Friiboard gives the Wii Balance Board less balance

Posted in Wii by Conner Flynn on December 3rd, 2009

Friiboard gives the Wii Balance Board less balanceIf you like to skate on fake plastic skateboards and pretend you are skateboarding or snowboarding, the Friiboard should bring more realistic movement to the Wii Balance Board. What it does is give the balance board less balance and more “wobbability”.

The device just adds a convex surface to the bottom of the Balance Board. We don’t think it’s worth $45, but you might feel differently if you need to skateboard in front of the TV.

It’s crafted from genuine maple, and features a “skull” design on the top. It looks…Um…cheap and we sense many broken ankles, despite a set of safety stoppers that are included.

Tony Hawk Ride’s skateboard peripheral will also be available in white

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on July 16th, 2009

Tony Hawk Ride's skateboard Remember the Tony Hawk Ride board? The one with the charcoal color? We thought the color was just fine, and represented boards fairly well. But it seems like the game’s director Josh Tsui doesn’t agree. He told GamesIndustry.biz that it will be launched in a “more consumer friendly… iPod-like” white color.

Are they seriously trying to trick people into thinking that this is a new cooler version of the Wii balance board? C’mon, white? Tsui heaped on a bunch of praise for the peripheral too, calling the board “the most advanced peripheral on the market.”

Microsoft announces "Project Natal" motion controller for Xbox 360The Xbox 360 motion controller is real. Today at E3, Microsoft unveiled the motion controller we’d been hearing about for awhile. The device is codenamed “Natal” and will allow for a very wide range of actions by using a group of sensors.

The accessory will even be capable of handling multiple users during single sessions. The demo Microsoft showed off at E3 included a skateboarding game and a family playing a racing game (tires were changed by the dad while the daughter handled the driving).

Tony Hawk: Ride game gets ship date

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on May 26th, 2009

tonyhawkride-sbWe have talked about the coming Tony Hawk: Ride video game that includes the skateboard controller. I’m not much for real skateboarding, but I might check out the video game. The controller looks pretty slick, assuming it is easier than say controlling a skateboard on a Wii game using the balance board.

GameStop has announced the ship date for the game if you are looking forward to getting your own copy. The game and the skateboard controller will ship on October 13. The big drawback is the bundle is very expensive.

Tony Hawk Ride game includes motion-sensing skateboard controller

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on May 15th, 2009

Tony Hawk RideTony Hawk’s new game will come with a skateboard peripheral so you can do all kinds of amazing tricks. The motion controls are pretty detailed and feature an advanced mode that will allow for in-place 180s, but it doesn’t look like you’ll be lifting the board off the ground.

Grabs are performed by actually grabbing the board as it senses your hand position, and pushing is performed by running your foot along the side of the board. Obviously, ollies and flip tricks are going to be different than the real thing.

iPhone Skateboard Deck

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 23rd, 2009

iPhone Skateboard DeckSince you spend so much time already looking at Apple product screens, why not incorporate the theme into your skateboard? When you wreck you can crack both in half as well as some bones. Only $59.95.

Of course it’s not really cool unless you can actually use it like a real iPhone, controlling it with your feet as you do tricks. And that would call the ambulance super fast.

Pumpboard: A folding, portable Skateboard

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on December 14th, 2008

Pumpboard: A folding, portable SkateboardThis skateboard concept looks great in design and is still portable enough so that you can carry it around. That’s what this Pumpboard concept is offering. It was designed by Maciej Puzon.

The idea behind this one is that the skateboard can be folded and stashed away when you’re not using it. When you need it, just pump it back up. I imagine it might be a bit of a pain to keep folding and then re-pumping your board though. It’s still a concept at this stage, but who knows. It does have good looks if nothing else.

Z-Nano is the world’s smallest Mouse

Posted in Mouse by Conner Flynn on December 10th, 2008

Z-Nano is the world’s smallest MouseThe Z-Nano is truly the world’s smallest mouse. It measures just 42mm (1.65″) x 21mm (0.83″) x 17.65mm (0.69″), it’s not much bigger than it’s attached USB cable or your fingertip. The cable even clips into the mouse itself with a powerful magnet for easy storage.

It even features a slot that you can use to slip in your own tiny photo to personalize the mouse. You’ll need to squint to see it. The world’s smallest mouse will cost you $60 and it will make your hand feel all weird and lonely, while your finger does all the work.

Posted in Games by Shane McGlaun on November 18th, 2008

Shaun White SnowboardingNormally I stick to FPS, Driving/Racing, and the occasion RPG game when it comes time for some gaming action. I don’t usually go for the skateboarding or sports type games. I have seen a few commercials for the new Shaun White Snowboarding title though that makes it look interesting.

Target has announced that its limited edition version of the game is now available to purchase. The Target version has exclusive content not available on versions sold at other stores. Targets exclusive version as additional cut scenes and jibs (whatever a jib is).
