Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on April 27th, 2010

These new iPhone cases combine two great things: Your iPhone and Star Wars. The first one’s, which we showed you way back in November must have been a hit since these are basically the same thing, just more stylish.

The Stormtropper Half Helmet and Darth Vader Half Helmet Hard Cases for the iPhone look cooler and in general more menacing than the first ones, as it only shows half of the helmets.

The MiLi Power Skin and Pocket Pal want to up the ante a bit when it comes to thinness. The MiLi Power Skin is a case for the iPhone that is supposedly the world’s thinnest external battery for the 3G & 3GS. MiLi also has what they claim is the world’s tiniest cell phone charger with a foldable plug. It is good looking, we’ll give them that. The Mili Pocket Pal mobile phone charger also comes in 5 colors. The Pocket Pal retails for $19.95.

Did Gizmodo pay $10,000 for “lost” iPhone 4G

Posted in News by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2010

The Internet is on fire today with Gizmodo’s hands on preview of what appears to be Apple’s next-gen iPhone. In case you missed the story, someone found an iPhone in a bar in Redwood City. The device appeared to be an iPhone 3GS, but when the cover was removed, it was clear that this was no ordinary iPhone. It appeared to be Apple’s next-gen iPhone. And it looks like that is exactly what it is.

The guy who found the iPhone sent pictures of it to Engadget. Later Gizmodo actually obtained the iPhone in question, which has given Gizmodo over 2.5 million page views on that story alone. Then came word that Gizmodo had paid 10 grand for the iPhone prototype. Did they? We don’t know. Were they and Engadget in a bidding war? We don’t know.

Apple’s 4th-generation iPhone

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on April 19th, 2010

This weekend there was much drama around the fourth-generation iPhone prototype that was leaked into the world. Was it real? Was it not? And sure enough, it was real. The guys at Gizmodo got their hands on it, and examined it, erasing any doubt.

Sadly, they couldn’t get it to boot out of recovery mode, but several new features and changes are obvious. It’s thinner than the 3GS, with smaller internal components and a larger battery inside the metal frame. There’s a front-facing camera, a larger and better camera with a flash on back, a higher-res display that’s a bit smaller, a second mic for noise cancellation, and a new back that appears to be glass or ceramic.

iPhone OS 4.0 unveiled

Posted in Apple by Conner Flynn on April 8th, 2010

Just over a year after iPhone OS 3.0, Apple has unveiled the big revision of the OS that powers the iPhone, iPod touch and iPad. It ships this summer, and the developer preview will be available today. iPhone 3GS and new-gen iPod touch will get all the features, but some of those features won’t make it to the iPhone 3G, the original iPhone, and older iPod touches. Sorry Charlie.

The biggest new feature is the multitasking, which is said to be the “best” implementation in the smartphone space. App switching is activated by double tapping the home button, which pulls up a “dock” of currently running apps, and apparently it can do this without hurting battery life or performance for the front app.

Apple now offering iPhones contract free

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on March 22nd, 2010

The rumor was that Apple was due to begin selling a contract-free version of the iPhone soon “at list price.” It’s true, you can now pick one up for $499 (3G), $599, or $699 (3GS). They are still sadly locked to AT&T, like a pretty girl chained to Jabba The Hutt, but whatever. Technicalities.

We all know it takes like two seconds to jailbreak an iPhone. The assumption here is that you will do so I guess. The Apple store will be selling them at one unit per person per day.

iPad Pre-Order numbers

Posted in iPad by Conner Flynn on March 13th, 2010

Apple iPad PreSale starting todayAccording to Forbes, Apple was selling pre-orders for the iPad at a rate of about 25,000 an hour yesterday morning. The numbers aren’t exact at this point and very unscientific. It’s based on differences between the order numbers assigned to early buyers. Not official Apple numbers.

But if it is accurate, here’s how it compares to some initial figures during the debut of the iPhone and iPhone 3G S. There were no pre-orders for the first iPhone, but roughly 200,000 phones were sold in stores on the first day that the phone was available. With the iPhone 3GS there were reportedly “hundreds of thousands” of pre-orders.

I have used an iPhone for the last few years and I really like the thing. I don’t like having to charge the iPhone with the normal charge cable though. I have been using a WildCharge wireless system, but the case used with the charger isn’t the best.

Case-mate has announced that it is now shipping its new Hug wireless charge system for the iPhone 3G and 3GS. The Hug system includes the wireless charge base, hard case, and a screen protector. The case goes all around the iPhone and is made from injection molded materials.

Pong anti-radiation cellphone case

Posted in Mobile Accessories by Conner Flynn on February 10th, 2010

From the fine folks at Pong Research(They haven’t done much since testing Pong consoles in the late seventies apparently) come these anti-radiation cases for the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and Blackberry Curve… Despite the fact that radiation from cellphones has not yet been proven to harm people.

The Pong anti-radiation cases are mostly made of silicone, with a “Pong gold PCB module” embedded in the case. Apparently the module has been proven to reduce the radiation from an iPhone into a user’s head to “a third of what it would be without the case.”

Louis Vuitton Asus Eee PC

Posted in Netbook by Conner Flynn on January 28th, 2010

Nothing says gaudy like slapping an overpriced brand on your Asus Eee PC. That’s just what has happened here with this netbook for fashionistas who love to throw money away. This Asus Eee PC 1101HA has had its exterior covered in leather that bears the famous Louis Vuitton pattern.

It was specially commissioned by a saddler, and aside from the exterior, everything else remains the same. It’s no iPhone Supreme and at least it isn’t covered in Swarovski crystals. You just have to wonder about some peoples taste.
