Photos claim to show Apple’s lighter, cheaper iPhone 4 prototype

Posted in iPhone by Reuben Drake on July 28th, 2011

Looks like there has been some potential photo leaks of what is claimed to be the prototype device of a cheaper and lighter iPhone 4. This would replace the iPhone 3GS as Apple’s entry level iPhone. Yes, it looks just like an iPhone 4, except for the identification numbers on the back being X’d out, which could indicate that it is a prototype device.

The source of the leak admitted that it would be hard to convince people that this is the real deal since it looks so similar to the iPhone 4.

Last Year’s iPhone Still Selling Well

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on July 25th, 2011

We already could have guessed as much, but last years iPhone continues to sell well, as recent numbers from carrier partners AT&T and Verizon show. Reporting earnings for its June quarter last Thursday, AT&T said it sold 3.6 million iPhones, which is more than the 3.2 million it sold during same period last year.

Verizon has sold 2.3 million in its second quarter. Together, the two carriers activated 11.7 million in the first half of 2011, that’s just 3.5 million under AT&T’s total iPhone sales for all of 2010. Remember this is a phone that’s been available for about a year already.

Bubo camcorder rig for iPhone4 video

Posted in iPhone Accessories by Conner Flynn on April 13th, 2011

This is far from the first optical add-on for the iPhone, but the OWLE Bubo focuses on giving the smartphone’s video capture abilities a boost. The Bubo is a hand-held video rig made from aluminum. The handgrips help keep the iPhone steady while the weight, at just over a pound, helps with stability during pans. There are also four tripod mounts and access to the dock connector and headphone jack.

The 0.45x wide-angle/macro combination lens doubles the iPhone’s field of view and adds contrast and extra detail. The rig will accept any 3rd party lenses (37mm) and filters (49mm) and the macro lens allows for close shooting.

Motorola XOOM and ATRIX 4G sales are ‘disappointing’

Posted in Motorola by Conner Flynn on April 5th, 2011

We didn’t need an analyst to clue us in on poor sales of Motorola’s key products, but that is exactly what we have today. Pacific Crest analyst James Faucette revised his full-year 2011 revenue estimates down from $13.7 billion to $12.25 billion. He also revised his 2012 revenue estimates down from $15.34 billion to $13.62 billion. Ouch!

He says that overall sell-through trends for the Xoom and Atrix have been disappointing and he believes the Atrix’s lower-than-forecast sales are a result of the $49 iPhone 3GS and the HTC Inspire, which makes perfect sense. What is Motorola going to do now? Hopefully they price their products better to start.

Apple now selling iPhone 3GS for $49

Posted in iPhone by Conner Flynn on January 10th, 2011

Here’s some good news from Apple. Apple has now dropped the price of the last generation iPhone, the iPhone 3GS to $49 with a new two year mobile contract. This goes along with the recent price drop from AT&T on the iPhone 3GS and comes just as we are expecting Verizon Wireless to announce the Verizon iPhone, so this is AT&T’s chance to lock customers into a new two year contract before Verizon starts selling the iPhone.

We aren’t sure if Verizon will be selling a version of the 3GS as well as the iPhone 4, but we suspect that it will just be the iPhone 4 and we won’t see another iPhone available on the network until Apple launches the next iPhone.
