China produces knock off flip iPhone

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on November 27th, 2008

China produces knock off flip iPhoneWe’ve seen our share of knock-offs coming out of China, but this one is downright funny. They’ve taken the iPhone and turned it into a clamshell style phone. Funny thing is, it resembles a MacBook more then an actual iPhone.

It is attractive with the brushed aluminum casing and the iPhone look inside, but I’m guessing that performance isn’t up to par. Surprisingly, the camera is 3-megapixels, more than on most mid to low-end phones. It also sports a 2.6-inch display with a resolution of 240 x 320. It’s pretty small at 105 x 53 x 17mm and about 110 grams. One giveaway that this is a crap-gadget are the LED lights under the apple. I guess that’s the best they could do.

Moto Kraver Strikes the ‘Brick… And everywhere elseLast night I noticed that Joel at BoingBoing Gadgets discovered an overly in love “fan” of the Motorola Krave who had been trolling their comments for the last few weeks. The dude’s comments seemed oddly familiar. So I checked our own comments here at the ‘Brick. Guess what? He struck here too. A few times.

This brazen bandit doesn’t even wear a mask, freely admitting that he works for Motorola while simultaneously and textually stroking the Krave. Sometimes he mixes it up, but mostly it’s the same old tune, which …

Aptina LogoCamera phones are gaining megapixels all the time. The higher the megapixel resolution the larger images the phones can take and the better the image quality to some extent. However, many camera sensors on the market don’t perform well in low light situations.

A company called Aptina has announced its latest image sensor is entering mass production and is aimed at high-end 5-megapixel camera phones. The sensor is called the MT9P012 and in addition to high-resolution it promises to deliver 2x the low light performance of previous generation sensors.

LG KC560 in the works

Posted in LG by Conner Flynn on November 10th, 2008

LG KC560 in the worksThe LG KC560 resembles the LG KC550, but this time around the KC560 will focus on style and music instead. Disco by the looks of it. What makes the LG KC560 different from most other handsets? The colored LEDs at the bottom for one thing.

The colored LEDs will start to blink each time you get an incoming call, and it will also light up in time with whatever track you happen to be playing. Which, again, by the looks of it should be the Bee Gees or Abba. Or God forbid KC and the Sunshine Band. Some specs include: Tri-band GSM (900/1800/1900), GPRS/EDGE connectivity, 2.4? 262K color QVGA TFT display, 3.2 megapixel camera with LED flash, FM radio, USB and Bluetooth and microSD memory card slot. Expect to pay $300 to $350 for the LG KC560.
