Posted in Samsung by Conner Flynn on September 28th, 2009

Samsung SCH-W880 12 megapixel phonecameraIs it a camera or a phone? Samsung’s latest is a 3G cellphone in a 12 megapixel camera. Just as Darth Vader is more machine than man, this M8920 / SCH-W880 is more camera than phone. Certainly more camera than most 12 megapixel cameraphones are. It’s not official yet, but the announcement will come soon.

The most interesting aspects of this one are the extending 3x optical zoom and the dedicated camera controls like a mode dial, shutter and zoom, along with a 3.3-inch WVGA AMOLED display. Some other specs are HD (720p?) video, HSDPA data, WiFi, GPS, Bluetooth, microSD slot, and DMB mobile television.

To that end, the Environmental Working Group has launched a website that rates cellphones on radiation output.

Here are the highlights: Ranking high on the list (in other words these phones put out the lowest levels of radiation) are the Motorola RAZR V8, and AT&T’s Samsung Impression. In fact, Samsung holds several spots at the top of the list. On the other end of the spectrum, some phones that rated poorly are T-Mobile’s myTouch 3G and the Blackberry Curve 8830.
