the hospital. Video below.

GE unveils waterproof G3WP camera

Posted in GE by Shane McGlaun on March 5th, 2009

GE G3WP CameraSummer is coming and the hot days of lying by the pool and having pool parties will be here very soon. Summer fun usually involves someone with a camera taking pictures. The problem with taking pictures near water is that the average camera can’t get wet.

GE has announced a new digital camera called the G3WP that can not only get wet and survive, but can actually be used under water to depths of 10 feet. Power for the camera comes from an internal rechargeable battery and it has several other features that you expect in a modern point-and-shoot camera.

This is not your grandmother’s sewing machine

Posted in Home by Conner Flynn on December 31st, 2008

This is not your grandmother’s sewing machineWhat with living in 2009, chances are you suck at sewing. It seems like kind of a lost art in a way. And mastering an old sewing machine can be a real pain anyway. With the Brother Quattro 6000D, you’d be a master seamstress. This beast of a sewing machine features a 7-inch HD LCD display and embedded runway lighting. It even goes so far as to have a camera next to the needle, letting you see up close exactly what you’re doing, so you don’t mess up your stitches.

There’s no info on pricing or a release date as of yet, but I think we can safely say that it will cost quite a nice chunk of change. You may want to toil away on your old machine while saving some extra scratch.

Stitch USB Humidifer with bad breath

Posted in Disney by Conner Flynn on November 20th, 2008

Stitch USB Humidifer with bad breathThere must be something in the water over at Disney. Either that or they pass around a crack pipe at meetings, between counting Mickey money and eating bits of Walt Disney’s remaining refrigerated flesh.

First there was the Stitch CD player. Creepy, but harmless really. Now they’re pimping out this $118 USB humidifier that looks like it will kill you with Stitch breath. $118? Really? The Stitch USB Humidifier projects a fog into the air, whether you give him a breath mint or not. Not sure where you pour in the water. Probably his butt. This thing just looks hungry. Hungry enough to kill you.
