ArcherMind unveils Android-based Car Navigation System |
ArcherMind has just unveiled the result of their collaboration with Chinese hardware makers, the first in-car navigation system based on Google’s Android operating system. Embedded with an ARM core processor, the system was shown off at the Embedded Technology 2009 event in Japan.
It’s exciting because we’re talking Android, but some other features include an 800 x 480 resolution 7-inch screen, a navigation system that allows you to surf the web, write and receive SMSs and to play audio books. Using 3G Wi-Fi and Bluetooth the system also features a hard disk drive, and an SD card slot for storage.


Pantech and AT&T have announced that the cool Pantech Impact feature phone has hit the AT&T wireless network. The handset is available in blue and pink colors and has a new form factor for the AT&T line.
Asus announced yesterday that it would be adding NVIDA Ion graphics to several of its Eee computers in different lines. One of the machines getting the Ion power was the Eee 1201N netbook. Today Asus has unveiled the full specs for the 1201N and it should be a great little netbook.

The device is available in white or black and the compact battery pack will deliver an 800mAh lithium-ion battery, good for up to 45 additional hours of iPod nano audio playback or 3-hours of 3G talk time on the iPhone 3G or 3GS.

T-Mobile is shipping the webConnect Jet modem and the T-Mobile Tap handset. The webConnect Jet modem will allow you to hook up to T-Mobile’s 3G network and offers access to T-Mobile’s Wi-Fi hotspots when you need it. It can also be used as a flash drive thanks to a handy microSD memory card slot. The Jet USB modem comes with a $30 monthly plan that maxes out at 200MB data. On the other hand, a $50 monthly plan has 5GB worth of data. It will also roam globally on quad-band GSM/EDGE and handles dual-band UMTS/HSDPA access.
The mobile phone industry is hurting except for the high-end smartphone and feature phone segments. These more expensive devices are selling and smartphones are actually growing in popularity. The latest numbers for the mobile phone market are in and Apple is tops when it comes to profits.
SSDs are slowly starting to replace the traditional HDD in computers and notebooks. The SSD is faster and uses less power to operate making for longer battery life on notebooks. The catch is that the typical SSD is still too expensive for most computer users. OCZ makes a line of lower cost SSDs and has announced that it has a new family of SSDs coming to market using SandForce SSD processors.
