HP claims one day of continuous laptop functionality

HP EliteBook 6930p

Remember back in June when HP dropped 16 new laptops in your lap? It is now claiming one of these – the EliteBook 6930p – can offer up to 24 hours of continuous notebook operation on a single battery charge. There are, of course, some specific caveats to this claim.

HP says that, in order to get the 24 hour battery life promoted, you have to have “separately purchased [the] Ultra Capacity Battery and [that the] customer [must have] download[ed]…the latest Intel graphics driver and HP BIOS. Notebook must be configured with optional Intel 80 GB SSD drive and HP Illumi-Lite LED Display (planned to be available October 2008) and requires Microsoft Windows XP operating system.”

Awesome video game belt buckles

Awesome video game belt bucklesIf you absolutely have to keep your pants up, and I recommend that you do so that you don’t get acquainted with police, these video game belt buckles are the best way to do it. Each one is handmade by artist Natalie Hutcheson and is full of famous retro video game action, such as Donkey Kong, Ms. Pac-Man and more.

They’re made with brass-toned metal, inlaid with sparkling metallic game graphics, then coated with a durable industrial epoxy finish. These are probably the coolest belt buckles I’ve seen in my entire geek life. And they’re only $18 each. Now, if someone would just create an LED Pac-Man belt that can zip around my waist chasing ghosts, my life would be complete.

ASUS offers four new perfumed laptops

Posted in ASUS by Conner Flynn on August 25th, 2008

ASUS offers four new perfumed laptopsWhile everyone else is trying to get your dollars by offering various colored laptops or laptops with art prints on them, Asus is taking it one step further by offering a dimension not of sight or sound, but smell. ASUS has a new line of fragrant laptops.

It gets better.(Or worse depending on your perspective) The fragrance will match the graphics, so that as you work the day away, you can trick your nose into thinking you are at the beach or something. It’s aimed more toward female users though, with four special edition laptops. Floral Blossom is pink and flowery, Musky Black sports graffiti art emits a…earthy musk; Morning Dew comes in pastel green and probably doesn’t emit Mountain Dew odor, while Aqua Ocean smells like the sea. Pretty strange. No price yet, but you’ll smell it coming.

HP Photosmart D5460

HP recently did some updates to its consumer printers and technology, unveiling two compact photo printers, a new five-ink printing system and a home printer which can print from the Web. The HP Photosmart A630 and A530 Compact Photo Printers are expected to be available in August at around $150 and $100, respectively, while the HP Photosmart D5460 Printer is available now for around $100.

The main item of interest here is the five-ink printing system, which uses  a single dual-drop-volume printhead that delivers an extremely small drop size and offers consumers what HP says is “better control over costs by requiring fewer cartridges to manage.” You can get full details on these new HP printing functions after the jump.

Bank Quest: Tomy’s bank with built-in RPG
I guess it isn’t easy being a Japanese geek. Not that it’s easy being an American geek, but the Japanese have so much more cool stuff to tempt them out of their savings. That’s why Takara Tomy has made a new kind of piggy bank. One with an RPG game built into it. It’s called Bank Quest.

Not very original, but appropriate. You can buy weapons and armor for your character from the savings you place inside the bank. Where have I seen this before. Oh right, it was called an arcade, where you put your money in played. Except you get to keep the money with this bank. Improve the graphics and gameplay, you might just have a bunch of gamers saving their money for once.

HP TouchSmart all-in-one PC launches

Posted in HP by Shane McGlaun on June 10th, 2008

HP TouchSmartAll-in-one PCs are appealing to lots of people because they take up less space on top of the desk and under it. Rather than having a computer tower under your desk and lots of cables running around your workspace you simply have a monitor, mouse and keyboard making things nice and tidy. Apple does this with its iMac line.

HP announced a new all-in-one system today called the TouchSmart. HP says that the TouchSmart is designed to resemble a messenger bag—I don’t quite see that in the design myself. The PC features software …

SpaceNavigator for Notebook launches

SpaceNavigator for NotebooksI’m sure some of the real on-the-go types that work with 3D graphics and such all the time will find this device very useful. I used to own one of the full size SpaceNavigator devices and I am obviously not the target demographic for the device because I just didn’t find a use for it.

However, with the recent announcement that the SpaceNavigator will be SecondLife compatible mobile SecondLife fans might find the thing useful. 3Dconnexion says that the SpaceNavigator for Notebooks is more compact than the normal desktop device and weighs about half as much.
