When it comes to rear seat entertainment there are a lot of vehicles on the road that have TVs and movie players for kids and adults to watch on longer trips. Watching DVDs can be a bit boring after a while though and in most cars, you are out of luck.

BMW has unveiled at the Paris Motor Show new factory iPad docks for the rear seat passengers. The dock is very nice looking and integrated well into the design of the car. Some aftermarket docks just don’t look good.

Controlling the music and content on your iPod or iPhone is easy to do with the Apple menus. Things can get more difficult if you have to use a system on an accessory that is different though. BMW has announced that it will support the iPod Out feature on iOS4.

The feature will allow BMW to put the actual menus from the iPod touch or the iPhone onto the cars in dash screen. BMW will support the feature on future BMW and Mini models.

The Duracell Instant Charger just got a big refresh. It’s handy as ever and looks nice too. The Duracell Instant Charger Designer version has just gone on sale in the UK in fact. The company claims that Apple and BMW inspired the look, if you can believe it.

When it comes to racing and driving games one of the top franchises is EA’s Need for Speed. The games have been around for years and EA has announced that the playable demo for the next installment of the franchise is set to hit the PS3 and the Xbox on October 1.

The playable demo for Need for Speed Shift will allow players to drive two circuits including Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps and the tight city circuit of London River. The game will also offer five vehicles for players to sample with real-world physics.

When GPS devices first started to become popular as options on vehicles, they were mainly limited to high-end luxury cars. As the price of GPS technology has come down, more and more vehicles and motorcycles are adding GPS options and many are opting for portable navigation devices.

Garmin and BMW have announced the introduction of a new GPS device that is customized for BMW motorcycle owners called the BMW Motrrad Navigator IV. The device has custom BMW features including a custom mount, preloaded BMW dealer database, and audio and Bluetooth capabilities.

Office workers who work in certain industries need special computers to get their work done. A standard desktop that is used for checking email and writing word documents in a normal office just won’t cut it in a graphics design or CAD department. HP has announced its new Z series workstations today that use the new Intel Xeon 5500 series processors. The new series includes the Z800, Z600, and Z400 workstations that are aimed at the CAD, engineering, medical imaging, finance and oil/gas industries.

Yesterday we told you about Marty Mcfly’s jacket showing up on ebay. Well, remember Griff Tannen’s hover BMW from the second installment of the futuristic trilogy? Jeff Chabotte never forgot. He tracked down the original movie car, bought it and gave it a complete restoration. Sadly there wasn’t a thing he could do about it’s ability to fly. Chabotte spent a lot of time and money on the project, not to mention the usual blood, sweat and tears. Yep. He loves BTTF and it’s cars just that much. Smart devices are all the rage, we have smart phones, smart cards and the like, why can’t we have smart keys? At some point in the future, smart keys that allow users to do much more than start their car and operate the alarm may be the norm. Naturally, the technology will first be seen on a luxury car.

NXP Semiconductors and BMW are teaming up to bring smart key technology to car buyers. The key prototype contains a contactless payment system along with personalized access control and other advanced functionalities.

Meet the Nokia BMW Video Phone. Take one look and it’s obviously the BMW of cellphones right? A thing of beauty. It’s what you get when you combine the ultimate driving machine with the ultimate video mobile phone.

The Nokia BMW mobile phone has an interesting standout feature called “push to open” which is a mechanism that rotates 90 degrees. Push the button and your phone is a handy-cam. We’re thinking they should get on this one real quick, but experience tells us that they’ll take their own sweet time and let someone else beat them to it. Someone like Sony for instance.

BMW has one hell of new concept car on their hands. It’s known as the GINA Light Visionary Model. It uses a seamless, plastic-coated lycra material, stretched over a metal frame that has moving parts. This gives it shape-shifting attributes. It can actually change body shape without tearing or even loosening of the fabric.(How many Gina’s do you know who can do that?)

Just like in the movies, the steering wheel, gauges and headrest will move into place after you sit down in the seat. The body is made of just four panels, the hood, both sides and one on the rear. Rain won’t ruin your fun either since the material is water resistant. This car can alter simple things like adding or removing a spoiler, or widening and extending fenders, but just think what it could do a few years from now. Looks like the Transformers are coming soon.

We loved the Ferrari cell phone and we knew that it was just a matter of time until more cars joined in on the fun. If you’re not the Ferrari type, or just need a new car to use as a cell phone, you might want to try an Audi or even a BMW.
