FyreTV, which first got noticed at last year’s Consumer Electronics Show, kicked off its porn streaming to your home media room via wireless IPTV set-top box service at this year’s CES. The box itself is called, suggestively enough, the BoXXX.

The BoXXX comes with the service, which has a starting price of around $10 a month. For that virtual equivalent to a roll of $1 bills you get access to “streaming DVD quality adult content.” The pay-for options look to be ala cart though, unless you purchase one of the all you can view porn packages (you do get some FyreCredits as part of the service). Otherwise you pay something called 1 FyreCredit roughly per minute of adult entertainment, though this seems to vary depending upon the particular adult production studio content you are watching.

If you’ve considered getting your hands on an HD DVD player before the holidays you may want to consider hanging out at your local Wal-Mart tomorrow morning. According to their totally legit Secret In-Store Specials page, many stores will be offering the Toshiba HD-A2 HD DVD player starting Friday at 8am through the weekend for a mere $98.87. The player was previously priced at just under $200 and is still listed at around $200 at Amazon and almost $300 at most other places.

The Toshiba HD-A2 is a 2nd generation player that supports the HD DVD disc format, rivaled by none other than the high-definition Blu-ray disc format in an ongoing high-def war, which currently seem like it will have no end. The player outputs in 720p/1080i formats and has SD up-conversion to 480p/720p/1080i. And as you might expect, as soon as you buy this one its expected to be followed up soon by its upgrade, the Toshiba HD-A3, which Sears is planning on selling for $169 with two HD DVD movies bundled with it.

In a major hit to HD DVD supporters, Blockbuster has decided to go with the rival Blu-ray high definition DVD format in 1,450 of its 1700 stores across the nation. This decision was made after a year of renting both the Blu-ray and HD DVD formats in their stores after which the video rental giant found that Blu-ray was preferred by its consumers over 70% of the time.

Continuing the battle of DVD replacement formats, Sony is launching a less expensive player for Blu-ray discs bringing some additional pull to the Blu-ray format over HD DVD to replace standard DVD’s.

According to Randy Wayhick, senior vice president of home products for Sony Electronics, this summer the company will begin offering the BDP-S300 Blu-ray player, which has all the same capabilities as the BDP-S1 pictured here excluding the price tag.
