Tron lightcycle case mod is awesome

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on May 19th, 2011

Feast your eyes on this Tron case mod. It looks like it could just zip away from your desktop, leaving only a trail of light behind it. Bods Mods has just completed this 40-inch long lightcycle PC and unleashed it on the world. Or the grid. Whatever.

It features an ATX motherboard, liquid cooling, and blue light aplenty. It was created using SketchUp, Google’s 3D modeling app. After that it was a lot of foam shaping and Dremel work. The detail is simply stunning. Bods Mods has entered this case in Cooler Master’s 2011 Case Mod Competition.

New Verizon LG Revolution Pics

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2011

The LG Revolution from Verizon Wireless will be launching on May 26 and now we have the first real images that have surfaced online. It will feature Bing as the default search engine and run on Verizon’s 4G LTE network. You can see the lock screen and that smooth new black cover in the above image.

We aren’t sure if we prefer the black cover to the silver back that was on display at CES, but either way it looks sexy. And if you are interested in the packaging, it will look nearly identical to that of the HTC Thunderbolt.

HTC Sensation 4G launching on June 8

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on May 16th, 2011

We know you can’t wait to get your hands on HTC’s first dual-core phone, so check out the above screen shot confirming the rumored June 8th release date. This date is for T-Mobile and it looks like Target will launch the phone on a Sunday which lines up perfectly with the June 12th date we heard.

A June 8th release date was first rumored since a spotted Google advertisement hinted at a “6/8″ release. That Google advertisement was quickly pulled, then the press shot of the Sensation 4G was dated June 8th providing some supporting evidence. Now this screenshot confirms things even more. June 8th will be Sensation 4G day. Mark your calendars.

The inductive-charging backplate for the HTC Thunderbolt has just hit the FCC, so keeping your battery-devouring gadget charged up will soon get a whole lot easier. Right now you have to plug several times a day just to keep it all juiced up, but soon you’ll be able to just rest it on a charging mat.

We don’t know when it will arrive, but hopefully it will be soon as it would make our lives a bit easier.

Android finally gets Netflix app, for five devices

Posted in Android by Conner Flynn on May 12th, 2011

Netflix finally has an Android app that is publicly available. The app is pretty identical to the one released for the iPhone and it lets users manage their instant queue and watch videos. Of course to use it you need a subscription starting from $8.

Thing is, only a handful of phones can use the Netflix app, all of which are using Snapdragon processors. These first five include the Samsung Nexus S and four HTC phones, including the Evo 4G, the original Incredible, the Nexus One, and the T-Mobile G2. The Droid Incredible 2 and Thunderbolt, weren’t mentioned, though they have also have Snapdragon.

There’s a fix for data problems when accessing Verizon’s 3G network and it will also stabilize the performance of data-heavy apps.

GPS updates are said to be faster when using Google Maps and VZ Navigator with the update. Also, SMS and MMS messages will be stored properly and location information in the Weather Widget will now display accurate information.

It looks like tomorrow is finally the day that the HTC Merge gets real on Verizon’s network. We’ve all been waiting for this device. It was rumored to be getting an LTE radio and other upgrades, but so far it has been acting like it’s scared of store shelves.

Well, tomorrow is looking very likely though it hasn’t been upgraded, but it does have global capabilities and a good looking keyboard. Most anyone who wanted it has probably moved on by now. What do you think?

Researchers estimate that this flaw has affected hundreds of thousands of applications, exposed user access tokens to advertisers and others.

So what is the fix? It’s as simple as changing your password. So you might want to do that right away just to be safe.

HTC Trophy could hit Verizon on May 5

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on May 2nd, 2011

Verizon’s long-delayed and long awaited version of the HTC Trophy might just finally show up this week. We hope. A new rumor has the Windows Phone 7 device shipping on May 5, though the rumor didn’t specify a price or explain why it was delayed from the April 15 date on the Verizon roadmap.

The device features a 3.8-inch 480×800 screen, a 1GHz Snapdragon chip, and a five-megapixel camera. Verizon’s edition might have dual-mode CDMA and GSM but we know it will ship with Microsoft’s NoDo update for copy-and-paste text and other upgrades. Software changes include Slacker Radio and a My Verizon Mobile account app.

LG Revolution Press Shot Spotted

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on May 1st, 2011

The latest shots of the LG Revolution show a date of May 25, 2011, so we can surmise that Verizon will release it on that day. That is not a new strategy, HTC and Samsung have also used launch or release dates in press image screenshots, and LG has done it before as well. Then again, you never know. Keep your fingers crossed.

The Revolution would be either the second or third 4G LTE phone to be released. The Thunderbolt is already out, the Droid Charge has been delayed and the Droid Bionic has been pushed back too. The Revolution is a single-core device with WVGA resolution, which might make it less attractive to some, but it does include Netflix for Android which is a bonus.

HTC Rider spotted

Posted in HTC by Conner Flynn on April 28th, 2011

A new HTC phone has now been spotted. We don’t have many details, but it is rumored to go by the name of the HTC Rider. It looks like the HTC EVO 3D, but with a chrome speaker grill and a front facing camera on the right. That’s all we have.

It’s hard to figure out more since the image is so blurry. For instance, is that red trim part of the phone or just a protective case? We don’t know. A red HTC phone sounds good though.

WiFi HTC Flyer hits the FCC

Posted in HTC by Reuben Drake on April 28th, 2011

Want to know where to find the FCC label on the HTC Flyer? This handy drawing will help. If you really love the device you can display it on your fridge like a proud parent. The 7-inch Android device has just been approved by the FCC. It appears to be a WiFi-only model, also tested for BlueTooth compliance, but lacking 3G.

Hopefully you took care of your pre-order last week. Now all you need to do is wait for this $499 piece of Gingerbread. We hope that it ships soon now that we have this cool drawing.
