New Amazon Kindle sold out until September

Posted in kindle by Conner Flynn on August 2nd, 2010

Well, that didn’t take long. Amazon only announced the third generation Kindle last week, and started selling it, now it seems that this new lower priced Kindle has been extremely popular as it is now sold out until September. Both the WiFi and 3G models of the new Amazon Kindle are ‘temporarily sold out’ and new orders may not ship until the 4th of September 2010.

Obviously the big draw is the new price. The WiFi only model retails for $139 and a 3G model retails for $189 and the new Kindle is thinner and lighter than the previous model.

Windows 7 wasn’t exactly meant for tablet devices, but we are seeing it on tablets more often. Now Pegatron has their new MasterPad prototype tablet, measuring just 14mm thin with an 11.6″ IPS (In Plane Switching) display, running at 1,366 x 768 widescreen resolution.

Some other specifications include a 1.3-megapixel webcam with a microphone, USB ports, a memory card reader, an accelerometer, a mini-HDMI port, 3G and 32GB or 64GB SSD options. The body is magnesium and aluminum alloy. The 2-cell battery is a bit disappointing but hopefully the final product will better.

Sprint prepping iPod touch case with Wi-Fi hotspot?

Posted in Sprint by Conner Flynn on July 29th, 2010

Check this out. An FCC filing has signaled a unique Sprint plan to capture Apple device users. A ZTE device called the Peel would serve as an iPod touch case but would hold a full 3G-to-Wi-Fi mobile hotspot in its back. This would give the iPod and other nearby devices, an always-on 3G connection without needing a separate MiFi.

The Peel’s capabilities aren’t fully known, but it would obviously have its own battery; there’s no Dock Connector or similar attachment to whatever device it would hold. A mini USB port on one side will let owners charge from a computer or the wall power adapter.

Is this the T-Mobile myTouch 3G HD?

Posted in T-Mobile by Conner Flynn on July 28th, 2010

We don’t have any confirmation as to whether or not this device is a legitimate leak or not, but it has been dubbed the T-Mobile myTouch 3G HD. Speculation is that it could be an upcoming HSPA+ phone from T-Mobile.

Details are few and far between at the moment, but it does look like the silhouette of the phone that was leaked in the T-Mobile HSPA+ teaser page. That’s definitely a large touchscreen, and the Genius button introduced on the myTouch 3G Slide is back, alongside physical home, menu and back buttons.

LG can’t meet demand for iPhone and iPad screens from Apple

Posted in Apple by Shane McGlaun on July 23rd, 2010

I think that anyone who has tried to buy a new Apple product like the iPad or iPhone on launch day and the days and weeks thereafter knows that shortages are common. The main reason for shortages of Apple products like these is that Apple can’t get enough screens.

LG Display builds the screens for many of the Apple products including the iPad and iPhone. LG has stated that it will not be able to meet the demand that Apple has for screens.
