White iPhone 4 by the end of April

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 13th, 2011

We had heard talk of the white iPhone 4 possibly shipping in April and now it looks like we can narrow down the timing thanks to the latest rumor. Both AT&T and Verizon will get the long-delayed and long-awaited white iPhone by the end of the month. Bloomberg stated that the manufacturing issues they were facing were worse than everyone thought and that the original white paint had been peeling when exposed to heat.

Apparently, a sensor was also a problem, according to one tipster. It might have been the proximity sensor on the front, but that isn’t confirmed. So, we will hopefully have an end to the white iPhone saga very soon.

What about pricing? Well, earlier leaks for the UK had the unlocked 3G, 32GB version at £600 ($982). In Germany, the same device costs about the same at 669 Euros ($904).

You can expect the browser to be three times faster than it is in Symbian^3 devices like the N8 and it looks like it will feature a portrait ratio on-screen keyboard instead of making you switch into landscape mode.

We don’t know much about the E6, but it will be the first modern Symbian device with a 4:3 ratio screen and a fixed QWERTY keyboard. It packs a 640×480 resolution screen, and it should have up with 720p video recording along with other modern features.

Is the iPod nano 7 getting it’s camera back?

Posted in iPod Nano by Conner Flynn on April 3rd, 2011

A new image may point to the iPod nano’s seventh generation regaining a camera. The part shows what looks like the current iPod, but with a cutout area that looks designed to fit a camera lens on the back.

If this is anywhere near the final product, it looks like Apple has found a way to include a camera in the touchscreen iPod nano redesign. You might remember that the last tall iPod nano actually had a video camera, but it was dropped in the new version, probably because of size and battery life problems. We don’t know if it will include still photography.

Google Fiber project picks Kansas City for 1Gbps Internet

Posted in Google by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2011

Google has made its pick for the Google Fiber project today and said that it will first roll out the 1Gbps Internet access in Kansas City, Kansas. Good news for folks there. The city was picked from about 1,100 candidates in all. The service should go live in 2012 if the Board of Commissioners signs on.

The project is basically a real-world way to test the future of high speed Internet connections. We need to prepare and a 1Gbps connection has more than enough bandwidth for streaming 3D video and other tasks that lie ahead. More bandwidth opens up a lot of possibilities. Real-time telemedicine, remote education, and perfect quality video conferencing to name a few.

Roku XD media hub arrives at Best Buy

Posted in Media Players by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2011

Roku made a grand entrance onto the retail scene on Wednesday, by landing a deal with Best Buy. The stores will carry the Roku XD both in retail and online. This is the first time one of the company’s networked media hubs will be available at stores across the US without a rebranding.

To refresh your memory, the XD can play 1080p video, supports 802.11n Wi-Fi and has a remote with the instant replay button. It lacks the dual-band Wi-Fi, component video out and USB of the XDS, but both can do Amazon Video, Hulu Plus, Netflix, and live sports from the MLB and NHL.

Nintendo says no 3D on Wii sequel

Posted in Nintendo by Conner Flynn on March 30th, 2011

Nintendo’s US president Reggie Fils-Aime has said that the company’s Wii sequel won’t use 3D. The reason is apparently because glasses-free 3D is very difficult to accomplish for multiple people on a TV, so the future console will most likely be 2D.

While we don’t yet know what the next console has in store for us, it is expected to finally have HD and to get a speed upgrade for more detail. There is no way to know for sure, but we may see it as early as the E3 event in June.

iPad 2 to be available at Radio Shack on Tuesday

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

Thanks to an internal corporate memo, we know that Apple is planning a deal with Radio Shack. About 500 stores US-wide are due to start carrying the iPad 2 on Tuesday, March 29. This is apparently a last-minute plan that had only been agreed upon in the “last few days.”

The company had a much wider launch with the iPad 2 than it had previously. Usually Apple waits until supply shortages have settled down or until it gets closer to the holidays, when the expansion can have a maximum effect. The more aggressive launch is likely due to battling Android tablets like the Motorola Xoom.

LG readying Optimus Big with 4.3-inch Nova display

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on March 28th, 2011

Some leaked images and specs of an upcoming LG handset have been leaked. The handset will feature the same Nova display as the current Optimus Black, but at a larger 4.3 inches. That’s why the phone is being called the LG Optimus Big.

It’s expected to launch at Korea’s U+ provider in April. Some of the leaked specs include a 1GHz single-core CPU and a T-DMB TV tuner, which allows watching over-the-air TV broadcasts. That last feature insures that the handset won’t be coming to other markets. At least not without some major changes.

This year the Google Nexus S arrived from Google and Samsung. So they like to partner up. The latest rumor is that Google is working on its first Nexus-branded tablet with another friend.

According to Mobile Review, Google is working with LG on a Google Nexus Tablet. Of course this tablet will run Google Android 3.0 Honeycomb and it might launch as early as this summer or early in the fall. It is likely that Google would make sure that the tablet would get software updates earlier than third party tablets.
