Runco VX-22i 1080p projector with integrated controller

Posted in CES 2008,DLP,Planar,Projectors by Darrin Olson on January 10th, 2008

Runco Video Xtreme VX-22i 1080p projector with option CineWide technologyRunco has a new addition to their lineup of Xtreme DLP projectors with the VX-22i which they are introducing at the Consumer Electronics Show this year in Las Vegas. The VX-22i is based on their popular VX-22d model but this time they’ve integrated the DHD controller into the same chasis as the projector making a one piece high-def projector to provide a theater-like experience of your own.

All of the Xtreme projectors from Runco, the VX-22i included, run a three-chip DLP implementation with a chip dedicated to each color of red, green and blue for better color with high calibration standards and THX Display certification. This model also can be optionally equipped with what Runco calls the “CineWide” and “CineWide with AutoScope”. This add-on brings another $15k to the price of the projector but gives more of a real movie theater-like display. It can show 2.35:1 CinemaScope movies and gets rid of that unattractive black bar above and below the picture that you often get when trying to view widescreen pictures, even with switching between CinemaScope wide and 16:9.

JVC dual iPod dock, clock radio

Posted in CES 2008,Clocks,Dock,JVC,iPod Accessories by Darrin Olson on January 8th, 2008

JVC NX-PN7 dual ipod dockWith so many iPod accessories on the market today it’s tough to make one stand out from the others, especially with clock radio docks. JVC is making an attempt to stand out this year and unveiling this clock radio at the Consumer Electronics Show which that docks not just one but two iPods, making it twice as good, right?

The JVC NX-PN7 dock features a clock and timer and we’re making an assumption that it has an alarm that will play music from the iPod, but JVC did not mention that specifically. It would also be nice if this clock radio was a dual alarm that would play a different iPod with the different alarm, but unfortunately there was no mention of that either.

D-Link’s PC-on-TV makes a wireless PC monitor

Posted in CES 2008,D-Link,Media Players by Darrin Olson on January 7th, 2008

D-Link PC-on-TV media player system streams the computer display to your TVD-Link has a new networking product that they are unveiling at the Consumer Electronics Show this year, boasting the ability to bring videos, movies and photos wirelessly from a PC to a television or projector, getting your online video content into your living room. The D-Link PC-on-TV (DPG-1200) receiver connects to your television through composite or component cable connections and streams content from your PC through WiFi.

The press release from D-Link talks about using the system to stream media content to your television which is the most likely use for many people, and says it is media player-independent, allowing viewing of just about any media player that plays on your PC like YouTube, iTunes, Windows Media Player, etc. You can also view an internet browser or play some online games through the system and navigate the display with an included remote control and trackball. Our interpretation of this is that the device really does what the name says: “PC-on-TV”. The ability to play media and view photos on your television is a big part but seems to be focused on for marketing purposes.

Posted in CES 2008,Digital Video,Pinnacle Systems by Reuben Drake on January 3rd, 2008

Pinnacle video transfer records video straight to your iPod, PSP or other USB devicePinnacle Systems has a pretty cool little device debuting at the Consumer Electronics Show this year called the Pinnacle Video Transfer. The Video Transfer allows users to connect analog video input and record it straight to different USB 2.0 compatible media players such as an iPod, PSP or just to a regular USB flash drive. It takes connections from a number of video inputs such as S-Video, Composite video and stereo audio analog from devices like a television, DVD player or camcorder. From there it converts it up to 720×480 H.264 MPEG-4 files on the USB device, ready for playing. Different recording qualities can be set depending on the quality desired and the size of the display needed so you can save some space by recording small for a small screen. It can even be used to charge up some devices while connected.
