Toshiba has a new line of USB 3.0 external hard drives in the STOR.E Edition. They are available in three different storage capacities: 500GB, 750GB and 1TB.

The plug and play hard drives feature different colors and a casing that has a grooved texture, a USB 3.0 connection interface and they come pre-loaded with Nero BackItUp & Burn Essentials software. Nothing on pricing and release date yet though.

Hitachi has introduced a pair of new external hard drives in the Hitachi Touro line. The Touro Pro Desktop and Pro Mobile deliver two levels of protection: local backup and cloud storage, which will help you protect, transport and store your photos, music, and videos.

The cloud storage is always good since it can survive theft, flood or fire and other dangers. And you get 3GB of online storage for free with the option to upgrade to 250GB for only $49 per year, which includes multiple computer protection.

If you use several different capacity storage drives Toshiba has unveiled a new line of STOR.E ART external hard drives that are color coded depending on their storage capacities. The 2.5″ drives will come in 500GB (red), 640GB (green), 750GB (blue), 1TB (white) and 1.5TB (silver).

That should help you keep track of things. Each STOR.E ART drive has a USB 3.0 interface, 256-bit encryption, and comes preloaded with BackupNow EZ software for easy backups. These new drives should arrive in the first quarter of 2011, but we have no info on pricing yet from Toshiba.

Packard Bell has outed their first line of USB 3.0 external hard drives, the PB Go. These drives come in 320GB, 500GB and 750GB sizes and the 2.5-inch hard drives feature a sleek black coating. So they look pretty much like everyone elses.

They also feature the superfast USB 3.0 interface, a 5400 RPM spindle speed and they come bundled with the Packard Bell Software Suite. Prices starts at about $96.

We’ve seen magazine companies bundle content with hard drive purchases in the past. Remember the National Geographic external hard drive? Well now we have a bundle that’s a little more adult oriented.

The Playboy $300 250GB hard drive contains every single issue of the magazine dating back to 1953. That’s a lot of boobs and airbrushing for sure. $300 is expensive for a hard drive, sure, but you’re really paying for the boobs.

Western Digital has introduced the My Passport Essential portable hard drive, My Passport Essential SE portable hard drive and My Book Essential external hard drive. These storage devices come in variety of storage capacities and deliver superfast USB 3.0 connectivity.

The My Passport Essential is the smallest with a 500GB storage capacity, while the My Passport Essential SE is available in 750GB and 1TB sizes. The My Book Essential ranges from 1TB up to 3TB. The My Passport Essential portable is $99.99, the My Passport Essential SE drives range from $129.99 to $169.99, and the My Book Essential drives are from $129.99 to $249.99.

If you need more iPad storage space, then you might consider the new HyperDrive from HyperMac. The HyperDrive is an external hard drive for the Apple iPad that delivers up to 750GB of storage to your iPad.

This device connects via Apple’s camera connection kit. The HyperDrive comes packed with a 3.2-inch color display and a d-pad with menu buttons for navigation. There’s also a built-in memory card reader. HyperDrive prices start at $249 for the basic model. The 750GB model is $599.

The Stealth HD Bio from MXI Security is a biometric USB hard drive with AES 256-bit CBC hardware encryption that is perfect for your secure portable data security needs. The device is powered by the Bluefly Security Processor which is FIPS 140-2 Level 3 validated.

The Stealth HD Bio is available in 250GB, 320GB and 500GB capacities. It’s more secure than some due to a fingerprint scanner that complements the security processor on the drive. Sadly we don’t have any info on pricing or availability yet.

The Silicon Power A70 Armor USB 2.0 external hard drive will hold your data in the usual way, but it’s also waterproof, impactproof, dustproof and vibration-resistant. This version is aimed at those who work in difficult or extreme conditions.

In extreme conditions you want to make sure that your data is safe and secure. This model comes in several capacities from 250GB to 640GB and is compatible with Windows, OS X and Linux operating systems.

Our excitement over the eee Keyboard has grown stale after waiting so long for it, but the Cross PC U510 might be a good alternative. The Cross PC U510 packs in a 1.6GHZ Nvidia Ion, 2GB RAM, 250GB SATA hard drive, with a 5-inch TFT touchscreen embedded on the surface.

Some other features include Wi-Fi, handwriting recognition, and 3D graphics. It has to rely on external power though, having no battery. It can be connected to a normal display, HD TV, and projectors , but no support for dual displays.

Samsung has announced a new line of stylish and rugged hard drives at CES 2010. Judging by the image above, stylish means that they match your grandmother’s couch. These will come in 3 different physical sizes, 1.8”, 2.5” and 3.5”.

The drive is rugged enough to survive drops and also survive spills from liquids. The G2 portable will be boast hard drive sizes from 250GB to 640GB, while the G3 station will come in 1-2TB capacities. The G3 will even switch itself off when the computer is off and it’s not in use.

We all love the old NES cartridges. They bring back memories of hours of fun playing the old console. So we love any excuse to have them back in our lives today. Like with these NES cartridge hard drives.

Etsy seller 8-Bit Memory takes old NES cartridges, stuffs a hard drive inside and just like that Mario is holding your data. It will cost you $120 for 250GB, but he will gladly make any size for you and with any cartridge. For an extra fee of course.

Years ago, you could find some Windows PCs that had FireWire ports and if you really want a FireWire port today you can probably still find some PCI cards that will add them. For the most part the FireWire port is something that you find on Mac computers today.

Verbatim has announced a new external hard drive line called the SureFire series that sports both FireWire 800 and USB 2.0 connectivity. The drive is compatible with Mac and Windows PCs. When used with a USB port no external power adapter is needed.
