Diablo III Details: Not Good

Posted in News by Reuben Drake on August 1st, 2011

Fans of the Diablo franchise from Blizzard have been waiting for Diablo III. Now some details on the game surfaced and gamers are not happy about them. For one thing the game will require a constant internet connection and there is no offline mode.

Yep, you can only play online. But it gets worse. Blizzard has specifically disallowed game mods and bots. This is one of the main reasons people play the game. The final nail in the coffin is that all of the items in the online auction houses will be sold for real world money. No farming for gold and making loot by killing enemies. It’s like this title has just committed suicide. Anyone

Yoomi DUO Turns Your iPad into an Interactive Board Game

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on August 1st, 2011

Despite the fact that touchscreen tablets are supposed to be free of unnecessary accessories and other gadgets, the DUO will gladly turn your iPad into an interactive board game. Just set it on top of the iPad or iPad 2 and it will work with a game called Yoomi.

The DUO comes with tokens, so at the end of the game there is a winner and a loser. It retails for $14.99 on Amazon and is also available at Toys ‘R’ Us, and Walmart. I guess this is where board games are headed, instead of coming in a large box.

Star Wars Operation

Posted in Sci-Fi by Conner Flynn on June 27th, 2011

Remember the old Operation game. The funny bone was the hardest to get and I can still hear that buzzer! Now Hasbro is launching a new edition of the popular board game, but they have switched the red-nosed guy for R2-D2.

The game can be pre-ordered now for $27, and it will ship in September. Jawas are no longer the only guys who get to operate on droids. I wonder what R2′s hardest part to remove is.

Sonic the Hedgehog cake

Posted in Games by Reuben Drake on June 27th, 2011

It’s been awhile since we featured a cool geeky cake and this one qualifies. Makes me hungry just looking at it. If I could, I would run circles around this cake like Sonic himself as I gobbled up those rings, that icing and all the rest of it.

And I wouldn’t share. This would strictly be a one player game. It would be delicious. Sega-licious.

Just slide in your iDevice and you will be able to see the invisible aliens and mow them down. When you pull the trigger, two capacitive pads touch the screen to fire. The appBlaster is available for pre-order right now for about $32) and will arrive on July 7.

Xbox 360 gets cloud saving, game request beacons

Posted in Xbox 360 by Conner Flynn on June 6th, 2011

Unveiled at an E3 keynote, Microsoft has bestowed upon us a pair of new and heavily requested Xbox Live features that will come with the update. It should now store saved game info and a full Live profile. This allows you to hop to another Xbox 360 and resume progress without having to start from scratch.

Beacons are also new and show your friends your desire to play a game. Individual titles can be marked with beacons and will show up as interested parties on Live, even when you are playing something else. This lets gamers kill time with a game or a video until friends are ready to play with each other.

Australia getting Ocarina of Time 3D bundle

Posted in Nintendo 3DS by Conner Flynn on May 26th, 2011

Australia is getting a special edition of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time 3D. The Australian Ocarina Bundle is available exclusively as a pre-order bonus from EB Games. It includes an actual Ocarina, and some sheet music to play music from the game.

Once again Nintendo favors another country with some goodies that we can’t get on our shores. It’s enough to make a Nintendo fan sad enough to play the blues on his Ocarina. If he had one anyway.

Posted in Alienware by Conner Flynn on March 14th, 2011

Alienware gaming machines always have the fastest GPUs and CPUs, but it seems like the integrated speakers for the audio system leave a lot to be desired. It will start at $1,499 and have an optional full HD 17-inch 3D screen. It will also have Klipsch speakers for better sound.

The machine is the first team up between Klipsch and Alienware and it’s also the first 3D gaming notebook from Alienware. There will be more notebooks with Klipsch sound systems coming soon.

Posted in Games by Conner Flynn on March 10th, 2011

This isn’t really a surprise since most of you reading this are probably just taking a breather between Prestige levels, but Black Ops has now sold more than Zelda: Ocarina of Time, Planescape Torment, Super Mario Galaxy and basically any other blockbuster game.

The information comes from NPD. The folks at Treyarch are surely celebrating. Now comes the hard part. Having to outdo themselves and make an even better game so they can do it again and celebrate some more.

OnLive offering free MicroConsole when you buy Homefront game

Posted in Games by Reuben Drake on February 27th, 2011

If you were thinking about buying a $99 OnLive Game System, here’s some good news for you. If you pre-order THQ’s Homefront on OnLive for $50, you’ll get a voucher for a free MicroConsole and a free game. Not too shabby of a deal.

The deal runs through March 14th, and just so you know, supplies are limited, shipping costs extra, and you won’t actually receive the hardware until after the deal expires. It might not be a good sign for the company that it has to give away it’s console with this deal at such an early stage in it’s life, but either way you win.
