The folks over at Yanko Design came across this mysterious miniature vehicle named ROCK. Sure, it looks like Darth Helmet’s head on wheels. Very little is known about the device except the obvious: It is dark and ominous and possibly how cats will take over the world.

It was created by designer Alberico J. Camacho and sports a tiny Nissan logo. That’s Really all we know, but it seems to be some kind of music player, like a more robust Sony Rolly. The ROCK could also be a scale model prototype for a concept car that Camacho worked up for Nissan.

We wish we could say that this came as a surprise, but nope, we kinda figured that the little Rolly was on The way out. The Sony Rolly has been discontinued in the U.S. The good news is if you are located near a SonyStyle store, go check it out to see if they have them in stock. Thy are having a fire sale with a price of $99. That’s $300 off the original price.

Again, this is no big surprise. The Rolly was a $400 dancing egg. You do the math. But we can’t help wondering what Sony will dream up next to take its place. Maybe a little dancing and hopping cube. Think Rubik’s cube meets Disco.

Japanese owners of Sony’s rolly have been able to remote control the device for several months now. Now users in the US will be able to, with the release of Rolly Remote for US owners.

The software and firmware update lets you connect to Rolly wirelessly from a PC, letting you control things like playlist and movements. You can control up to seven at a time, if you wanted to choreograph a rolly musical. Head over to the Sony Support page to get the files.

The rolling egg that fancies itself a robot is back, with an update in the form of the Rolly SEP-50BT. Compared to its predecessor the Rolly SEP-10BT, this new dancing fool has double the memory at 2GB along with Bluetooth. Which means that it can now be controlled from a cellphone, PC etc. It comes bundled with ‘Rolly Remote’, software that lets you control the movement of your Rolly. In fact you can control up to 7 Rolly’s from the PC. The new Rolly will be available in pink and limited edition black for about $350 on November 21 in Japan.

This bot makes Sony’s Rolly look like the lame dancing egg that it is. AMP stands for Automated Music Personality, from Hasbro’s Tiger Electronics and Sega Toys, and it’s here to dance, follow you around with music and look just plain awesome.

It’s got Segway-like legs that dance to the beat of any MP3 player via a 3.5mm jack. Also sports 49 LEDs that shine nicely too, because bots have to have lights. The A.M.P. has touch-sensitive DJ scratching pads and 62 sound effects built in so you can jazz up your songs, and an IR sensor so he will follow you from room to room and keep the music with you at all times.

Everybody’s favorite whacked out, dancing, escape pod looking robot from Sony is finally making its way from Japan to the USA. The small egg-like bot can blast tunes from it’s built-in speakers, move its cute little flippers to the music and spin around. Is it useful? Hell no. And we like it that way.

The bot comes with pre-choreographed routines for songs. (“Also Sprach Zarathustra,” Avril Lavigne’s “Girlfriend”, Earth Wind and Fire’s “Boogie Wonderland”) You can also use the choreography software to create dances for own tunes. The 2GB bot can be had in black or white, and found online or in Sony stores for $400.

Our favorite dancing egg with built-in speaker, the programmable Rolly is getting a special Christmas Packaging in Japan that preloads six classic Christmas songs, including “Silent Night” and “White Christmas.” Not only do you get Christmas tunes, but it comes with special preset dance routines that will match the music. That’s just how the rolly rolls yo!

It ships on December 19th but can be preordered on December 12th by the Japanese. Looks like it will sell for the equivalent of $386 with 1 Gig of memory, which is just a bit higher then the standard edition.

Sony has lifted the veil of secrecy surrounding its musical robotic egg, the Rolly, that we first reported to you a week ago. The 300 gram gizmo is a moving MP3 player that is motion sensitive; give it a spin in one direction and the Rolly’s volume will go up, the other way and the tunes will lower down. Pushing the Rolly forwards, backwards or giving it a shake will allow you to change songs. While it’s moving about the side corners of it will “flap” and a cascade of pretty blue and green lights will undulate from the bottom of the Rolly.

The Sony Rolly is something that’s got a lot of people talking about Sony, which may be the whole point of the device, whether its real or not. This Miuro look-a-like (which interestingly we reported on exactly one year ago), appears to respond to music by rolling and “dancing” around on the floor. From the video it looks football shaped and can move forward or back, turn, spin, has some “wings” that open on the sides like little arms when it dances along with some glowing lights that change color as it moves.

There really isn’t any information about the Rolly available aside from this strange video, which again might be intentional by Sony. Engadget was able to contact at least one Sony representative about the product who neither confirmed nor denied any information about it. They did however say that it had nothing to do with any recent product releases from Sony. Take a look at the video after the jump and see what you think:
