Our favorite droid gets a gadget makeover yet again. When is he ever going to get some respect? If he isn’t pulling aquarium duty, he’s keeping your stuff cold. And when he isn’t acting as your own personal fridge, he’s a drink server.

Well, now someone’s taken a Lego R2 and made him into a USB drive. Which is neat and all, but he still ain’t gettin no respect. Because when you plug the little guy into your usb port, he just looks like he got shot out of a cannon and got stuck in your laptop and should be flailing his legs. Such is the life of an overly merchandised droid.

After having an early coming out party, the PSP-3000 Ratchet & Clank Entertainment Pack had it’s official launch today and the brighter PlayStation Portable is now available in North America. The bundle will cost you $199.99, while the economy black PSP-3000 kit with just a 4GB Memory Stick will be available next month. The silver pack will be available in all European countries except the UK a day later on October 15. EU countries will also have to wait for the black bundle in November.

Hard-core gamers and fans of overclocking like to spend money on quality computer components that can withstand extreme use. Buying cheap CPUs, motherboards, PSUs and RAM won’t cut it for this sort of user.

Kingston has announced a new RAM kit that is claims to be the fastest DDR3 modules available. The memory is Kingston’s HyperX DDR3 Ram running at 2GHz. Enhanced Performance Profiles are pre-programmed on the modules.

Many gadget makers are looking for unique ways to stand out while providing eco-friendly alternatives to plastic gadgets. As far as USB drives go, this one manages to be both environmentally friendly and able to stand out from the crowd. As a bonus it will hold your data.

Sony Ericsson is celebrating the Walkman phone’s third anniversary by adding three new mobiles to the family as well as a small army of new accessories. All of these products will be available by the end of the year.

The mobile phone company is specifically debuting the W302, W902 and W595 Walkman cell phones to select markets around the world. It is also rolling out wireless and regular speakers as well as wireless and noise canceling headphones. More details on all of this and more can be found after the jump.

Most of us think that our 4,8 or 16GB SD card for our digital camera is large. How would you like to have 160GB of storage space for your camera? That’s huge! Well, today Digital Foci announced Photo Safe II, which is a portable photo storage device that takes some of the burden from your laptop, Mac or PC.

It’s basically a battery operated HD. It also has a built-in card reader and automated copy function which could really come in handy. The device supports all of the popular card formats, including CF (Extreme III, IV, UDMA), MMC, SD/HC Card, miniSD, Memory Stick, MS PRO, MS Duo, MS PRO Duo, and xD-Picture card. Just insert a card and hit the copy button, the entire card will be copied at a speed 3.5 minutes per GB. I comes in 80GB and 160GB versions, which cost $139 and $189.

Some are sure to love this USB iPod memory stick, while others will hate it. Me, I’m in the middle. I mean it’s cute…But I also kind of hate it. Look at it, it’s like a squeeze toy for your computer instead of your dog. I wonder if it makes squeaky noises. Why does it have to bend? You just know it’s going to break after awhile. It comes in 1GB and 2GB sizes for about $40 and $50.

We’ve seen several versions of the PSP over the years, but until now none have been geared toward diehard Football fans. This one is for all the Madden fans, in celebration of the 20th anniversary of one of the most popular sports titles ever.

The bundle will have a limited-edition “Metallic Blue” PSP with the Madden NFL 09 game; “NFL: In Just One Play” on UMD Video; a voucher to download Beats (a new way to interact with your music collection on your PSP system. It uses a beat-tracking technology to create gameplay from any song the player supplies) from the PlayStation Store and a 1GB Memory Stick Pro Duo. So if you’re a huge Football fan, the bundle will be available on August 12 for $199.

NextoDi brought a couple of new products to the PMA show in Las Vegas this year with one of them being an upgraded media storage device with support for eSATA drives and just about every media card you can think of. Until you get your hands on a few 32GB media cards the Nexto Extreme ND2700 works well for transferring and storing data from the smaller media in your digital camera and camcorder while on the go.

The ND2700 also uses NextoDI’s X-Copy technology delivering backup speeds as fast as 40 seconds for 1GB. The USB connection makes transferring data even easier by connecting to your camera directly without having to remove the media card. A sampling of those media cards supported by the Nexto Extreme include CF, SD, SDHC, MMC and a whole array of Memory Sticks. NextoDI didn’t have any information quite yet on pricing or availability.

Sony seems to have found enough success with its mylo Internet device to have unleashed at CES this week a new generation of the product. The updated Sony mylo goes on sale this month for around $300.

The Sony COM-2 mylo communicator, as it is being called, comes in black or white body colors and has a backlit, slide out QWERTY keyboard. Like its predecessor it lets you connect to open wireless hotspots to instant message with your buddies. You can also use it to view Web videos, take pictures and post them directly to a variety of sites, use widgets to do various online functions, play games and enjoy various media formats.

Samsung brought out at CES this week to showcase an upscale version of its popular UMPC line up. This latest high performance model is known as the Samsung Q1UP-XP and Samsung says it will be available for around $1,400.

The Samsung Q1UP-XP (Q1 Ultra Premium UMPC) has a seven-inch backlit LCD with is touch sensitive and has a native resolution of 1024 x 600. It’s powered by a 1.33GHz ULV Intel Core Solo U1500 Pentium CPU and offers up to 7.5 hours of battery life. It also features a split-QWERTY keyboard, 80GB hard drive and is based on the Microsoft Windows XP Tablet Edition operating system.

Sony, the proclaimed leader in the high-definition camcorder category, rolled into CES this week with six new HD camcorder models. They offer features like 1920 x 1080 resolution recording and face detection technology. Sony says “the SR12, SR11, SR10, UX20 and UX10 models will all ship in March for about $1,400, $1,200, $1,000, $1,000 and $800, respectively. The HDR-HC9 camcorder will ship in February for about $1,100.”

The consumer electronics giant added that all these new camcorders feature a new high-profile encoding system and, depending upon the model, offer other must haves like high resolution digital still captures and hybrid/hybrid plus movie recording.

The HyperDrive4 SSD is the fastest internal HD in existence. It fits into a standard 5.25″ bay using an IDE or SATA connector. No conventional NAND flash ram here, it uses up to 8 DDR sticks at 2 gigs each.

Not impressed? To quote Yoda, “You will be.” The manufacturers claim that the HyperDrive4 can get files 8,000x faster than a 10,000 RPM HD, and serve them 125x faster. What that means is you can fully install Windows XP in about 7 minutes. It will go from boot to desktop in 2 seconds flat. There is one large drawback though, not including the $5000 price for the 16 GB version. The memory is volatile, which means in order to retain data, it has to be powered on all the time.

Buffalo has announced the release of a new flash memory stick that can hold up to an impressive 32GB of data. Your first thought might be to wonder just how long it takes to transfer 32GB of data to the drive through USB. Although it still might not be real quick Buffalo is assuring us that their TurboUSB technology will get the data onboard 20% faster than a standard USB drive.

Since the value of the data stored on a drive usually increases with the amount of data the company has added a little clip to give a little help against losing it and also has a manual “lock” switch to protect the data from being overwritten. The drive will work with just about any OS but Windows users can take advantage of software that will automate backups and provide a password-secured portion of the drive for storing private info.

Sony has announced the release of a couple of bundled PSP packs that will come in a “Deep Red” color heading for folks in Japan. One of the bundles comes with a 1GB PRO Duo memory stick and a 1Seg tuner, and the other comes with just a 32MB memory stick without the little stand and without the 1Seg. This new Deep Red PSP model will only come in these bundles and so far is only available in Japan, hitting streets on December 13th. Aside form the color there appears to be no changes to the handheld console, and also no word on pricing or the U.S. getting any of this Deep Red. One more picture after the jump.
