Fuubi wooden earphones

Posted in Earbuds by Conner Flynn on December 11th, 2009

Fuubi wooden earphonesGot wood? Then ease up on the Viagra. I kid, I kid. But if you want some natural wood earbuds, Fuubi is offering a pair of canal-types. They use wood similar to what’s used in furniture and crafts.

The earphones boast that they will deliver great quality over a wide range of music, as the enclosed structure reduces ambient noise and sound leakage. There’s nothing worse than sound leaking from your ears. They even feature a 24k gold-plated 3.5mm stereo mini-plug. They cost about $39 in Japan.

Tiny living room inside a PC

Posted in DIY by Conner Flynn on October 11th, 2009

Tiny living room inside a PC Take a look at the pic above. That’s a livingroom inside of a PC. I knew tiny people were living in our PCs, but this is the proof I have been waiting for. But who lives there? How long have they been in residence? Should we be charging them rent? Are they affecting performance? So many questions.

They’ve been in this PC for a while as evidenced by the Cracker Jacks on the table and the tiny copy of the New York Times. They’ve even matched the furniture with the red motherboard.

Jeffrey Stephenson’s retro side table/computer system

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on September 16th, 2009

Jeffrey Stephenson’s retro side table/computer systemWe’ve featured some of Jeffrey Stephenson’s work before. He’s a man born in the wrong era, with a love of blending retro design with modern devices. This beauty looks like it’s from yesteryear, but it’s new. A black walnut mission-style side table that doubles as a computer system.

It features a slide-in standard ATX mid tower case and decorative panels that are easily replaced and can be changed whenever you want something different. It also sports a bottom-to-top air cooling system with a large intake filter and dual stage temperature-controlled exhaust fans.

Modi Sofa is configurable

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on August 23rd, 2009

Modi Sofa is configurableAccording to my wife good furniture that fits your unique style and taste is hard to find. The Italian designed Modi Sofa may make things easier. Sort of like Lego, it allows for nearly infinite customization, using modules which you insert in the base to form different shapes and styles of sofas.

There are flat modules, back or arm rest modules, corner pieces, etc. They all fit neatly into the grid base. Finally, you can make your sofa how you want it. They even have a glass top to make an end table or coffee table if you like. Pretty neat. All furniture should be modular.

Pac-Man Coffee Table

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on June 18th, 2009

Pac-Man Coffee TableWhen you have a table as awesome as the Pac-Man Coffee Table, you better use coasters. Or else. This table is all kinds of awesome. It’s really a superbly detailed work of ingenious geek art.

Syd Bolton from Ontario, Canada contacted designer Erin McFadden, who took a plain coffee table and turned it into this. One of the coolest geek tables ever. Now why can we not buy this kind of furniture in stores? You just know that he goes ballistic when his friends don’t use coasters. And I don’t blame him.

steelcase14inlcdarm-sbLarge LCDs are a great way to get more information on your screen at once. Even better than a single large LCD is several large LCDs, the catch is finding room on an average desk to sit more than one 24-inch screen.

Coin Bank, for vertical money saving

Posted in Furniture by Conner Flynn on May 27th, 2009

Coin Bank, for vertical money savingThis bank is like a game of Connect Four. Except, that you would need to connects thousands…Of coins. I won. Where? There, diagonally. Pretty sneaky sis! This bank stands on its own and is a piece of furniture all by itself. It’s called the Coin Bank and I can only guess that when it is emptied from the bottom, it’s like winning big in Vegas as the coins pile up around you.

The design is simple. Just two pieces of glass pressed together with pegs between. Just drop your change in on top and watch it fall. All of the coins stay in place until you unlock and empty it.

Russian casemod looks menacing

Posted in Cases by Conner Flynn on May 18th, 2009

Russian casemod looks menacingWild casemods are nothing new. But this one is pretty unique. It has a menacing look and looks like it would keep you warm in place of a fire as you sip your Vodka.

There isn’t much info on it. Looks like bronze built around some Demon trapped Inside. Which makes it a great solid piece of furniture instead of a boring PC case.

Ratchet Allen KeysWhether you are building a ton of Ikea furniture or putting together a bike, the trusty old Allen wrench is a part of it. But the only thing that sucks about the little tools is that they don’t operate like a ratchet.Well, now you can have your Allen wrench and your ratchet all in one,

Floor-wiping robot is like a cylon worm that evolved from the Swiffer

Posted in Robots by Conner Flynn on May 7th, 2009

The Fukitorimushia floor-cleaning robot wipes instead of vacuums, like an inchworm with a cylon eye. Designed by Panasonic, the little robot is wrapped in a nanocloth sleeve, which collects dust and debris as the robot crawls, worm-style, across your floor.

Yes, what we have here is the swiffer evolved. Its also has sensors to seek out dirt, so it will focus on problem areas first, then move on the assorted crumbs. Nothing on price or availability yet.

Botropolis: This week in robots

Botropolis: This week in robotsIt’s Friday. You know what that means. It’s time for our weekly robot roundup. It’s been a busy week over at Botropolis, as usual. Robots don’t take a break and neither do we. Rest assured, we will still be reporting on their exploits even as the bunker burns around us and cold metal fingers tighten around our necks. Until that day, we shall document their rise to power, fearing them, preparing, and checking out cool robot toys that distract us.

Two new Segway bots: A Bomb-Defusing, Riot-Controlling, Firefighting duo.

Loki: A robot named after the Norse god.

We love it when a plan comes together: The Robot A-Team.

Conspiracy: Robot Spotted Reading The Bible In Bulls Logo.

UpCart turns shopping carts into rolling trees

Posted in Concepts by Conner Flynn on April 2nd, 2009

UpCart turns shopping carts into rolling treesWe’ve seen a surprising amount of shopping cart inspired design here at the “Brick. Sometimes artists turn them into furniture, other times it’s more about real world grocery store innovation, like the design above. And let’s face it, the shopping cart needs an overhaul.

With the UpCart, shoppers could use their carts like a storage system. Put your heavy items near the bottom, lighter items on top. The design makes a lot of sense. The bins can be easily moved around in any position for easy access. This cart may even help prevent traffic jams on aisle four. Maybe.

Alien PS3 case mod

Posted in PS3 by Conner Flynn on March 3rd, 2009

Alien PS3 case modIt’s Ripley’s console of choice. She plays it while wearing a Mech-suit just in case she has to hurl it out into space. Granted, it should feature a baby alien popping out of it’s chest somewhere, but it’s still a pretty awesome mod. We have the perfect furniture to accompany it.

This beast was created with super heated epoxy putty, that was sculpted and cooled. When the material cools it becomes as hard as metal, so it’s permanently creepy.
