Sony is updating its line of upper end “Elevated Standard” A/V receivers with three new models. The STR-DA4400ES, STR-DA3400ES and STR-DA2400ES receivers are priced at around $1,500, $1,000 and $800 respectively.

Sony said all three receivers will be available later this summer. Key features include 7.1 channel surround sound, support for advanced audio codecs like Dolby TrueHD, a new graphical user interface and auto audio calibration. OCZ Technology recently unveiled PC3-16000 4GB (2×2048MB) DDR3 kits for those needing high-performance memory. These join existing 2GB modules of similar design.

The OCZ DDR3 PC3-16000 Platinum Edition kits combine two 2GB modules for 4GB system density running at 9-9-9 latencies and a 2GHz data rate, according to OCZ. They reportedly achieve this at 1.9V.

It’s not uncommon for a laptop user to tote along an extra battery or two for those long flights, especially with the possibility of in-flight internet access coming soon. Starting January 1, 2008 the U.S. Department of Transportation will start placing restrictions on the number and size of lithium batteries that can be brought along on a U.S. flight giving you one more thing to remember before boarding a plane.

Lithium batteries are a very common type of battery used in many kinds of portable electronic devices such as digital cameras, media players and notebook computers. The new restriction will not affect batteries that are installed in their intended electronic devices, but only spare batteries that are brought along. Loose, spare batteries will no longer be allowed to be placed in checked luggage, and any spare batteries that are carried on must be in the original packaging or placed in a plastic bag to prevent contacting metal parts and the possibility of a resulting fire.

Today eMusic, who is the second largest online retailer of music behind iTunes, announced along with AT&T that they together will be providing a service to allow people to buy and download songs directly to their cellphones with no computer in between.

eMusic will be offering through the mobile service almost all of the 2.7 million songs available currently from the online service, DRM free as always, which feature only independent labels and not as many mainstream artists as rival services. They do however carry …
