Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Android phone announced |
You sure took your time Rachel. We’ve been waiting for you. Finally you have arrived, all officially like. The Sony Ericsson XPERIA X10 Android phone is a first for the company.
It packs a 1GHz Qualcomm processor, a large 4 inch touch screen display, an 8.1 megapixel camera and of course, the Rachel interface that everyone thought was the name of the phone. The XPERIA X10 will not be available until next year though. By the time it does show up it should be one of the fastest phones on the market.

The Motorola DROID will hit Verizon on November 6th for $199 on contract. That’s after a $100 mail-in rebate. The DROID itself is the first of many Android phones coming to the carrier. There’s Android 2.0 of course, Visual Voicemail, a 3.7-inch display (854 x 480 resolution), 5 megapixel camera with dual-LED flash, a bundled 16GB memory card and a beta version of Google Maps Navigation.
I used to have a job years ago where I actually left the house and had to talk to people. I even collected a fair share of business cards, which I tended to throw away because I was too lazy to put the data into a database of any sort. If you need to collect business cards for your work, but are sick of manual entry of the data, Dymo has a new app for Windows Mobile devices for you.
Philips has unveiled two new touchscreen handsets, the X806 and the C702 which will most likely drop in China soon. The pair look pretty nice. The X806 is just 14mm thin, comes with a 3.5″ TFT display at 240 x 400 resolution, a 5-megapixel camera, Bluetooth connectivity, integrated FM radio, 47MB of internal memory and a microSD memory card slot. No 3G listed sadly.
Is it a camera or a phone? Samsung’s latest is a 3G cellphone in a 12 megapixel camera. Just as Darth Vader is more machine than man, this M8920 / SCH-W880 is more camera than phone. Certainly more camera than most 12 megapixel cameraphones are. It’s not official yet, but the announcement will come soon.
Seems like China is the land of Android lately. And here’s the LG GW880, the company’s first Android phone. To clarify, in this case “Android” means China Mobile’s custom WiFi-less OPhone platform, so we won’t be seeing this one outside of China.
RIM makes some of the hottest smartphones out there with its line of Blackberry devices. The Blackberry is popular with business users and consumers alike and is one of the best selling smartphone lines in the world.
Apparently the FCC has more information on the upcoming Alcatel Crystal A from TCT Mobile Limited. The Alcatel Crystal A has a somewhat different artistic design on the outside with several crystals thrown in for good measure.
Philips has two new phones coming soon. The K700(pictured) and the X501. The K700 sports a full touchscreen display and is part of the Xenium family. It also features a 3.2-megapixel camera. Our guess is that you can expect good battery like with other Xenium handsets.
The HTC Touch Pro2 is available on a bunch of carriers around the world but not in the US. So the announcement of Touch Pro2 on T-Mobile is good news indeed. The phone is expected to be released on August 12 but we don’t yet have any details on the price.
When it comes to smartphones the Blackberry line form RIM are among the most popular devices out there right next to the iPhone and the hoards of Android devices hitting the market. Blackberry has been busy unveiling new devices lately with the announcement of the Tour this month and now the official unveiling of the Curve 8520.
Asus makes all sorts of devices from computers to video cards and last year I got my hands on one of the firm’s first smartphones and found it lacking. Hopefully Asus has cleaned up its act now that it has teamed up with GPS leader Garmin.
