HTC Paints Legend and Desire in Black and White

We are used to seeing mobile phones available in various colors, but it isn’t often that we see an aluminum-bodied phone offered in a different color. The HTC Legend, which has been available in aluminum silver will soon be available in phantom black across Europe.

It will still be made from aluminum materials. A white model will also be joining it sometime this month. So now you have some color choices and get to keep the aluminum body.

HTC Mondrian shows up in press shots

Looks like we now have the first clear press shots of the HTC Mondrian smartphone, thanks to German site BestBoyz. The Windows Phone 7-powered device had previously only been seen in a Microsoft TV ad before now. The source of the images claims that the Mondrian will be available at a major German provider. Who knows which one.

Some early specs of the Mondrian, which also went by some other alias’ like Schubert and possibly HD7, include a 4.3-inch, 800×480 touchscreen, a 1GHz Snapdragon CPU, a five-megapixel camera with 720p video recording capability and 8GB of built-in storage.

Best Buy launches Free Phone Fridays

Times are tough, so it’s nice when companies give you a break and help your dollar go further. Best Buy is doing just that with a new promotion that will involve sales of smartphones from each US carrier without having to pay a penny, each Friday in October.

The phones do come with the mandatory 2-year contract. It all kicks off on October 1st, with the first free phones on sale being the Samsung Fascinate from Verizon Wireless, the BlackBerry Curve from Sprint, the HTC Aria from AT&T, and the Samsung Gravity 3 from T-Mobile.

Dell Looking Glass Android Tablet caught on video

Dell’s upcoming Looking Glass 7-inch tablet wasn’t showing off in pictures when Michael Dell took it out the other day, but now a video of the event has surfaced, so we now have a better look at this Android device.

We can see a volume rocker on the side of the device, as well as a headphone jack, a possible PDMI connector port (like the Streak), and a switch that might be for rotation or to lock it. The device shows up after 1:27 in the video below.

Verizon LG Vortex spotted with Android 2.2 and Microsoft Bing

While HTC’s Android-powered smartphones come with a bunch of apps from Google, Verizon Wireless’ LG Vortex is taking a different approach. It will go with Microsoft instead. Similar to the Samsung Fascinate, the LG Vortex will ship with Microsoft Bing as the search engine, along with Bing Maps to help you navigate.

Android 2.2 runs on a 600MHz processor, accompanied by an integrated FM radio. Does this chance your mind about wanting the Vortex, or are you cool with Bing?

HTC Mozart Windows Phone 7 specs leaked

More details have now surfaced on the HTC Mozart Windows Phone 7 smartphone. According the tipster, the WP7 phone features a Qualcomm SnapDragon 1Ghz processor, 576MB RAM, 512MB ROM and 8GB internal memory.

The Mozart also features a 3.7-inch WVGA Super LCD touchscreen, an 8 Megapixel camera with Xenon flash, Dolby Mobile, Bluetooth and WiFi. The phone will support dual-band 2100/900 UMTS/HSPA and quad-band GSM/EDGE networks.

The iPad is showing up in so many diverse situations, proving that it really is a great and useful tablet. Well here’s another use. Now you can stick it on the top of a pole! Yes a pole. Why would you do that? Well, there could be many reasons.

The “iStand” comes from Danish designers InSilico. It includes a space for a dock-cable and security bolts to prevent anyone from running off with it easily. It also comes with two apps for CMS (content management), iCatalogue and iMagazine (PDF display). The iStand is aimed at those who spend time browsing things while standing. Like customers looking at in-store catalogs and nightclub doormen, for instance.

Windows Phone 7 appears in Rachel Zoe commercial

Looks like Microsoft has teamed up with Rachel Zoe. The company has launched a Windows Phone 7 commercial based on the hit Bravo series The Rachel Zone Project. Rachel Zoe has always been a fan of RIM’s BlackBerry, but her husband Rodger Berman shows off his Samsung Omnia prototype running a Bing utility on Windows Phone 7.

As Windows Phone 7 gets closer to its launch time-frame, several leaks and official confirmations suggest that customers will be able to choose from a wide range of devices from the likes of LG, Samsung, and HTC.

Skyfire Mobile Browser hits 1 million mark

By now, you’ve probably heard of the Skyfire browser. Well, now the company has announced that its flash-enabled browser has hit the 1 million mark.

It’s a great browser to use if your mobile device hasn’t received official support for Adobe Flash yet. Skyfire is compatible with a wide range of phones including the HTC EVO 4G, Droid Incredible, Droid X, Droid 2, and Samsung Galaxy S.

HTC announces the Desire Z

HTC has just announced the Desire Z, an Android QWERTY slider. Just like the T-Mobile G2, the Desire Z has a pop-out QWERTY keyboard with user assigned keys and system-wide shortcuts so you can quickly launch your favorite apps.

There’s also a 5 megapixel camera with flash in back that’s HD video capable. An 800MHz Qualcomm MSM7230 processor is inside with HSPA+ and 802.11n. The Desire Z also comes with HTC’s enhanced Sense UI and new HTCSense.com services.

T-Mobile MyTouch HD to have a November 3rd release

Whether you call it the HTC Emerald, or the MyTouch HD from T-Mobile, it will be hitting the market on November 3rd. That looks about right, but we wouldn’t rule out a delay for a few days either. Hey, roadmaps can be blurry.

Whatever day it arrives, November is right around the corner, just like your local T-mobile store, so you won’t have THAT long to wait. Patience you must have.

First official pictures of the T-Mobile G2

The folks over at Cellphone Signal have gotten their hands on some images that are purportedly the T-Mobile HTC G2. The phone should be announced in October, which is quite a ways off. Details are scarce, but the HTC G2 is supposed to use T-Mobile’s latest HSPA+ 3.5G network.

Some other features include a 1Ghz Qualcomm SnapDragon processor, GPS, Bluetooth, and WIFI. It also sports a sliding keyboard for all of you heavy texters. You’ll also get an Android OS w/ HTC Sense.

HTC Windows Phone 7 device hits FCC

Those busy bees at the FCC have been checking out a Windows Phone 7-powered device from HTC. The ID label HTC filed comes in a cool retro yellow, which points toward the fashion side of things instead of corporate black.

Also it appears that this device will be heading to our friends across the pond first, since there’s no mention of US-compatible WCDMA or EV-DO networks. It will cover EDGE 850/1900 and 802.11b/g/n Wi-Fi and Bluetooth.

Google launching a Chrome OS tablet on Verizon, arrives November 26

We’ve been hearing rumors of a Google Chrome OS tablet hitting Verizon for awhile now. The latest rumor has Google’s Chrome OS tablet is being built by HTC, and it will apparently be launched on Verizon on November 26th.

The device will be subsidized by the carrier, and much cheaper than the iPad. The rumor says that it has the following specs: An NVIDIA Tegra 2 platform, 1280 x 720 pixel multi-touch display, 2GB of RAM, a 32GB SSD, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, 3G connectivity, GPS, Webcam and Expandable storage.
