Moshi Voice Control Reflection Clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on December 28th, 2010

There have been many times that I wished I could yell at the clock to turn off the alarm, but sadly it doesn’t work that way. However, Moshi, a company known for their voice recognition technology has just made their Moshi Voice Control Reflection Clock available for purchase. I can’t wait to tell it to shut the hell up.

This clock features eleven voice activated functions that can be customized, with commands for setting the time and alarm, snoozing, getting the outside temperature, and recording an 8 minute memo. The Moshi Voice Control Reflection Clock is just $59.95.

TimeCommand Dock for iPhone/iPod/iPad also controls a lamp

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on December 9th, 2010

You can choose from a million alarm clock docks, most with the same basic features. Or you can choose one that is more original, like the TimeCommand. This dock will dock and charge your iPod, iPhone, or iPad and has an adjustable connector that will work if you have your gadget in a case or not in a case. A free app can also be downloaded to let you set multiple alarms.

The neatest feature is that you can plug in your bedside lamp and the TimeCommand will wake you to your alarm as well as light from the lamp. With the app it can be dimmed and a timer can cut the lamp off when you go to bed.

Let’s face it, you have way too many iPod dock options. But this offering from Yamaha is stylish, powerful and should look good in your bedroom. Plus it will wake you gently. The TSX-140 desktop audio system promises to wake you gradually with the sound of your favorite music. It can fade in the music rather than simply jolting you awake.

Pure Twilight Alarm Clock

Posted in Clocks by Conner Flynn on November 30th, 2010

The Pure Twilight Alarm Clock won’t wake you up by asking if you are team Jacob or team Edward, despite it’s name. But it is a dawn simulator lamp and digital radio in one. This alarm clock comes with several alarm settings. You can wake to a tone, a digital radio, an FM radio, or special alarm tones including “church bell” and “cockerel” or natural sounds like “wind chimes”, “dawn chorus” and “cicadas”.

They all sound annoying to me. This device also uses several bright LED lights to simulate a gentle sunrise before the alarm goes off, allowing you to slowly wake up instead of being jolted awake. It also has a PowerPort, which lets users charge their cell phones or PMPs.

Alarm clocks are far too easy to turn off, defeating the purpose of an alarm. Just hit the button and go back to sleep. But with the Aphelion clock concept, you will wake up annoyed. It forces you to retrieve the ball that it just threw at you, so you can put it back in its holder to activate the snooze function.

The other features are pretty standard. There’s a radio and MP3 player input, and a large display. Depending on how heavy the ball is, it may just put you back to sleep. Permanently.
